The mod has been fixed and re-released for the latest MCC version! It's available at the Nexus Mods page and now has a version with the vanilla helmet HUD!
@@illuminoeye_gaming I get you. I think it's the delay we feel with the camera changing to 3rd person and back. It's like we the player are paused for a moment while the game moves our character where as in first person it still feels like we are in control and it's smoother
@@illuminoeye_gaming lol. It's not supposed to send you across the entire room. it's for evasive maneuvers.... hence the video where he evades and counters the hunters......durrr
@@SeniorCharry they weren't really annoying to fight imo. As long as you clear everything else, I would then take on the Knights with melee to save ammo, unless they have scattershots
I never realised how bad the lighting was because of the lens flare, it looks a lot like halo 2 anniversary without all the effects! Edit : thanks for all the likes lmao
I havent tried it with Halo 4, but have with reach, CE, and halo 2 on MCC - Theres a reshade shader by MartyMcfly/PascalGlitcher that attempts to simulate raytracing and honestly, does a decent Job. The shader itself is his RTGI shader and you need to donate about $5 to get access to whatever version comes out that month on his patreon Edit: meant to say could be a good combination with the reflow mode, lmao
@@praetor4118 game to game it seems to take a bit of tweaking, the discord folk are usually a good help. I know I had the same issue at first but I can't remember how to fix it, I'd say for one check you've got the right depth buffer selected but that's all I can think of atm
How? Being able to flip tanks, hearing his voice and punching holes in the skulls of grunts wasn't enough of an indicator for you? It just made the screen cramped
I just want to say, thank you so much for creating an awesome in-depth look at the mod. The presentation of the video overall was just great. This year has been so chaotic and I haven't been able to work on anything, so seeing people enjoy what I actually was able to finish is fantastic. Unfortunately, I just read that the latest update broke it, which usually for MCC mods means they have to be recreated, but I should be able to get back working on it soon. I noticed lots of people saying the dialogue shouldn't have been removed, but as I've replied to other commenters: Nothing important was removed. I know that's subjective but I left pretty much all of the character developing and world building dialogue. I removed a few lines from Chief in the cutscenes to emphasize the emotions of the scenes and Chief's body language. Silence can work better in certain circumstances. Trust me, I love the direction they went with more development between Chief and Cortana, and I didn't want to get rid of that. I do know the Banshee IS supposed to be louder, but the retail sound effect is godawful and distracting. The CE Banshee sound was best. If I can ever figure out how to replace sounds, the Banshee sound and Grunt voices are the first things I'm changing! Creating different options such as turning visor on and off or other personalizations is near impossible for a single person to accomplish with this big of a mod. Every single change in this mod requires changing one or more values in EVERY level, which is a nightmare to keep track of and keep synced. Thanks again to you and everyone who's checked out the mod and given it some of their time. It's awesome to see it has been a positive effort.
Thank you for all of the awesome work, D3adconnection! A mod like this will never be disregarded. I look forward to the mod being up and going again despite the updates hindering it from being playable. In any case, we've really enjoyed all of the work you have put in to this during your spare time. Since Halo 4 isn't particularly favored, it's not likely to find mods for it, but you've taken the time to do so, therefore, thank you for your commitment. Let us know if you need any support. We will be here to cheer you on!
Now that you mention replacing grunt sounds, yeah in vanilla they do sound weird. It's like all of them got something shoved up their noses. (assuming they have noses)
the bloom removal alone makes this godly. God I hated the bloom in Halo 4 on day one but I just didn't know what the hell it was called at the time. All I knew was that I couldn't see shit
I love Halo 4 this is great. Also Micheal Bay isn't the Lens-Flare guy, That's JJ Abrams you're thinking of. Is there a version that leaves the dialogue in though, that's an awful change and kills the point of Halo 4 and the character building that was such a strong point.

It's hilarious that there is the level of bloom/glare in the original h4 when Spartan's visors are made to diminish all of that in the first place. I mean, a pair of cheap sunglasses can do a better job.
Finished the vanilla game and started a playthrough with this reflow. So much better, everything is balanced. Dying is easy only if you make mistakes, like in CE. This mod is just beautiful, it elevated Halo 4 to classic halo standard.
I always think that while H4 still is a good Halo game, it definitely had potential to be much better, I have my own vision of how Halo 4 should have look, sound, and play, and while this mod doesn’t achieve all that, I think the potential to have a Definitive version of H4 is now more posible than ever, one day...
I wish the modder kept the visor elements in the campaign, I think it helped distinguish the Spartan you played in the campaign and the Spartan you played in Multiplayer.
Most definitely, one major factor in 4 and 5:G as well that I haven't seen to many Halo RU-vidrs speak on is how the Covenant needs a major overhaul; story, gameplay, and visually. If M'dama's Covenant got the same treatment as the Banished did I think they would be much more liked.
