Interesting that this video has become the most popular video about Amami. It's a testament to how underrated and unknown it remains. Yet, there's so much history in Amami, especially that of the Noro and spiritual Yuta, and later of colonialism and the sugar cane plantation hell imposed by the Satsuma regime. There's also the Gauguin of Amami, Tanaka Isson and his amazing depiction of nature before the coastline and rivers were altered and sometimes ravaged by pork barrel public works project that plague most of Japan country. This video only shows some of the most well known beach parks on the north part of Amami, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's so much more to see, especially south where this vlog didn't explore, such as parts of Kakeroma only accessible by boat. There are amazing coral reefs in the south, that were almost about to be destroyed by a Royal Caribbean Cruise project pushed on Amami by the MILT but successfully defeated by the locals. Amami is also lots of jungle and rivers. It has 15% of Japan's biodiversity and a great variety of amphibian and reptile species. It also boats the only beach in Japan, known as the Jurassic Beach of Amami (Katoku), where a giant leatherback was seen spawning. The Jurassic beach of Amami could also very well be the last beach hamlet in Japan with no seawall, and with a natural dune and river-mouth left untouched. Oh and let's not forget, Amami has great waves for surfing, a few big wave spots, many slabs, and an incredible beach break that can break like La Nord during typhoon swells. Lots of unexplored potential still.
thank you for coming to japan and introducing Amami island. i have never seen such a beautiful place. as a Japanese , i have to go to Amami island someday.
My home is Australia and love to travel to Japan. Such an old culture and traditions... So different from the way we live. Good video girls Keep up the good work !!
omg i was checking google earth when i came across this island ...i really wanted to know about this but there weren't much information about this island but glad someone visit it ...i really wanted to explore that place it looks so beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️✨
Another great vlog with your beautiful signature B-roll and drone footage. Thanks for sharing another hidden Japanese gem, Hannah. I'd never heard of Amami before your two vlogs. I've been looking forward to this vlog since your Heart Rock pic on IG. I liked how the music was upbeat and exciting during the day and then became chill as the sun set. Perfect to set the mood, change the pace and contrast with the fun-filled day. I also appreciate the dango shot. It's like another character in your vlogs now. Cheers!
私の地元です!来てくれて本当にありがとうございます🌴 奄美大島は島の8割が森に囲まれている島なので 沖縄とはまた違った南国感を味わえると思います! ぜひまたいらしてくださいね☺️ It's my hometown!! Thank you for coming and introducing🌴 Amami Oshima is an island where 80% of the island is in the forest. I think you could feel closer to nature than Okinawa. (Okinawa is also a beautiful island!!) I hope you had great time in Amami and you like it☺️ (Sorry,I’m not good at English, but I wanted to express my gratitude.)
Although geographically seeming to belong to Okinawa Ken, Amami is considered part of Kyushu. Odd since it also has Habu the venomous pit viper. Between all those islands I prefer Yakushima since it has lots of places to hike. It does not have Habu, but instead has other kinds of snakes which are not as agressive as Habu. Yakushima is not too crowded, but stay away during peak season if you hate crowds and want to hike. I also liked Iriomote, part of Okinawa Ken, as well as Ishigaki. Iriomote has some good scuba diving as well as lots of places to kayak about if you like mangroves. There are some good trails too. Ishigaki has some nice snorkeling and I found a boatmaker who will take you on an evening tour in an Okinawan Sabani. Likewise, many Japanese visit both during peak season. The Kerema islands are also nice if you like lounging on the beach, otherwise the anual Sabani race is exciting. Hateruma, the most southern island of the Okinawa chain has one of the best beaches. I am not sure why but this island may not have Habu snakes. So yes, if you hate crowds, stay away from Naha in Okinawa. The northern part is less crowded, such as north of Motobu. The eastern side is also less crowded but stay away from military areas. I guess it all depends what you want. Next time I go it will be to Iriomote.
Will have to add this as a dream destination to the list of places I go if I ever do get to go to Japan. And you two are freaking adorable! Seriously! Thank you again for sharing another peek into your beautiful world!
