Wow The great voice of Betty Buckley. She had such resonance in her voice, I saw her in 'Edwin Drood'.That voice could raise the rafters at the theater. Thanks for sharing this
Michael, I just love your recent focus on Betty Lynn and her brilliance. Thank you for these restorations. They help highlight ALL the performers from these shows! ❤
THANK YOU for posting, Michael! It's so strange...I was just discussing this version of "Carrie" with friends last night! (One friend said he'd been in London at the time the RSC was performing "Carrie" and could have seen the show, but thought it sounded too bizarre and didn't go.) But at least we all have this! Thanks again!!! ❤
Wow Kelly, your friend would have seen a unique spectacle for sure, he'd also not have seen Betty Buckley in the role as Margaret as Barbara Cook was playing it at the time, (and unceremoniously vacated the show when she was allegedly almost decapitated by a massive set piece) Betty actually brought a visceral fire to the role which elevated the mother/daughter material by leaps and bounds! Hunt around RU-vid for links which feature great video and audio of the Broadway incarnation.
People complain about the Greek uniforms but but I think it kinda works in the teachers favor. The two outfits I see her in actually do kinda look teachery (that’s not even a word but ok) like the outfit she wears in in kinda makes her look like a karate instructor, which is kinda fitting considering the fact she’s a gym teacher. And the outfit she wears in unsuspecting hearts actually sort of looks like a regular teacher outfit (btw the reason why I keep calling her just “the teacher” is because I actually forgot her name lol)
