Wow! She is incredible, I've only just discovered her music in my 30s, in the last couple of years and she's one of my favourite artists. Her beautiful and honest lyrics on love and dating still feel so poignant to life today, I have her playing on repeat! Big fan from Australia
Bettye Swanne is a floor filler at every Northern Soul venue in the UK. Her unique voice and superb delivery are timeless, we do and always will love her. Great production Chance, once again you have done this Lady proud. - well done Sir!!
Same here in another comment on another channel I shared my comment. My sisters and I played it over and over again. Then we would sing it. Both of my sisters are now deceased. RIP to them.
its a shame didnt get more recognition or money for her music one of most unsung singer with one greatest voice i ever heard this reusure me that the best sometime don't make it A DAM SHAME
It's about time somebody told the BETTYE SWANN story! Oh and it should be known that Leon Haywood played on the "Make Me Yours". He showed me the picture that included himself at the piano taken at the recording session!!!
I ALWAYS enjoy your presentations on the artists who perhaps didn't have lengthy prominent careers but who were/are great . It's also interesting to see how the Europeans embrace theses artists even now. Thanks for another show and music history lesson, Mike.
This song is one that my Mom always loved! Make Me Yours! She played it a lot! I loved that song too! She was the most under rated artist! Her music lives on! Thanks for giving us this review! 💕🎶
When I hear this song Make Me Yours it takes me back to 1967 being a teenage girl such a beautiful time and I just love this song I can listen to it everyday all day so beautiful
I first heard about Bettye Swann in that Blues and Soul interview in 1972. I bought a reissue of the Make me yours album from the Blues and Soul (Contempo) record shop in Hanway Street in my teens. Loved this documentary. Great work, Chance B
Thanks so much for making this video on Bettye Swann. I discovered Bettye over ten years ago and have listened to ever since. She could do so much with a country song. There was no one who sounded like her.
Was surprised to hear John Dolphins name. He was someone who had a very interesting life and he died mysteriously as well. The book about his life "Recorded In Hollywood: The John Dolphin Story" is a great read. Just watched Bettye Swann performing live in 2013 on a different RU-vid video.
I Love It Mr.Chancelor.What I Will Never Understand Is How Great Artist With Exceptional Voices A Lot Of Times With Bad Production Techniques Don't Make It 😔This Woman Has A Phenomenal Voice Is What Gets Me... I Love Her Music ♥️
She's tops in my book.. I could be wrong, but I believe today I started Loving you again was written by Merle Haggard and Bonnie Owens. I've heard a recording of Bettye and Buck doing that song together and it's freaking killer..... a perfect blend of their individual styles in my opinion.
I like her singing.seems like she should gone with fame or stax or Philly at some point or sooner..what a voice.make me yours was the community anthem with the girls in junior high and high school
What was so great about 60s girls was the best of them each had a unique sound. Bettye is a prime example, never a shouter, her mix of gentleness and emotion was quite singular.can today's autotuned generation say the same?
Make me yours was close to BARBRA ALKIN OR BARBRA MASON. IM SO GLAD SHE FOUND HER FANS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. THEY DIDNT FORGET HER. CHANCELLOR YOU SHOULD ALLSO DO BRENDA REID OF EXCITERS SHE STILL AROUND AND I TALK TO HER ON UTUBE. SHE ALLSO HAD GREAT MATERIAL
I'm glad she never went to Motown. Motown had talented female singers they never had any idea what to do with. Kim Weston, Brenda Holloway, Carolyn Crawford. Motown didn't develop their careers. Bettye Swann would have probably been lost in the mix at Motown.
I don't think Make Me Yours got to the 30 second mark before I became a fan! She was one hell of a singer and songwriter! John Dolphin was probably rolling in his grave when she left that company! Who else did Money Records have on their label not to promote her!? Capitol and Columbia Records were to labels R&B artist in the 60's should stay away from!!