Thank you so much for your video!! I’m from Amami islands, and I had been growing up in this island. In our islands, there are much more amazing beautiful places than you showed us. It doesn’t mean that your video is not good, but I hope you’ll come to our islands, again!! And, you can find more something to make you more excited! My English skill is not good. If my English makes you tired to read, I’ll be sorry.
This is so magical!! Loved this! If I'm ever in Japan I'm totally checking out this area. Ps. Love your background music choices, the first one was so cute :')
I struggled to push the 'like' button, because the video of the beach was just so beautiful but as a former resident of Okinawa took offense to your labeling Okinawa as being inferior to somewhere else. But in the end, I give credit to where it's due. Your video of Amami beaches is simply impeccable and astonishing. I have never been to Amami (though have been to Zamami, excuse the pun), and must thank you for the introduction to the island. Beautiful.
Amami waters remind me of Iejima off the coast of Okinawa. I was stationed there during the late 60's and did a lot of scuba diving inside the reef. The waters had the same clear blue color I remember. Thanks for capturing these beautiful videos.
This is my mother's home island. they live in the upper north area of the island, on the shores of the oyster inlet (pearl farming is a product). Talk about complete peace and tranquil waters.
You girls have done such a good job with this video. I am now looking into this Island to see if it fits into future travel plans for Japan. Thanks for the tip.
Hey Hannah how goes it! I’m from Melbourne and I love traveling to Asia and a specially japan. I love watching your videos, and I love seeing fellow aussies traveling and having fun!
Known for their subtropical climate and excellent coral reefs, these islands offer year-round opportunities for water sports such as scuba diving, boating, surfing, and swimming.
Nowadays I’m watching your RU-vid for studying English I’m in Sydney but lived in Amami Island for one year one year ago Looove Island so this video made me happy 😊
Its crazy how isolated these islands are. I recently came back from Japan after visiting some family and pulled up Google maps out of sheer curiousity and was surprised to discover how many more islands there are south of Okinawa. What is even crazier is that most of these isolated islands have people living on them. E.g., Miyako-jima, Ishigaki, Taketomi, and Yonaguni.
I loved the view and all of the beaches!! Your content makes me so happy!! I really do enjoy learning from you and watching your videos! Love from Mokooplays
You say ‘beach hut’, I say Amami holiday home! Awesome work, as always, stunning footage, especially the aerial beach shots and the timelapse! And the singing! Gosh, the SINGING! 😱
Yeah Okinawa is absolutely stunning and I’ve only seen probably a small portion of it but Amami was just as beautiful as the places I’ve been but way less people. Love Okinawa though.
I've never heard of Amami before now, but that is some of the cleanest waters I've seen. The beaches were beautiful as well! Definitely adding this place on my to go list. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for coming to Amani! That was the greatest video of Amani I’ve ever seen. Hope you will Visit us again and make more wonderful videos of Amami!
Hello :) what time of year did you visit the island? Looks beautiful but also quieter than the others. Are there always so few people or did you go in „off Season“? Thank you
That supermarket definitely looks like a western supermarket, I thought it was a Woolworths or a Coles for a second, oh greetings from New South Wales Australia btw
It's so beautiful! There are some great islands also in Okinawa. Miyako-jima has beautiful beach with white sand and if you wanna enjoy islands hopping I recommend Ishigaki-jima!
Can't believe that I saw u and Yoshi at Roppongi 2 days ago... I was shocked that you were much more beautiful than I expected.... I was like I was freezing for a second when I saw u guys lol Well, Amamioshima is definitely one of the beautiful islands for sure, but there are heaps of beautiful small islands that are considered to be a part of Okinawa a little bit away from Okinawa as well! like Hateruma-jima, Tokashiki-jima, Ie-jima and so on,,, anyway, love your videos, thanks for sharing. Keep it up!
OK at his point....I am and will immerse myself wowo....spent 4 years in Okinawa Japan,....miss it sooooo much but...would love to do it with you guys .....how fun!!!!!!
I lived in Okinawa 13 years and built a house on the ocean there. What makes Amami a better destination is the fact it doesn't have 50,000 U.S serviceman on it!
