They make other prog bands look like radio rock, lol. They'll go down in history as one of the best prog metal bands of all time. I really believe that.
@@neilkennethofficial Idk man. I think BTBAM is the best out of the 3 personally. Love DT, but BTBAM just doesn’t have a very big fanbase for whatever reason.
On what Frank said about the emotion in their music... I wish I could break through to people, like their song Ad A Dglgmut suggests, and help them see - and feel - the incredible emotional experience that they're missing from Between The Buried And Me. It requires patience, an inquisitive and open mind, some free time (probably the hardest for us to come by these days), and.. a sincere want to listen. Maybe even a need to listen. I hope if even just one person I show a snippet of Mordecai or Selkies or Lunar Wilderness or, now, The Future is Behind Us, is able to see the beauty in the whole thing, and they'll come back for more, for the emotions it made them feel. The music is some of the most powerful, and not just because it's heavy metal.
This comment made me curious if the track list had any references to the original album. I didn't notice this on first glance, but the track "The Future is Behind Us" seems to be in line with "Prequel to the Sequel". Or maybe not, tough to say.
I still can't get over how down to earth and just genuinely nice, and caring guys that Tommy and Paul are. Really great interview, Frank! They have been my favorite band for the past 14-15 years, and I cannot see that changing in my lifetime. Cannot wait to hear the new album, peace everyone!
I'm somebody that absolutely has to listen to The Parallax I & II and Automata I & II back to back collectively as one piece. So I just want to say a big sarcastic "jee, thanks guys" to BTBAM for adding another 78 minutes on to an already 64 minute record in Colors 🤣🤣🤣🤣 So excited to hear the new record. The Kings are back and I am here for it.
Paul talking about age and time around 24:53 is so scary and true. I interviewed Tommy during the tour with Mastodon around the release of the Colors Live album. I remember asking him about his perspective on the band, his music and the future as he turns 30 (seeing as we are about the same age and at the time 30 felt "old"). Paul said exactly what I've been thinking too as someone about to turn 40... Anyway, I just hope these guys can keep the energy up for another 20 years or so. Hardest working band in metal right here
My favorite moments have always been my first listen to a new BTBAM record front to back. Usually results in uncontrollable laughing in response to the musical twist and turns these guys take me on. I find when I am laughing at music, it is the ultimate compliment on the creative and sheer musicianship these guys share with us mere mortals
Thanks for connecting me back to your guys music with this album. Colors 1 was a huge part of my life and came out right before I graduated high school. I'm 31 now and life has been a real roller coaster since then. This album brings me energy in a strange way that I can not explain. I wouldn't call myself a diehard because I haven't kept up with the other albums between. I love the musical themes connecting the albums , I've never heard that done before. Ok that's all and thanks for playing the show with HORSE the band and Animosity in Cleveland , you introduced me to the greatness that is HORSE.
I love BTBAM. They and their music have been such a positive influence for my life. Not sure if I could have made it to this point without them. Also, the fans are the best!
All the guys in btbam seem so genuine and nice and really amazing guys. I will be meeting them at vip and it's going to be the highlight of my life as a musician.
Congrats to BTBAM on the new album, and congrats to Metal Injection for being around to cover it! Can't wait to see BTBAM for the 16th(?) time in Detroit next month.
Colors was easily my fav album they ever made. I liked the ones before it a ton too but colors was some next level shit lol excited to see what they do with this one
Super amazing album. I pretty much use btbam as a gauge for time and how old I am. Favourite band for over half of my life. I can expect some salt and pepper hair soon. I’ll be early 50s hitting up a show by these late 50 year olds ; I also seem to loose merch over and over which is great for the band haha I love you guys. Wuuuuu. Come to Peterborough Ontario.
I met these guys back in 2006 and they had no problem with taking pics and talking. These guys cant be topped musically and have made me a better musician who pushes myself more and more. Ive seen them 11 times and I love everything they do. let see an alaska 2!!!
This band will go down as one of if not THE greatest of all time in prog metal. Next level band, they will be more and more appreciated as time goes on. And people catch up to their brilliance.
I'm so fucking excited for this show and the new album. TGM is my favorite album, and the only thing that could possibly make the show even better is any song off of P1. Great interview, we getting old fellas
Same! I've gone to a ton of concerts in my life but don't remember ever being this excited for a show. And I agree, I'd pee myself if they'd played anything from that, especially Augment of Rebirth
introduced to BTBAM through the Great Misdirect tour... will always be number one for me, regardless of how fuckin unbelievable colors was back then and still is now.
