The history of the Betty Ford Center reflects the life story of its visionary, Betty Ford. Mrs. Ford's decision to undertake the enormous project ̶ that went on to achieve world renowned recognition ̶ followed her own experiences with addiction and recovery. Her idea was to create an addiction treatment center that emphasized the needs of women and included the entire family in the process. The Center opened its doors in October of 1982 under the leadership of Mrs. Ford and her co-founder, Ambassador Leonard Firestone.
Film produced in 2007 to commemorate the Betty Ford Center's 25th anniversary. Narrated by Ali MacGraw.

Betty Ford got help which in turn helped millions. Nancy Reagan's Just Say No campaign was ridiculous.

Yes, Betty was amazing. "Just say no" was well intended but naive. It wasn't ridiculous so much as futile.

Betty Ford’s honest and candid admission of who and what she was …”an alcoholic” certainly helped millions of people living in denial of their own active addiction to recover… one day at a time through 12th Step recovery. If you are reading this or somehow stumbled across this in the middle of the night and are wondering how your life got to this point…we have all been there….come and join us. Your new life awaits! ✨❤️✨

We walked around the house on eggshells careful to not upset the rage-a-holic who threw alarm clocks at walls and punched things. Times have changed and now I care for both of them while putting my career on hold. I suppose that is grace. But there are still too many lies.
