@@beetlegeuse_ They mean (I think) that she has a sort of blur filter on so in real life it would look a bit odd when the makeup is placed to mask her bone structure because you would still be able to see it if that makes sense.
Fun fact: Snow White was actually inspired by Betty Boop which is why her design and voice sounds like her. They even brought in the artist who drew Betty's design.
@@tillpan5804 This is what the internet says: "Esther Jones is the name of the real Betty Boop. The iconic cartoon character Betty Boop was inspired by a Black jazz singer in Harlem".
@@scurry_scurry bro you just said good afternoon and they said “This is the first time l've seen a Betty video of a black RU-vidr! I envy the big eyes that are not inferior to false eyelashes~”
@Angela I told you just before I thought you had " assaulted" the person oh. It's not my fault if you express yourself badly lol. But sorry it’s my fault I have trouble understanding your comment
@@kurokoli i have these and they're both. it's a dimple where your smile lines are. one of my smile line dimples is way more pronounced and I also have a cheek dimple on that side but they're both dimples. a dimple is just a muscle weakness. they can be in your cheeks, chin, lower back, etc.
@@jennyro6789 No. Helen Kane was the voice actor. Baby Ester was a singer who did in fact inspire Helen Kanes interpretation of Betty Boop, in terms of the "boop boop ba doop". Helen used inspiration of Clara Bow for the look. Also its important to not that Baby Ester is not the first one to say "boop boop ba doop" in the scat style, that award of innovation goes to Gertrude Sanders. Additionally, I don't believe it was "stolen" because scar singing was a musical style / genre of its own. Helen Kane didnt come up with the style and the "boop ba doop" and neither did Baby Ester, instead an older singer Gertrude did. Would that make Baby Ester a thief? No, I don't believe it would. It merely means that Gertrude Sanders may have started a really popular style
For anyone who was wondering why she said “Ain’t you kinda gay” is because back in the day, gay meant happy. So she’s actually saying “ain’t you kinda happy”
I'm so happy Betty is finally being recognized. When i was little, I lived in the ghetto and was too poor to afford cartoons. I lived on Durdin Drive, Silsbee Texas. I don't live there anymore luckily lol. But yeah, Betty boop and Popeye were the only cartoons I had. I was literally raised on her. I'm glad she's being recognized. Edit: I know she's been popular for a while, but not as popular as she is now. When i was growing up, not many people knew of her, but this also could be the fact that I was living in a ghetto town where old fashioned cartoons were not focused on. Also, I know it wasn't necessarily a "good" cartoon due to the racism and sexism. That's not what I was talking about, please don't focus on the negative right now. Let's just focus on the fact that it's an iconic vintage cartoon, k?
Betty Boop was originally inspired by a black female performer. Fits perfectly. Betty Boop's hair reminds me of the styling of baby hairs today. Beautiful talent in makeup to the creator.
Are you referring to Josephine Baker? I always felt like Betty Boop was given that same flirtatious character as Josehine.. and the short hair, big eyes matched as well..
Fun fact: Betty Boop was based on a black woman. Her name was Esther Jones. I believe took Paramount to court for stealing her character. She was unable to prove she first preformed “boop boop a-doop” on stage and seeing that baby-talk was relatively common for stage girls, and the claims going against her stating that Helen Kane (the recorded voice of Betty boop) preformed the Betty boop songs before Esther (which was false), Esther lost the lawsuit. She continued to play the character on stage but she made no money from the profits paramount made on Betty boop.
Wait wasn't it Helen Kane that took them to court for stealing her act but had lost bc Esther was the creator of the "a boop boop de boop" (no hate just askin 😊)
mira_lmao is right. Helen Kane sued Paramount for thinking they stole her act, but one of the key pieces of defense was saying one of the main inspirations of Betty Boop was Baby Esther. I also heard a rumor that Betty Boop was originally supposed to be black because of that, but I don't know if I have a source for that info.
Actually no...lmao, the character was inspired by an black dancer but the performer that voiced her wasn't. They basically whitewashed a real personality a real person into a white cartoon character. All the voice actresses to Betty boop was white unfortunately
@@dave-69 no so basically a black person made her but a white lady who said beep boop like Betty boop... she framed the original woman that she stole her animation or whatever but the original woman who made it obviously didn't win the court thing and the white lady now owns it .
After having learned Betty Boop was originally supposed to be black, I have such extra appreciation for this! I really want a Betty Boop revival cartoon where she is black.
She was never supposed to be black she was *_inspired_* by a black singer (according to the creators) hence the "boop boop bee doop". She was inspired by Baby Esther Jones, but the actual Betty Boop was never supposed to be black, her original design is actually a dog. Idk why people keep saying this...