@@nobudarsai9675 lol then you haven't looked it up enough because plenty of "halo youtubers" have spoke about how they feel about the Covenant in 4 and 5
Your videos are so great, and not just because there isn't a heap of halo mod reviews going around, your script and presentation are genuinely fantastic.
@@KYOTRU-vid I was already aware about the existence of this mod , I just wanted a good RU-vidr to cover it up and spread it to more audience thank god u did it
Wow this mod really does make halo 4's graphics pretty beautiful, it looks quite like halo reach now in my opinion and the gameplay changes seem good and worthwhile. I'm gonna check this out, thanks!
I love the sprinting with the hardlight shield mod. It fits Halo so well. As much as I love Halo 4, I never noticed how clunky a lot of the mechanics were. It has been a couple years since I've really sat and played it.
Oh I am SO using that Hardlight shield sprint I got so excited when I saw that because I always thought the shield was sorta useless cause you could always just sprint to cover (except for when I couldn’t sprint to cover but I had always just replaced the shield cause I didn’t need it at the time) but now I can sprint with the shield and run up to an enemy and melee them whilst my shields are down which seems like so much fun when you combine it with the black eye skull
There's Halo CE Banshee sounds and then there are Halo 4 Banshee sounds. Just because a guitar can make beautiful noises, doesn't mean you should scrape the strings with your pick and act like it sounds great.
@@null643 This, imo I'm interested but the removal of the Chief's helmet interior on the screen kills the mod for me, Halo 4 wasn't great but the visible visor outlines made it feel more immersive imo
Can anyone actually tell me what lines were taken out? If you're all upset about it even though it's stated in this video some were taken out....meaning not all, then what lines were there. Or u just complaining to complain?
@@perseusmandate4052 Taking out *any* of the lines is just stupid, as the voice acting and writing is really done well in Halo 4. It doesn't matter what specifically was taken out, none of it was ever excessive and I rather liked all of the interactions the characters had together.
This mod is basically Halo 4's gameplay, exept the strengths of it get improved even more to eliminate the weaknesses, and all that while reducing halo 4's extreme visual bloom. I wished I had H4 PC just to play this version of the game!
I think it's only $10 per game on the MCC PC collection. You can basically buy each of them as if they were DLC. If you've got a PC to play them on, that is.
The change for the thruster pack from 3rd person to 1st person effectively turns it into Halo Reach's Evade, my favorite armor ability. Additionally, the changes applied to the Prometheans are very welcome. Fighting bullet sponges isn't a very fun thing to do, and flying enemies with large health pools are never a good game decision. Changed to the hud elements and banshee were unnecessary. Having the option to switch between the Vanilla and Modded HUD should be provided instead, as it was done in Republic Commando. With the banshee, the new sounds devalidates the vehicles name (they're called banshees for how loud they are, UNSC forces could hear them miles away), but also removes the warning system that players would receive when they were about to get strafed. Finally, the tweaking of visuals is appreciated, but in some areas of the game, it is difficult to distinguish enemies from the environment, especially in darker environments. Although this can be tolerable in some occasions, it shouldn't be an often occurrence, as it would detract from gameplay. Otherwise, this is a nice mod. All the little changes show how much love was poured into making it.
Unfortunately the amount of variables that need to be changed per-level for the HUD (and pretty much every other change) makes providing different options very complex and difficult to keep synced together, at least for just one person to maintain. I think Halo 4 has some odd contrast issues that I tried to address with the mod but it can be compensated by adjusting the gamma in settings.
@@d3adconnection Ah, does Halo 4's HUD have a plethora of Post-Processing filters? I'd imagine all the noisy analytics paired with other little effects such as look sway would make it difficult to fine tune the hud. Some standalone HUD mods in other games have complete customization on every specific detail, including screen position, size, opacity, and sometimes even color, but due to the nature of this mod, I believe a simple toggle option would work wonders. Personally, I found the subtle helmet bob to be quite immersive, especially when sprinting, so the exclusion of such slightly disappointed me. However, in contrast to the drastic graphical changes (meritting another rewatch of this video to take in all the massive forerunner structures in their clear images) and several much appreciated adjustments to the gameplay, the revision to the HUD is a worthy sacrifice of a miniscule amount of immersion.
This really feels like a *directors* cut of Halo 4. Cleaned up gameplay without removing any of the mechanics is awesome. only thing I'm not a fan of is the removal of the HUD elements and extra dialogue
The one thing I would still change about the hud is moving the elements more to the edges of the screen. Since the top and bottom visuals of the helmet are removed the hud kinda felts like it crowds your vision
I actually always liked the loudness of banshees in the games they are loud. I like to believe humans called them banshees because of their loud screeching sound.
This mod literally showed me details I never knew about the base Halo 4 on Xbox. Like how when Requiem Opens and your on the Forward Unto Dawn the light is the sky on the other side of the surface not just some glaring bright light.
