The complete lack of ego is amazing! There is an early interview where the goup is asked, "Who is the best singer in the group?, and they all immediately point to Mitch, whose response is "I'm honored, but I'm not sure I agree!"

The great strength of Pentatonix is that they combine two traits: Every member could easily front their own group, so no matter who is on lead at any time, the vocals will be amazing.. And they all set their egos aside, when not on lead, each member puts 100% into nailing the background harmonies, rhythms, and "instrument" sounds to make the whole group even better than the sum of it's components. To really appreciate them, you need to listen to each song multiple times, and on some of the re-listens focus only on what's going on in the background. Avi and Kevin (and now Matt and Kevin) provide that solid percussion/bass foundation that everything else is built on, and "The Trio", Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie, when not on lead are doing some amazing things with their voices to fill in the backing. Pure artistry.

The Five Faces of New Pentaholics 1. The most common is the Mitch Slapped. Commonly found when Mitch is heard for the first time in Hallelujah, The Prayer, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Creep and doing Aha! at the Star Vista. 2. The Wide Eyed Look of Disbelief. Normally found when you hear their Wall of Sound. Found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Imagine, Amazing Grace, The Prayer and Mad World. 3. The I Didn’t Want It to End face. Most commonly found after listening to the 90s Dance Medley. It can also be found after listening to all their medleys and evolutions. 4. The Teary Eyed Look. This is commonly found when listening to an emotional song of theirs or just the sheer beauty of their work. Commonly found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, Imagine, The Prayer, Prayers for This World and most especially Thank You. 5. The What Did I Just Hear Face. Happens when Pentatonix starts strong, or when you hear a really special note or Kevin sound. Is usually accompanied by rewinding the video or song to make sure your ears really heard what they heard. Those times are too many to list, but the most common rewind at the start moment is the beginning of Sound of Silence.
Of course, of you want to see their "roots" theres always their season winning performances on "The Sing Off" in 2011 ot some of the "truo" performances before Pentatonix was born 😂
This group does this to literally EVERY song they sing so it doesn't really matter which song you choose. Their talent and creativity are so apparent in every performance and I believe their ability to create the most perfect, powerful harmonies is unmatched. I get goosebumps every time no matter how many times I've heard that particular song. If you plan to go further down the PTX rabbit hole, I would advise you to go with their older songs first then move forward so you can see how they have progressed but that's just my opinion. I know that everyone recommends Hallelujah but I have to agree that it's a great place to go. Enjoy!
My faves include;"Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone" and "Seasons of Love"(Kirsties best, imho), but head and shoulders above the rest is "O Come, All Ye Faithful". I kid you not. It's a bop. You may not want to wait until Christmas. It's always fun to watch noobs on their road of discovery.
All three of those are top tier. And "O Come All Ye Faithful" is one of my favorite Christmas songs from them (it's a virtual tie with "Mary Did You Know?"). As you say, it's a bop!
The first time I heard them do this was 10 months after they won The Sing Off. It was an outdoor concert in the Trio's home town of Arlington Texas with an estimated 10,000 in the audience. This is the song they started the concert with. Labor Day 2012.
Feel free to continue with your exploration of Pentatonix. Or also known as PTX. Always entertaining to watch someone fall down the rabbit hole. They've done Queen, Simon & Garfunkel, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Imagine Dragons plus too many to mention. Even won a Grammy collabing with Dolly Parton. Plus a unique version of the Wizard of Oz (Ahhhs) I also think they have at least 6 Christmas/Holiday albums. Their original video of Hallelujah has over 700 million views, although I personally prefer the live version from their NBC Christmas special. This showcases what they can do outside a studio, which you witnessed with Daft Punk. Lots to choose from
The chances of this group coming together was so infinitesimally small that only the powers that be in the universe could have made it happen. I’m glad they decided to do that to allow us mere mortals to have something to brighten our days. Three kids meet as children who love to sing and decide to keep singing together in school and local theater. As a side note, can you imagine trying to keep those three reigned in in high school choir? Scott, Mitch and Kirstie say that she did help them learn to blend better. They become life-long friends. Scott befriends Ben Bram who helps Scott get on The Sing Off. Ben introduces Scott to Avi. Scott talks Kevin into giving up med school at Yale and joining four strangers to compete on The Sing Off. They actually win the show. Sony drops them so they decide to start building their Pentaholic following on You Tube. Viral videos, and great music follows, and they get resigned to Sony. Avi decides to leave the group and they find another great bass in Matt. While Matt is not Avi, he is still excellent and I think he blends even better with the other members of PTX. If anything happens differently along that path Pentatonix does not exist, and the world is a lesser place.
A few responders have hit over 300 song responses by them...yep, that's how good they are. They have over 40 originals as well. No one is better at Accapella.

