No guitar is as good at $10K. It's just a Gibson Les Paul Studio, at hugely higher price, and some relicing with damaging the finish.

I now own two studios which are vastly different in sound weight and tone. Mainly since I have dimarzios in the newer 2013 model And Seymour Duncans in the 1983 . I also own an Epiphone Trad Pro III which is quite different from the Studios. I've tried other models. Like custom and they are vastly different in many ways . I just can't afford one.

They aren't so different when you have the same pickups on the same Les Paul type of guitar, it will be about the same %99. Love you trogly but, just my two cents, I don't think it's drama that people are vexed by this signature. I think It feels like Gibson is trying to push a Gibson collectable and not a Kirk Hammett collectable. I think that if I was a big enough KH fan and wanted to buy a replica of one of his guitars, I would want it to be exactly the way that it is in the videos and pictures that made me love it. I would feel ripped off if I shelled out 8k to get a guitar that has the wrong pickups and the wrong logo. Imo Gibson really needs to reevaluate their current priorities.

@Coffeekupsandguitars

@@rainyday2315 I think that may be objectively true, depending on how you feel about EMGs, I think that upgrade might be diminished by the fact that it's a KH signature. I think for me personally I wouldn't care if the pickups are better, I'd care that I'm getting an accurate replica of the guitar. That's my personal feeling though, I think it ultimately comes down to how much a fan is willing to pay and how accurate they want it to be

IMO, a signature guitar is different than a tribute to a specific iconic guitar from an artist's past. If Kirk ordered one of these today perhaps he wouldn't get one with EMG's but if Gibson is going to label this as a Hammett "1989" signature then it should be authentic to that guitar. Why bother aging it if they're going to ignore other characteristics? Personally, I'm not a Hammett or EMG fan... far from it, but I'd be disappointed if I were. And then there's the price... basically upwards of $10k after tax for what, exactly?

I know. It's clearly just meant to be an overpriced decoration, so why not have it be accurate to the looks? It also strikes me how, yes, a lot of guitars are valuable for good reason, but imagine trying to resell a signature/replica that's not even accurate to the original. Something like this is only valuable because people agree it's "like the actual guitar", but like... it isn't lol

When you turned up the Piezo output and played:"Fade to Black", I thought it was just about perfect. And, I'm not even a Metallica fan. I have covered that tune in one or two bands. As of January 2024, I have recently played a Godin (belonging to a joint member of the band I presently play with) that includes a Piezo output (with full EQ) and the standard magnetic pickups- plus a synthesizer interface that I imagine works brilliantly but that I'm unlikely to utilize. I've enjoyed layering the acoustic output with the traditional one.

Salutations Austin! Nice Signature Les Paul Custom, I would rather it not have the Murphy Lab treatment, just brand new condition would be my preference, however, I do like the addition of the Fishman bridge with the built in pickup, but I might have been wired differently, such as a stereo Les Paul is, except with the piezoelectric pickup on it’s own separate output. In the case, it might be a good idea to use a magnetic latch to keep the storage compartment secure, so the contents don’t fall out all over the interior of the case, and potentially scratching the guitar. The pickups could easily be swapped out for those who want a different sound option. I think Gibson should offer a more affordable version of this guitar, without the Murphy Lab treatment, for working musicians, and also an Epiphone version for those on a smaller budget too. It sounds pretty good, as is, and I would not be surprised if a lot of musicians would like a Les Paul Custom such as one of these. Thanks for sharing this with us all! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸

Thanks to EMGs solderless pickup install it's easy enough to swop in some EMGs. Literally a 30 minute job if you know what you're doing.

It's not like gas companies where you HAVE to buy it, so not buying on day 2 means nothing when they have record profits on day 1 and 3 because you filled up before or after the "send a message" day. Gibson has NO reason to do better QC (they are going for the older look and crap QC makes it look played in, right? 😂) besides most are buying these to put on a wall, not play so why bother? Ok....done being sarcastic. Seriously, the story Trog told the other day about the shop lowering the price on a lefty LP that just WON'T sell is what people should do...stop paying the idiotic prices and the prices will stop being idiotic. This simply will NOT happen any time soon and again, Gibson has no reason to lower until we give them one. Until then, enjoy the LTD, S by Solar, Harley Benton, and other brands that are built well, play well, and are beautiful...they just don't have that name on em. I'm not bashing in any way either, I would buy Gibsons in a heartbeat if I could....truth hurts.

Depends on the area. If it is in a highly visible place that looks totally out of place, that is going to hurt it a lot. If it is inconspicuous... none at all. Fickle beast haha

@3:20 I think this is the biggest sticking point for me - Wino and this Kirk Custom are both "reissues" of guitars where actual original models are half the price. Surely anyone who wants the real thing will go and buy the real thing, so this just feels like a fairly transparent way to get money out of collectors who Gibson know will buy everything they release.
@alpeterson
@alpeterson 6 месяцев назад
Let’s be real here, Gibson isn’t for players at all anymore. They’re entirely serving the collectors base, people like Trogly that collect everything they can, fawn over them like these things are their actual children and more often than not can’t really play but for damn sure don’t get out and gig the things. It’s why new bands play Fender or smaller brands over Gibson 5 to one, Gibsons aren’t priced for working musicians and they don’t care, they’d rather milk the diehards for $1000 “collectible” pickups with a fucking case than make a good playing, reasonably priced guitar. Buy used or buy someone else, fuck this brand.
@mrungk
@mrungk 6 месяцев назад
Gibson haven't changed their prices if you adjust for inflation. They were always priced for professionals. The difference is that there is a lack of professionals. No one is gonna become a cultural icon like Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith if they play rock music nowadays.

I really don't understand custom shop aging that isn't correct or believable. Paying a shit load of money for a 'relic', imo you should expect that it's done with extreme attention to detail, otherwise you may as well just throw some bricks at it and age it yourself. That also extends to the guitar.. as a custom shop model saying it's 'based' on a certain guitar, but then being so wildly out of spec with that model is just weird and makes it seem like a moneygrab
@dboone7670

It doesn't make it seem like a money grab. It reveals the undeniable fact that it's a money grab. Slight difference

Try throwing bricks at your guitar, and let us know if it comes out as nice as this one or anything else that comes out the Murphy labs.

Fair enough the dislike of relics. What’s great about Gibson’s if you can buy in is that they come stock with that sensitive nitro finish which responds to your playing naturall. That I love!! However ML’s feel fantastic and are not just beaten up guitars. ML takes it to an art form. What’s great about a true vintage guitar that is naturally worn is that at least for me, I feel more about the music and less concerned about the preciousness of the instrument. I need to have quite a bit of wear on a new instrument before I stop stressing about dinging it up. If I could afford a Murphy Lab, I would expect every aspect of it from sound and feel to even the visuals to be way way cooler than a stock version. I think you get much more with a ML than just a guitar which has been whacked. PS: I restore violins and cellos for a living. Newly finished instruments are often nerve wracking to work on. Finish repairs are murder! But a hundred or 200 year old fiddle has a much more satisfying finish to polish and clean up. More makers are making more aged looking finishes and they mostly end up being way cooler than their pristine and shiny counterparts.

Lets be honest, they put it together with whatever parts they had at their factory, and priced it like they traveled back in time and brought back the original before it was handed to Kirk.
