He wasn't always Saul Goodman, ace attorney for chemist-turned-meth dealer Walter White. Six years before he begins to represent Albuquerque's most notorious criminal, Goodman is Jimmy McGill, a small-time attorney hustling to make a name for himself. He's a forceful champion for his low-income clients, an underdog whose morals and ambitions often clash. Jimmy works with private eye Mike Ehrmantraut, a former Philadelphia cop and recent transplant to the Southwest. Mike has a specialized skill set -- he's a "fixer" of sticky situations -- that Jimmy soon learns to appreciate.
Better Call Saul stars Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill / Saul Goodman, Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut, Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler, Patrick Fabian as Howard Hamlin, Michael Mando as Nacho Varga, Michael McKean as Chuck McGill, Giancarlo Esposito as Gus Fring, Tony Dalton as Lalo Salamanca, Kerry Condon as Stacey Ehrmantraut, Peter Diseth as Bill Oakley, Dennis Boutsikaris as Rich Schweikart, Mark Proksch as Daniel "Pryce" Wormald, Brandon K. It’s even MORE than that though, which is insane. Jimmy/Saul/Gene was facing a life sentence and 180/190 (I can’t remember the exact number) years for all of his crimes! But he knew the prosecution’s biggest fear - his charm being able to convince at least one juror, causing the jury to become deadlocked and causing a mistrial. The prosecution didn’t want this to happen, because they wanted to put this awful criminal away for all of his crimes, so they were willing to take a deal. It’s honestly incredible, thinking about what Chuck felt about Jimmy - “you’re not a real lawyer”. At the end of the day, Jimmy was able to do something that Chuck never could - negotiating a life sentence + 190 years down to 7.5 years. Jimmy truly was one of the best lawyers to be seen, even if he got his degree from some “University of American Samoa”. This show is literally incredible!

I couldn't agree more. The fact that they made it in such a dry way with no crazy sound in the background or with no build up at all makes it horrendously great. You are just left there feeling kind of bad for Howard, having to deal with his stained image and with his depression, and you have no idea that the suffering of that man is just about to end, perhaps good for him but definitely terrifying for the spectator. Such a great scene though, directed with the perfection of the whole series and of Breaking Bad.

One thing I see a lot of people say that I cant help but disagree with is that he absolves kim of her involvement in Howards death. My interpretation was that he hears she confesses and then realizes what he has to do, so he tells the government she was more involved in the death than reality so it compels her to come to the court room, then he says what he told them was just bullshit to get her there but everything she confessed to still exists. She is still open to a civil suit and she still gave her confession of being involved and she without a doubt had a hand in it. Jimmy just acknowledged that she left and tried to better herself and that he couldnt.

I took it as him unburdening himself/setting himself free and simultaneously taking away part of Kim's emotional burden and showing her that Jimmy was still in there, since there was absolutely no sign of him the last time she saw him. Jimmy went to the insurance company to try and get a refund on his malpractice insurance. The employee there brought up Chuck McGill and that's what gave Jimmy the idea to say something about Chuck's mental capacity at that time. Jimmy did not go to the insurance company to snitch on Chuck. He got the idea after he was already there when the employee was searching for the policy and found Chuck's name before Jimmy's.

@alexandramckeown6826
@alexandramckeown6826 Год назад
This video doesn't at all get into the flashback scenes that set up the fact that Jimmy was, at least partially, responsible for their father's shop going out of business, something that led to his death. Remember that Chuck doesn't just accuse Jimmy of stealing from the register- he actually did it, and we have no reason to believe just once. That's not to say that Jimmy was morally culpable at that point- he was a child, still developing his own sense of right and wrong. But Jimmy pretty consistently worked as a petty criminal UNTIL he became a lawyer. Was Chuck right to continue holding a grudge? Obviously not. But Chuck wasn't simply and wholly awful. He acted awfully to his brother, but there's real emotional pain and setup for the why. And it's not as if Jimmy was good to him, either- not all the time. Because let's not forget- Jimmy looked after Chuck, yes, but Chuck, before that point, had also been looking after Jimmy for years by representing him when he got into trouble. Family is complicated. Their relationship was broken beyond repair.
@zkme2734
@zkme2734 Год назад
Because he was, as Kim put it, a sick man who was consumed by envy and resentment over his charismatic brother. Even though Chucks last words with Jimmy were absolutely awful, you just know he sabotaged himself by breaking the only meaningful relationship he had left. Jimmy doesn't absolve Kim! So many people seem to get this wrong. She confessed, she's still under threat of a civil suit. "You don't save me, I save me!". Jimmy's sentence *might* persuade Cheryl to feel justice is done, but it might not. The point was that Kim confessing gave Jimmy the courage to do the same, knowing that doing so he would regain Kim's respect/love. Ultimately, he did it to save himself.

@@mrspikiespike4807 For the sake of a last ditch epilogue hypothetical: What if Jesse teams up with Kim to publish a recording of his witness of the killing of hank & steve to the court, thus proving that was not on Jimmy even indirectly (that is, if many years of his sentence is solely because of the murder of Steven & Hank) Maybe Jimmy then could get a reasonable time reduced to his sentence, combined with good behaviour, and then live out approx. a decade left of his life with Kim.

I have never seen Breaking Bad, but there's this potent... something about this Better Call Saul series that has me very intrigued. It appears to be all quality, and made with love and skill. I may just have to check out the adventures of Slippin Jimmy.

Also, Jimmy didn’t get Kim exonerated. It’s kinda hard to follow, but Peter said that when Jimmy found out that Kim had confessed, he lied to prosecutors and said she was more involved in Howard’s death, because he wanted her to show up at his sentencing hearing. At the hearing, he recanted his lies about her involvement. But he couldn’t do anything about her confession, or make it less likely that Cheryl Hamlin would sue her.
