Lavell Crawford is the comedian who plays Huell Babineaux on BB and BCS. In BB he weighed 475 pounds. After the show ended, he decided to commit to his health and lost 220 pounds. He now weighs 255 pounds. When they approached him to reprise his character from BB in BCS they wanted him to wear a fat suit and fat makeup but he refused, so they went ahead without it. Congrats on him for achieving such a monumental weight loss.

I don’t see why they wanted him to wear a fat suit… this is a show where everyone is supposed to be their younger selves so honestly Huell being slimmer is the most selling out of all the characters that this show takes before not after BB

Love that small moment where Kim asks Howard about his opinion of Jimmy at the time he was in the mailroom. He considers the question, and decides to answer honestly, and his respect for Jimmy really comes through. He’s not on Jimmy’s side or anything, but he doesn’t hate him the same way Chuck does. Such a great moment for Howard’s character in my opinion. Beneath the robotic and uptight exterior he has a lot of heart deep down.

Ah interesting, all the times I've seen this episode, I don't think I ever quite thought about what Aaron brought up in the discussion about the flashback in the beginning. That in that instance, because it was for his own benefit, Chuck totally wanted Jimmy to do what he otherwise hates, which is tricking and lying to people. I get that Chuck specifically hates it when Jimmy does it to mess around with the law in particular, but still, it's pretty interesting that yes, Chuck basically wanted Slippin' Jimmy in that moment.

Howard was never concerned with nepotism. It was never him who blocked Jimmy, he knows he's there himself largely due to his father, it was just Chuck who really blocked Jimmy. I don't see it as any kind of slight or gotcha moment, because Howard never would've cared if it looked that way, everyone knows his dad built the firm with Chuck, it's in the name of the firm. I think one of the understated elements of this episode is that Jimmy's gamble worked not because Chuck couldn't predict what Jimmy would do but because he couldn't face the truth about his own condition. Chuck has been shown to be able to pretty adeptly take apart Jimmy's plots. He assumed that Jimmy's move would be to have a phone without a battery in his pocket because that would be Jimmy's move if Chucks condition was REAL. He would have to trick the panel into thinking Chuck was faking. But because Jimmy putting the battery in Chuck's pocket was contingent on the condition being psychosomatic, Chuck could not imagine it actually working and therefore didn't predict that it would be what Jimmy would do.
@xxpaygexx
@xxpaygexx 2 года назад
What happened this episode was basically an arbitration. It's a civil case where both parties agree to abide by a decision made by a panel of judges. The rules are far less strict so they can produce results far faster at the cost of being unable to appeal because it's not technically a court case. This is in Chuck's best interest as he wants to reach a speedy agreement that won't get Jimmy in trouble per se, but will force him to step down as a lawyer. He also didn't have to go through any rules of evidence to get the tape played, but Jimmy was equally able to present the pictures of Chuck's house. Also Jimmy pulling the stunt with the battery probably would've gotten him thrown out of court. And to take it a step further Kim probably wouldn't have been allowed to represent Jimmy in the first place because of her proximity to the case(remember he said her name directly on the tape). Ultimately, what Chuck saw as a slam dunk also gave Jimmy enough wiggle room to do what he does best.
@Lazypackmule
@Lazypackmule 2 года назад
The show is really just at it's best when it plays with the concept of lawyering outside of the context of the strict legalities of the courtroom, such as Jimmy pleading the case of the skater kids to Tuco, or Kim arguing a case with another character later on (no explanation required)

You're correct about it not being a court case, however it also wasn't an arbitration. It was simply a hearing before a disciplinary commission of the state bar association, not an arbitral suit. Jimmy and the state bar are the two parties in the procedure from a legal perspective, Chuck is merely a witness.

@@justinarmetta3367 riiiiight, and Jimmy sabotaging that old lady's relationship, was that Chuck's doing as well? I guess him sabotaging his job at Davis & Main was also Chuck's fault. It's Charles McGill not Charles Xavier. Saul has never once pointed at Chuck as a reason for his downfall and neither should we.

@@BhBc8f8 Jimmy obviously has issues, but he was trying to change. Chuck likes to compare Jimmy to an alcoholic, and that's pretty accurate. The situation in the show is like if Jimmy was trying to quit drinking but the person he looked up to kept telling him he'll never change. It's not fair to blame Chuck entirely for the way Jimmy is, but he definitely contributed to the downward spiral quite a bit.

one of my favorite shots in this episode is right at the end after Chuck asks if there are any more questions and the look on Jimmy's face shows that he feels awful about what he just did. as much as Chuck has put Jimmy through, Jimmy still cares about his brother and you can tell that he wishes he could have done it any other way. Bob Odenkirk is a phenomenal actor, as is Michael Mckean. top tier episode of BCS.

@BhBc8f8
@BhBc8f8 2 года назад
@@the_nikster1 I never said it did. You said Chuck wasn't a good brother, I'm saying if he was really as bad of a brother as you make it out to be then Jimmy would've been convicted as a felon and registered as a sex offender, period. And their deal afterwards was "If i do this, do not make a fool out of me". We see that Chuck lived up to his bargain and got him out, but Jimmy clearly didn't and straight up humiliated him in front of his woman, friends and colleagues. Also didn't we see them singing and camping together in the flashbacks, how does that equal "a lifetime of hatred and neglect."? Personally tho I just can't stand behind purposefully using someone's mental health against them even if it was in a time where society didn't know much about mental illness. It's still pretty low and cowardly but I guess it's good foreshadowing that there is no line Saul won't cross to get what he wants.

It's perfectly normal and reasonable to rehearse your testimony specifically to avoid Perry Mason and Chicanery moments. The show plays with that in the same way Jimmy plays the council. You know that Chuck is right, mostly, but everything up to this has been showing resentment towards Jimmy so it comes off as insincere. Chuck is first and foremost, a good lawyer. And a good lawyer prepares.

The dynamic between these 2 brothers is so intense and complex, I love it. This scene in particular always gets me pumped, even though I know Jimmy isn't always on the right, in this case Chuck totally brought it on himself. Chuck's breakdown also is very similar to Jimmy's, in the episode after Jimmy found out about the tape. It's so crazy that they keep going back and forth, one upping each other and that leaves the viewer always on the edge. From one side I know Jimmy's wrong, but from the other side we know that Chuck can be a bit of a prick. I think in the end, both want what they can't have. Jimmy always longed for his brother respect but never get it, and Chuck wanted the law to be preserved and ethical, and he never got it either. Their relationship is a great concept to be discussed in a show about law, because there is no wrong or right in this situation imo, they're both wrong and right in their own terms. Two brothers fighting for their best interest, it's all a grey area in this, unless you're a "moral knight" who thinks Chuck is always right.