I wish my grandmother was still around to see this. We loved watching Betty Boop cartoons together while I was growing up; it was our thing. Thank you for doing this and helping me reminisce about the good times. :)
INCREDIBLE transformation and flawless lip syncing! It literally felt like watching a Betty Boop cartoon with each smile, pout, and wink. Like, how?? How does one person fit that much talent inside of them (and stunning beauty on the outside)?!!
ya it’s so frustrating when makeup ppl half ass a lip sync and it’s all fucked up-like you didn’t have to but you did and you didn’t COMMIT-this was satisfactory
@@gabiladobrawl to be more in line w/the look of Betty boop I would think? Like in cosplay…. It’s not like normal makeup where your enhancing ur own features… you’re trying to take ur features & make them more in-line w/the specific character. But that’s what I would think.
Love this. Betty Boop was basically the stolen identity of a real person. Baby Esther was a black performer at The Cotton Club. They not only used her physical likeness they even stole the boop boop badoop. No credit, recognition or permission was given
@@iiipurrrsentkitty4676yeah but as themselves. not as a white version of them that was made by a major corporation which gives them little to no credit LOL. she was not intended to be remembered though this character
@@zina2435 I get that. Really I do. None of Hollywood actors and actors were paid like they are today. Back then you had to be signed to studio. The studio decided which parts if any you would be used. If another studio was producing a movie that you would be PERFECT for. Too bad. You still owe your original studio say X amount of more movies before you were free. Same thing in music. Do you remember what Michael Jackson said at that press conference? He owed one more album to Sony. Then he called Tony Motorola the devil. Then he was gone. I agree it’s not fair. I agree Angela Basset should win an Oscar. Just like I think Johnny Depp deserves one. Holly weird sucks and I don’t go to their movies anymore. 😉✌️
I just love this so much I love Betty boop Random fun fact: the show Betty boop was inspired by a black lady Thank you for pointing out more details for everyone
Fun fact: Betty Boop was based off of a real life black woman, but since it wasn’t considered “pretty” to be black back then they made her white. Edit: damn, 1.4k. Edit2: damn, 1.5k (and yes, I’ll keep this going.) Edit3: damn, 1.6k Edit4: whatever you have to say bout my comment, good or bad I already know. Yeah, check the replies.
The makers were not African Americans they were both white. Max Fleischer and Grim Natwick made Betty boop. They made the original sketches in the 1930s for their Talkartoon and the Betty Boop show
She was actually rumored to be a girl under the age of 16, I believe. Baby Esther was a black, girl, performer. There are a few ages that she was rumored to be but the most rumored ages were 12-13.
The show wasn’t made by African-Americans. In fact, Esther Jones (the black woman you’re referring to) I believe took them to court for stealing her character. She was unable to prove she first preformed “boop boop a-doop” on stage and seeing that baby-talk was relatively common for stage girls, and the claims going against her stating that Helen Kane (the recorded voice of Betty boop, also a white woman) preformed the Betty boop songs before Esther (which was false), Esther lost the lawsuit. She continued to play the character on stage but she made no money from the profits paramount made on Betty Boop.
I literally just said "boop boop be doop" like 5 minutes ago out of the blue and now this popped up. Glad the agent listening to my phone brought me here, you're so talented!
to anyone who is confused why it says gay: the original meaning of gay was ‘happy’ so in old audios or old tv shows from the 1900’s some of them might say gay because they didn’t refer to it as two men together in a couple it was to the meaning happy so remember this ❤ edit: I started war- edit: .. 1.2k??? I was just giving a definition 1.5K?????
Also, gay still does mean happy today, if u look it up in the dictionary it will tell you that. It’s just that today it means both happy and two men in a relationship
i actually think that’s because she’s using a filter to blur her face because real dimples don’t look like that 😭 but she’s still gorgeous, just saying most influencers and celebrities in general use a lot of filters.
Fun fact : the original Betty boop was based on a black woman who sang. Her name was Esther Jones. It's sad that they made her white, just to be more acceptable socially at the time. And Esther actually did sing "boop-boop-a-doop" in some songs. I wish more people knew about this!!
They made her white ? Like Betty boop was white ? I haven't seen her a lot and I'm not sure she was in anything with colors but in my mind I always remembered her as black now I'm finding out she wasn't?
I wonder why people are deciding to lie about this story there is history in books that never mentioned her as black she was originally a dog and then drawn into a woman why try to change something in history I don't get it...
If you do this black and white except for the lipstick (with grey foundation and all) for Halloween, some people will faint from fear. It's so perfect!