I just subbed. I really enjoy your Pentatonix (PTX) reactions....very enthusiastic. Since you have now watched 3 of their videos it's time for introductions. Avi (bass) has a plaid shirt on, Scott(baritone) is blonde, Kevin (beatboxer), Kirstie rhymes with thirsty (mezzo soprano), and Mitch is the tenor with the blue shirt and black hair. Now if you like a particular person performance you can call them by name. In 2017 Avi left the group amicably and the new bass became Matt. He is still the bass. This Pentaholic (me) welcomes you down the PTX rabbit hole!
Looking forward to this. This has always been one of my top Avi-era songs, but not a lot of people react to it because It gets lost in the sea of the same dozen most-requested songs given to every reaction channel.

Lots of folks also play their live Christmas version because they just can't believe its not heavily "tweaked" in the studio. Then there's The Sound of Silence, Mary Did You Know, The Prayer, and if you really want to hear Kirsty take over and belt, plus absolutely beautiful scenery, try Amazing Grace. Enjoy!!!
imo everything they do is better than the original 🙈💙 though i could be biased. id definitely rec their edm inspired original Love Again, theres a really great video of them performing that live on 24/7 that you should totally watch too after the official video. its just SO crazy seeing them perform edm a cappella live. they are so unbelievably talented

Oh, here is my off the top of my head recommendations if you like this... Latch, Rather Be, Love Again (an original) and I think Be My Eyes which is more recent, also an original, it has Enya vibes. She has several others she wrote: Love Me When I Don't, Water ( performed as part of the PopSpring 2016 concert which has 2 other PTX originals and The Evolution of Michael Jackson.) It's Different Now ( my fave but it doesn't have an official video, just a lyric/visualizer video), plus two solos: Break A Little and Naked.
Another great song, by the masters of homophony, I love how excited you get. You even make headphones look hot, they should pay you to show them off. Another song like this from the same period is an original called Love Again, it is a chill factory. Also, there is the Macklemore-Ryan Lewis cover of Can’t Hold Us, bring a pillow for your jaw,for when it hits the floor.
Generally their upgrades *ARE* better than the originals. For the best introduction to this fabulous group, start at the beginning with their 2011 Sing-Off journey. Talk about magic!

Don't try to compare songs to their originals. It'll just hurt your brain. There's a time for EDM and there's a time for Pentatonix. It's all in the mood. Having said that, I can try to put your predicament into perspective: When an A Cappella Group goes up against a group that uses instruments, you'd naturally think the musical instrument group has the advantage. But when Pentatonix IS that A Cappella Group, they have the edge. This is because they have five voices to use at their discretion, and each of these voices comes with their own toolbox full of tools. On top of that, they have studied music. They live and breathe it. Composition, technique, harmonies, rhythms, all of that stuff that is over my head... They Know Music. They Master Music. They Invent Music. They ARE Music. In their RU-vid documentary "On my Way Home" (don't watch it yet! I'll help you soon, I promise.. it's just a big post so not today.. next PTX reaction)... they mention that in order for a song to be released by them, it has to get past all five of them. They're each perfectionists, but in different ways from each other. So if it gets past all five, you know it's got the PTX Seal of approval and it's going to be insanely good. You need a lot of talent to go up against an EDM Legend like Swedish House Mafia with an A Cappella group, and they have it. Heck, they had it 11 years ago when this video came out.

This version is way better than the original, they’re an amazing group of singers! There’s nothing much they can’t do! There’s another singing Acapella group called VoicePlay, they’re also amazing, they’ve also covered Skyrim - The dragon born comes, the performance is just magnificent! I actually love this one but forget about it a lot! I like the extremes- where they do techno, or dubstep, or just very electric sounding songs. Like this one and Daft Punk. BUT- I love when they do straight 5 part harmonies- where Kevin and Avi/Matt sing, too. If you want to hear an original like that, look up Run To You. That's one where you kind of just have to close your eyes and listen, though, so even though it has an official video, I'd encourage you to check that one out whether you do a reaction or not. You know what? Yeah I'm gonna say it. It's my favorite they've ever done. That's saying something.
