Better Humans | Spartan Race: Chapter 1 

At 54 years old I just ran my 1st Spartan race 3 months ago. Completely out of shape and was pathetic during the race. Joe’s brilliance in creating the Trifecta has got me motivated and in the gym daily. I’ve committed to completing a Trifecta in 2020. Still a ways too go but 100% better than where I was. Thank you Joe

Let's all be real here, Spartan does not only turn you into an amazing athlete but a god damn warrior physically and mentally. It turns into a life style and I'm thankful to Joe for creating something so crazy. I love it.

2018 was my first Spartan Race (Sprint). I was in the worst shape of my life. It took me 2 hours 44 minutes to finish. But you know what? I finished! And that's all I needed to continue to move forward. Spartan and other OCR's give me something to train for. I am ready for Spartan in September! AROO 💪 Thanks Joe!

My wife and started focusing on getting in shape and being healthier then we have been just a few years ago. We started out doing 5K's, 10K's, and eventually made our way up to being able to complete half marathons. We had heard of Spartan's before, but never really looked into it. When the Boise Sprint came to town in 2018, we decided to give it a shot. Talk about being completely unprepared, it was like nothing we had ever done before. After the race, my body hurt, my mind hurt, everything hurt... and I wanted more! We went home from the Sprint and I immediately started looking up other races. I learned about achieving the Trifecta, and started planning a Super and Beast for us. We started training harder and doing more research thanks to social media and RU-vid. We hit Utah for the Super and survived Tahoe for our first Beast and after having just experienced our first Spartan a few months earlier, earned our first Trifecta! New goal, AT LEAST one Trifecta per year! All I can say is Thank You Joe, and a huge thank you to all the elite Spartans, as well as the rest of the Spartan community. Through the sharing of your experiences and stories on social media, you have helped start a fire in me and my wife that is only fueled by more! Aroo! Aroo! Aroo!

It's true, these event's have changed the lives of so many people. A reason to train, a reason to attempt something different and it's happening every year. Keep it up Joe and can't wait to see the next chapters. I knocked out my first Ultra this year and look forward to the tougher challenge again!

I am 49 and I ran my first Sprint last October, my second in April and my first Super is next weekend. If everything goes right I'll earn my Trifecta in November.

I’ve been doing a whole bunch of OCR events for the past 6 years and getting better at it. But every time I get to do a Spartan Race, I get “reality checked” into a proper OCR event that really pushes me! Keep up the awesomeness! Greeting from The Netherlands! Aroooo!

I’m absolutely amazed to see so many people at Spartan races. If you’d said 30 years ago that people would pay to carry buckets and crawl under barbed wire, you would have been dismissed as a nut. Add to that all the other OCR races, marathons, 5K’s and other events, and it’s clear that millions of Americans don’t fit the stereotype of today’s people spending their time indoors on their devices and getting obese!

OCRs have gotten my wfe and i more passionate about fitness. we even have a backyard obstacle course! the OCR community is one of the best too. Aroo!

I got dangerously hypothermic at a beast one time and passed out for like 5 hours after the race. My parents thought I was asleep but I wasn’t. I just blacked out and wasn’t even tired. And I’d do it again to

amazing people,swear to god,thats such a different level,huge respect,and envy haha

I would NEVER doubt the awesomeness of the Pro Spartan competitors. But the RU-vid video showing Spartan CEO getting crushed at Air Force Para Rescue training showed that military operators are far superior athletes.

I always thought the Eco Challenge was much much tougher than Spartan & Tough Mudder but nobody here was possibly alive for those monstrosity OCR that is not staged to a point.

2:56 is a bizarre statement from Joe. No obstacle course racer could run a 4.3 40 and jump 40 inches so of course someone like Randy Moss is going to be physically lost in a long endurance event. Similarly cyclists arent training to hoist logs up hills so they will perform poorly at Spartan. Not a helpful boast.

Hmm speaking of being great all-around, how would Ashton-Eaton would do in an elite race?

Hey Spartan, what is the difference between an elite athlete and a pro athlete? You labeled Hunter as an elite athlete, while Ryan was labeled as a pro athlete.

Running is not the key to Spartan (Jordon Lebow) -- unless you want to beat the Elites. Spartan is not just about Elite. Anyone can enjoy the feeling of completing a Spartan knowing they pushed themselves. I know athletes with disabilities who compete and succeed in Spartan mountain races over 15 miles, as well as the shorter races.

When I first saw the title "better humans" I thought it would refer to the development of oneself. Kinda sad tho its actual meaning is, that Spartan race was superior to other sports ( however you could measure that). What kinda disrespectful and also naive point of view. Spartan race is a wonderful sport for people and I highly respect the people who found a passion in that. But to me it seems, that the people who invented Spartan racing are just mad about not being successful at any already established sport and are looking to find a way to overcome that trauma having been benched in highschool sports. In my opinion every sport is hard, every sport needs dedication, sweat, blood and tears to perform at a decent level. Pathetic.

I'd love to be able to watch these videos with my children. Why drop an F bomb in the first sentence. What if I'd started watching this with one of my children right by my side? Come on Spartan. You obviously want children involved in this lifestyle, which is why you offer kids races. Is the language really necessary?
