I love that Gavin always has such energy in the videos. They are always helpful and I always take something away from each one, but not only that, they are enjoyable to watch. Thanks Gavin.
Gavin is my favorite photographic mentor since I bought my first DSLR camera. His episodes are so enjoyable to watch. By the way, Sophie looks gorgeous!
I’m definitely a better portrait photographer. And have to thank Gavin for that. I sure do hope I get to meet my professor at a photo show soon here in the USA 🇺🇸 Thanks again! 😘
Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III = $ 1.800 + Olympus Zuiko ED 12-40mm f2.8 PRO = $ 1.000 = $ 2.800 = in this special case shown here I woudn`t say "You also shown that you don't need an expensive camera to get great photos.", it is an expensive camera + lense for most people ... but yes, this combo plus a matching TTL speedlite is worth every dollar and all you need for most situations
Loved the video, full of good tips. My question.....why did you use such a high shutter speed (1/1000th)?.... would you not get adequate results with , say, 1/250th?
Every time I see your "hit the SUBSCRIBE button" pop-up, I want to subscribe immediately. However... I already did !. Anyway Gavin, thanks for another excellent contribution to the world of artificial lights in photography.
Gavin, were your lights constant rather than flash? I was thinking that they were flash but you used 1/1000 sec so would have had to use High Speed Sync? Thanks
Great job Sophie! Oh yeah good job Gavin. I recently did a shoot downtown in Charleston at the 4 corners of law empty due to covid on a Sunday. I asked all the models who applied for the job what they would wear. The one who had the most creative idea got the job. Good photos are many times a team effort!
Always enjoy the way you present yourself. With dignity. So entertaining and informative too. Thank you. One day I have questions about a couple softwares I think you could either mentor me or explain how editing tools work that I own works correctly
It's a team sport except for when you are the model, the photographer and the hair and make-up artist all in one! Guess I am a one woman team. 😆 I love these videos btw. They have really helped me up my game with lighting.
About how far away from the background is the model? I also shoot in a small space and I always seem to have a tremendous amount of spill even with a grid.
love this video and this model she had a good lock on the antlers and ghost like make up, definitely Artemis in the woods looking for Apollo she's always great working with Mr. Hoey
Ever since I started doing photography, many years ago, the one advice i always heard over and over again was: “always check the background to ensure there is no tree or branch sticking out from the head of your model!” LOL no one ever suggested I should actually stick branches on the head of my model... Good to see new videos Gavin. Thanks for that, always interesting and informative
For this reason James ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eqdvNaLarz4.html HSS flash is an essential tool to understand if you want to shoot with wider apertures in rooms with super bright video lighting 😳
the antlers are ridiculous....and custom background, pro model and MUA - no special lights- lol - great photos, but not exactly as easy duplicate as you are representing it to be.
Hi Jonathan. I'm fairly sure I didn't say these photos was easy to reproduce at any point during this video. The point here is I couldn't do this without a lot of input from other creatives.
I always did model + myself. There is no big team Involved. And the model works for 2 hours during the shoot. I work for 30 hours in post processing on top of that. So I would say I do the most work BY FAR.
Great video gav as always, pretty sure all I watch are your tutorials and love giving them a try myself. I noticed you moved away from 1/250 and f8 for this one....looks great. Video request, is there such a thing as correct exposure or is it your preference? Or How to make money as a photographer, without doing weddings? Lol If you're ever in belfast you should do a workshop over here
Sir, you are the best photography teacher I had ever seen. I find your way of communication very simple and understandable. Keep going..... All the very best😍😍😍
The shoot was easy, that's sort of the point. The pre shoot planning and organising was tricky but on the day, I just had to set up the lights and trust that my team would come up with the style, make-up and poses I asked for 😉
Great video Gavin, I'm guessing that you are using High Speed Sync as your Speed is 1000th of a second as the sync speed of your Oly camera is 250th of a second. Can you confirm this please.
I enjoy your approach to photography. It's a collaborative project. Although, I acknowledge that there are photographers who are very meticulous and have to do it 100% their way. P.s., I'm also glad neither of you were neurotic about social distancing and wearing a mask.
you should put Gavin videos in some group, he is just best the host you have! He is amazing guy, knowledgeable, modest, knows how to explains things and make them simple! He is the reason why I subscribed you adorama chanel.
Fantastic work - quick question, how do you achieve the 'subscribe' parts of the end of the tutorials? They are always so imaginative. Very interested in this, perhaps this could be a video tutorial in its own right? Thank you.
Gavin or anyone how do i purchase Glow softboxes in UK and will they fit Broncolor 'H'? For some reason I can only find them on Adorama US and that makes them too expensive to consider with shipping and imports etc - same price as Broncolor in UK
Thank you Gavin! A fresh approach to a topic so often appearing from the pro shooters with RU-vid channels and your self-effacing style to entertaining.
Gavin, I really appreciate these videos and the effort that you have put into them. The models are attractive, top notch, the photos superb. I have learned a lot. Something that would help an aspiring photographer is your using a person not so young and not so petite. How would you best go about making a nice photo without hiding who she/he is? Pick one who is not a model and doesn't know how to pose. Out of the hundreds of videos I have watched none have tried to do this. Done right, I am sure this would be a benefit to many of your subscribers.
That's kind of you to say so Jamie but if you've ever seen any of my "live" videos you'll quickly realise not everything I say is quite as cogent as an edited video 😉
At the beginning of photography, I did some body painting, and I had a hard time getting a team together so I learned photography, lighting, makeup (especially SFX including the creation of prosthesis), the creation of props (headpiece...), now I also do part of my costumes. Most of the time I exchange a lot with my model and there are always 1 to 3 people present and I listen to their opinions and ideas but I control the process from beginning to end, photography and team work. Always so cool your videos Gavin (I already made a headpiece with branches also more than 5 years ago :P )
You are a great mentor, my photography has come on leaps and bounds since I started to follow your videos. But I have to give a big shout out to your model. she is a professional. hardly having to be directed. some models you have to tell them to move after every shot .
A perhaps more apt name than "project manager" is "art director". In my experience that role often indeed falls to the photographer, but in principle any of the participants could play that role and in some cases an art director may only fulfil only that role.
What I want to know is how did do it with Covid restrictions rule of six and he wasn't wearing a mask I have a small studio and thinking of getting models in how would it work.