Looks like a halo 2 anniversary + destiny with reflow, waaayyy better, I never could put my finger on what it was that bugged me so much about the campaign levels and this was very eye-opening to a major issue, also it will contune to blow my mind as to how well indie mod makers capture the spirit of Halo games and fix levels to be just that much more better then the og devs
It's been since the launch since I played Halo 4 but I don't remember the reticle being in the center of the screen or the guns not taking up a quarter to half of the screen. I like how it looks. Now if the art style could change to look like Halo I would appreciate this game more.
The reticle change is actually a standard MCC option, which is great cause it works across all games. The gun placement is part of the mod and I'm glad it's well received because they used to be so huge on-screen.
I personally LOVED what 343 was TRYING to do with Halo 4. The story was tragic, full of hubris (the Ur-Didact's Hubris), but the flow, lighting, promethean-knightAI, and quickly despawning weapons made it unpleasant to play. I look forward to playing this mod (tho I wish there was an option to retain all that MisterChief-Cortana drama-dialogue lol)
I remember one annoying aspect of retail was how weapons would vanish when you're not looking at them. I remember one instance where there was still a banshee after a big fight, went over to a plasma pistol to overcharge shot it, swapped weapon and stood on my dropped weapon to make sure I could pick it up as soon as I fired, but the button prompt disappeared just after I fired, so was stuck with the plasma pistol.
You're misremembering. Even though the pc version has more intense lighting and effects, as he says in the video, the Xbox version is still closer to this original pc version than anywhere near what the mod does. If the mod was played on the Xbox, there would be so many jagged/janky edges with aliasing
The prometheans were always fun to fight in Halo 4, unlike the bullet sponge they are Halo 5. Idk, they didn't need to be changed in 4 to be great, they already were the best and most engaging enemy we've fought next to Halo 2 elites.
No they are not fun to fight in 4's retail. They are essentially the same thing in 5. You shoot at the glowy orange and expect them to teleport a couple times, making it tedious and annoying. Nobody is saying they are hard or bullet sponges except you....cause they are not in 4 or 5. Obviously you need more experience playing Halo if you think halo 2 elites were the best enemies we've fought lol. U joke
Looks great. Can't believe the lighting was this bad for this game when Halo 3's was so good and way ahead of its time for a 2007 game. Great mod! Though I would have left the dialogue between Chief and Cortana alone. It's fine.
There's a lot of stuff to love abt this mod, but theres a lot I don't like too. For example I really liked the HUD showing the helmet outline. I also liked the dialogue between the chief and Cortana, and the banshee sounds.
Nothing important was removed. I know that's subjective but I left pretty much all of the character developing and world building dialogue. I removed a few lines from Chief in the cutscenes to emphasize the emotions of the scenes and Chief's body language. Silence can work better in certain circumstances. This mod and the halo 3 sortofbalanced mod and the likes of reach evovled, spv3, and ruby's rebalanced halo 1, 2, 3, and reach shows that the fans can make all of the halo games reach there peak potential of something worth playing
Now if we could tweak the art style, apply classic base movement and jump height, fixed enemy AI behavior, adjusted dialog so Chief doesn't talk during gameplay, and replace the pre rendered cutscenes with an SFM substitute I'd probably love this game. Keep in mind I don't hate on 343 just for the fun of it, but because I genuinely believe that given the proper leadership and understanding of the classic fans Halo 4 could please people like me. Some people say Halo 4 has the best story, but I guarantee they only mean the emotionally manipulative death scene with Cortana that was undone in the sequel game. I really hope that within the next few years modders band together and do a full SPV3 style overhaul of Halo 4. Hell I'd fucking provide notes on what Bungie fans expected.
Sure the Banshee is supposed to be loud...."iSs A bAnShEe BrO!" But giving it a less annoying sound instead of keeping the original is better. It still makes a whirling noise. Maybe if the ce Banshee effects was carried over, that would be pretty cool
I’m looking forward to the day we can add assets to halo 4, and someone undergoes the task of remastering the graphics and art style to look like halo 3
If i had to critique 1 thing it is that i don't think thruster pack should he 1st person. I liked it better 3rd person. Because in 3rd person when i thruster pack it allows me to see a wider view of my surroundings for that brief 2 seconds but it really helps make my movement a bit better.
More weapons changes... and more ammo. But shit this LOOKS like it makes halo 4 a more fun campaign...4 is still the only one I'd never bother to replay
How? Every weapon combo you can do in 3 is still viable in 4. Heck the sandbox of this game is literally just a copy of reach's. Was it because they actually made the automatics viable this time?
I may have missed it, but did he add more ammunition to the weapons? Always felt like I went through the ammo too quickly for pretty much any weapon I used.
As someone who really loves H4’s campaign, I’m really excited to see how much better it could’ve been. Still love the story, map design (for the most part) and visuals, but man. These improvements look great.
