Growing up we went on three week camping trips each summer. Six out of seven days we stayed in primitive USFS and BLM campgrounds and about once a day we would go to a KOA or similar place. Boy was it nice having water, electricity, flush toilets and showers.

Happy Valentine's Day to you. Thank you for sharing! Beautiful area! Have few questions 1. At 7:00 of the video, what's that thing under the van behind the rear tire that looks like it was going to bottom out.? 2. Still haven't figure out whose Irene, 3. Are there snakes to worry about where you're at? 4. Would a LTV able to make it to the site you were at? Thanks
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 года назад
Happy Valentine's day! That is the tail pipe (exhaust) for the generator that's under the van. Irene is Chris's middle name (Christine Irene!) and also her grand ma's name and great grand ma's name. We named our business after that. There are snakes out there but, you rarely see them as snakes usually hide under rocks and in holes. ( Don't turn over rocks!) An LTV might be a bit too wide and would have worse ground clearance and overhang, but there is a spot in the beginning we show next week where you would be fine.

Yes, we've now had them for about 5 months and literally use them twice a day every day. They are still holding up great and don't show any signs of wear and tear. They really do help with the heat and the cold and the extra space inside we gained from our "sheet style" is awesome!

I can tell you right now what the "limitations" are with that van...not too much. I don't know if someone makes a lift lit for that dually, but if they do a mere 2" would make a huge difference when off road...I think you're stuck with what you've got though...which is a bummer, because it's only a matter of time and the bottom of that thing is gonna take some hits. You can always ride your bike ahead to see what awaits on some of these roads, but another great idea is a small drone...using that too scope the area saves a ton of time. I can't tell you how many times I've used it to see a nice campsite half a mile ahead and then another that blows it away a bit further than that...the drone pays for itself, really.

Is it acceptable to trim down some of those branches to prevent your rig from getting scratched as you crawl by?
@PsRohrbaugh
@PsRohrbaugh 3 года назад
The legality depends on whether it's a national forest, national park, BLM land, state park, or private - they've each got different rules. But if it's a small branch and you're not needing to get out a chainsaw or ax people probably won't care. Even better if nobody sees you.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 года назад
The branches were actually cut already, but it was still a tight fit. A good way to think about it is what if 1000's of people do the same thing, or decide to remove a little barrel cactus cause it in their way. We try not to disturb any of the landscape, but also not damage our rig of course.

Thanks for this. I'm in S. Cal. with an Airstream or getaways, so informed leads on quiet spots in range is a tremendous help. I especially enjoyed the dawn walk with an eye to the flora. Very nice. You asked about interest on safety matters. I'm interested. The equipment reviews are very good, as always. I looked for a link to the new grill but don't see it here. Also, am I right to assume it's hooked up to your internal tank? Thanks again. I haven't hooked up a grill yet, and I've got some research to do about specific regulator requirements for my Interstate and any grill I buy.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 года назад
Thanks Tim! I think the 17in is sold out on Amazon, but you can get it in local stores as well. Here is the link to all of our outdoor equipment. www.amazon.com/shop/ireneironfitness?listId=1YL8EL7UTYHFH I need to do a specific video on the blackstone, but I chose it for two reasons. 1) the flat small size when storing under the rear seat. 2) It's regulator is built into a detachable hose that goes to the small 1lb green propane canisters. This means when you unscrew the included hose and replace it with a quick disconnect style (on that link) you can attach it to your onboard propane on your RV. Many other grills have built in regulators and they don't work with RV propane tanks because they have built in regs as well. Hope this helps!

Have you encountered scorpions and tarantulas? No one ever talks about them in the desert. Are there snakes? You walk a lot and I would think you’d encounter ‘things’!!!

It really is weird that we don't see more out here, but the desert animals do such a good job of hiding during the day! We did see lizards, ground squirrels, owls, a big hare, and birds. We've seen one tarantula in CA and many snakes in SD, but that's it... no scorpions!

What brand / type / set of resistance bands do you use while you are on the road?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 года назад
Hey, Michael. We use Undersun Fitness resistance bands and we love them. They are really high quality, and affordable. It comes in a set of 5 bands + indoor anchor. The bands included are XL, L, M, H, & XH. Both Aaron and I use all 5 strengths. We really like them since they are so easy to use, portable, and they don't take up much space. We can even use them inside our van on cold/rainy/dark mornings. Here is a link to the bands, you can use my code "IreneIron" for 10% off: bit.ly/2RiP41C

Great videos, just discovered your channel. Boondocking questions: Did you do anything custom to the Airstream Interstate for boondocking or just get the top solar/lithium package(s). Second, are the front screens and blinds Airstream, 3rd party, or custom? I hope to retire in a year and begin RV travels this fall or next year. I'll definitely prefer remote areas over big RV parks, unless to dump/refill, etc.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 года назад
Hey Richard, thanks for watching! We haven't had to do any other major things for boondocking, but we do bring and extra 12 gallons of water. It just takes some practice! If you want to watch our 60 days of boondocking videos you can see how we started. ru-vid.com/group/PLdJBTbJVb0R3p1_MJe2ffoJikhx_U3YBO The screens we made from solar blocking material and the shades are third party ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_aJ05yKrWV4.html Your in the research and dreaming stage which is one of the best parts!! I really like 7 days of boondocking followed by a day in an rv park. It allows me to do laundry dump and fill and get a full battery charge. Thousand trails/Encore parks are alright but you seem to be packed in like sardines. When I'm in Quartziite I like Arizona sun rv at $30 a night, it's worth the $120 a month to not have to wait for services in town.

Hello guys. Thank you for another very interesting video. Another well done video. We can't wait to see part 2. QUESTION: I think there would be interested in a video on using LP, such as places you use to buy the LP, how to use LP safely, how use the LP connection with a Blackstone Grill (versus using a small green tank), and your opinion on the future of LG (Diana saw an article of possible shortage of LP later this year).

Surprisingly we don't see a lot of snakes! They are good at hiding, but it would definitely be a bit scary to see a rattler. You just have to be carful and make sure to not turn over rocks! We did see some small snakes in Badlands though.

Super informative as always! Quick question: are your parking leveler blocks tough enough to set in a road dip and give you an extra inch or two of clearance under circumstances where it is super tight? Also, someone had to teach me, so I hope you don't mind me sharing, apparently it is pronounced "tah-heen". ❤🤗

Hey, I love the mobility of a class b for us not staying in a spot more than 3 days we are thinking of a small class c 25 ft. total length bumper to bumper for the extra room . What are your thoughts thanks in advance
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 года назад
I think the small class C's are great for more space, a slide out, and bigger tanks as well. But, the big trade off is the width of those. It would not have fit very well down the road in this video, but you could still stay in the same area, but just closer to other people and closer to the main road. We also do alot of big cites and it would be tighter there as well.
