Fender now makes real cunife wide range pickups again. They are really nice, but expensive. Yours are really great sounding. You brought that guitar alive.

Many thanks for the great work! Personally, I was much, much lazier and extended my Squier humbucker range without winding the coil. I simply replaced the standard ceramic magnets with AlNiCo 5. It was the easiest way to get enough glass from the 2-wire pickups.😔

Couldn't the pole pieces be replaced, too, without the rewind? I'm not sure what the purpose of rewinding is -- but I've never modified an actual pickup.

Oh and if you haven’t done one, Lipsticks…. If you haven’t heard him, steve kimock is a tone master, he has a 70’s era strat i believe that he routed out to use like the full size lipsticks, when this strat (and also most likely his dumble doesn’t hurt) is picked up during a show, it 100% of the time brings a tear to my eye…. i just recently put one together with a $200 Tagima strat that’s orange sparkle and dark dark “technical wood” neck, black pickguard with the 70’s knobs from my CV tele custom and gold super tubes from gfs. The bridge is a little too hot, so i was thinking of getting a second middle one to put in its spot. Thanks again Dylan!

I put Lollar $$$ WIde Range pickups in a China built Fender STARcaster from 2013. That's "StarCaster". It's a look alike China built Simi Hollow Body COPY the the 1970's American Built Fender Starcaster. I swaped out all hardware from Tunners to Strap Ties. I even added a Master Valume Pot to make my guitar just like the real 1970 unit. Would love to have you hear and see it one day.

Another great video Dlyan. I was wondering about those pickup's tone. Fender kind of lies a lot about their budget line pickups. Example: their so called Jazzmaster pickups on a Squier are a Jazzmaster wound coil with a P90 magnet and adjustable rods. I call them a J90. Have a good one.

The thing a lot of people don't know is that it's still fairly easy to put literally any uncovered humbuckers in that guitar, you just need to put it onto the existing base plate and then solder the cover on and soak it in wax so it doesn't feedback.

oh so right on about the lollar’s, a while ago i grabbed a CV 70’s custom and put a Lollar Regal Low Wind in the neck and the Lollar Special T in the bridge, holy cow! That Regal is one of the best sounding things EVER….I’ve have had several builds and that Squire CuNiFart has been sitting in my pickup drawer since I bought the guitar. What a great idea Dylan, im filling the form out now and sending it in….

I have the same one in natural finish. Got it used at a pawn shop. While it looks pretty, overall, it's a very functional guitar at best. Playability is good, but the lack of tonal options make it feel cheap. The bridge pickup is disappointing. I mainly use neck or middle.

Excellent content Dylan! I'm looking at getting a Tele with at least one humbucker but the whole wide ranging discussion has me a bit confused as to their sound. I'd be ok with a neck humbucker that is similar to the '57 Classic from Gibson or something like that. I just want a Tele with pickups that are not of the standard variety. I'm putting together a Partscaster with '54 Klein pickups so doing anything traditional with the newer Tele would not make much sense. So, to hear your discussion of the Squier version of the wide ranging pups is very interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

There's this girl in my jazz program (a freshman) who brought in a squier telecaster custom for practice which normally she plays woodwind or brass I don't remember. The freshman who knew nothing about guitar thought it sounded dope and even a very experienced sophomore guitarist loved the sound but I HATED IT. I don't like most humbuckers in general and I was kinda sad that I hated it because I kept hearing people say how much clarity there was to these Pickups and I heard it and I thought it was awful. It was so muddy that I couldn't even really hear any notes. It was just like different pitched bass boosted sounds. For a while I thought that's how it was but then I heard a few people demoing it on yt and I loved it. When I finally found your video, I wa beyond shocked, I was horrified. Squier is a fantastic company but holy hell, what was fender thinking when they made these pickups. It doesn't even sound like the same guitar. I just wanna thank you for truly making realize that it really is that good of a humbucker and that this is my favourite humbucker in the world

I actually compared this guitar to a another thinline with Lollars Regals and my guitar didn’t sound much different. It makes me wonder if my Squier has a real WRHB??? I even compared my guitar to a Gibson sg custom with custom shop hbs and the guy at the guitar shop said my thinline had so much more pop are clarity and really shined above the sg custom.

Hey Dylan love this channel always answers good questions and sometimes questions get answered just as I think'em. Why I'm commenting because I just stumble on a Squier Tele Deluxe an found black an white wires from each of the wide range faker pup's just heat shrinked together and the other two leads from each pup's terminated correctly the Tele works fine. But does that mean I can upgrade to pull/push nobs? (Total 4 wires from each faker pup's) Thank You for your channel 👏👏👏

Hi Dylan, You didn't explain the magnet swap. Do you use very different magnets? Also, have you ever tried replacing the screws and pole-pieces of a regular bucker with Alnico 5? That seems like it would get you closer to the structure of a CuNiFe Wide-range bucker. When I've done that, I've used a soldering iron on the slugs until they melt the the plastic enough to push the pole pieces through. (Others reading this: Be aware that you can screw that up, so don't try it on a bucker that you like)

Since you've had the Squiers apart, I hope you can answer a question. Are the pole pieces supposed to be threaded? I just got a 2001 Indo made Squier 70's custom Tele with the Wide Range Pickup and found out the hard way that the pole pieces seen from the top of the pickup cover are not threaded. You have to push them from the top to lower, and remove pickguard and push from bottom to raise...

Thank you for the video Dylan. I’m a bit late with this video, but I actually really like my reissue wide range humbuckers on my 2018 MIM ‘72 Deluxe Thinline Tele. They sound a lot like the humbuckers from after you modded yours, like a tele but bigger and more controlled under a bit of gain. I believe they are stock, but got the guitar 2nd hand in 2020, so they could have been modded. I’ve been looking to find something online about whether the stock ones are just humbuckers (as you’ve described in a few of your videos), or if the pole pieces are magnetised in some models (not to mod them either way, but to be able to replicate the sound I like if I get new pickups in another guitar). I know I could just take the pick guard off, but I’m a bit precious about not changing anything when I have it set up just how I like it 😂 Do you know if Fender do the magnetised pole pieces pickups in any of their models with reissue wide range humbuckers?