I’m glad I found these guys their music has changed my life and I just can’t stop listening to them. It’s like when I was binge listening Metallica when I was 15-16 amd now at 18 I’m into BTBAM. Love this band can’t wait for CII
ah man, i was 19 when Colors released. such a good record and was a massively defining piece of historic media (in my opinion) that shaped my taste in music ever since
@@NG.4769 hearing Lamb of God's Laid To Rest on the radio (for a hard rock station doing "the cage match" pitting 2 songs against each other, got me into the heavier stuff. Then getting a sirius sub and blasting liquid metal.
Hope we get another 20 years of BTBAM. I think Colors 2 is their best made album to date, and I understand the controversy on that claim based on their gem after gem of album releases. It really feels like they put together all their skills from each album. The riffs, transitions, over all flow of the album, and production where top notch. Everything makes sense and nothing feels forced or over the top.
Thanks for this interview. My favorite band of all time. Very interesting insights as to their thoughts going into the album. Can’t wait to hear it (I listened to the first 2 singles once and forcing myself to wait for the full album, but so damn hard).
I'm more than ready for ReAlaska. But seriously - I've said it before and I'll say it again - these guys are some of the hardest working guys in metal and music in general. I've been a fan since the self titled album and I've never seen more prominent musical evolution than I have with BtBaM. Their discography is so varied and unique. They are a super cool and down to Earth band that you could easily have drinks with after the show and they'd just seem like regular dudes. Bless this band, bless the fans, and I hope they keep making music for as long as they possibly can.
seen em yet? i saw them Saturday in Seattle. My soul needed that! UNREAL good. stood about 10 feet in front of Paul all nite, and lost about 10 lbs in sweat, and my neck still hurts!
I can't put into words how excited I am for the tour and Colors 2! I'll be there tonight in Atlanta! If Tommy and the guys see this, please play Naked By the Computer!
You guys are the best! We have a great fan base and it wouldn’t be possible without you dudes. Can’t wait for C2 (I pre-ordered like 3 different variants 😂 y’all always kill my wallet)
I remember seeing them 2 years ago. I witnessed songs like MOMTK and white walls... it was an incredible experience and one of the best concerts of my life.
I've seen them play songs such as All Bodies, Backwards Marathon, Ad A Dglgmut, Aspirations, Shevanel Cut a Flip, Alaska, Selkies, and a special version of Mordecai that was preceded by the Aesthetic intro into the Alaska intro into Mordecai. But the one song I've never been able to see them play is More of Myself to Kill, because the *ONE* time they played it in Nashville in 09/10, I had to miss that show because i had a hockey game that night. It was one of only two times since the Colors Live Dvd Shoot in '08 that I've ever missed them in my city. So for that I am eternally jealous of you for getting to see them play one of my favorite songs of all time (MOMTK).
*CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM* !!!! (And yeah, listening to the first 2 "singles" one after the other, they just flow, and sometimes I listen to them on loop and it just keeps going hehe, so listening to the entire album all together will be awesome!)
Best damn band in the world. Excited for the new record. Time really does fly. I'd say I can't wait for the new album, but I'm going to blink and it'll be here essentially.
In around late april I started to get really into BTBAM. Colours is my favourite album but theres no UK CD release so I'm just glad colours II is getting one
As they get older and possibly make “less heavy” music I’d be so down for a colors 3 that defines them as full prog rock band or where ever they decide to go!
Just listened to Colours 1 and 2 yesterday and today I've listened to The Great Misdirect ,Hyper sleep Dialogues,Future Sequence and Coma Ecliptic today and tomorrow I'll go listen to Alaska and Automata part 1 and 2 yo!And than on Monday I'll listen to the self titled and Silent Circus yo this band always keeps me smiling yo yeehaw! 🖤🌹🤟😎🤟🎮🤖👽🎄🎤🎼🥁🎹🎧📢🎸🎶🍺ps.These guys are the best band in the universe yo yeehaw! Than later will be The Anatomy Of album and the remix remaster of those albums yo yeehaw yo!
I wasn't sure about a colors 2 when fix the error hit it didn't give me the colors vibe although a decent single. Revolution in limbo definitely gives me the colors feel and it got me hyped for what's to come in the album
@@moriyokiri3229 Literally might have been too strong a word but metaphorically isn't right either. They play that part numerous times in Fix the Error.
A week or two ago in the middle of the night I listened to The Great Misdirect in full, since I knew they’d be playing it on the tour, and before the record was even over I found myself impulse-buying a ticket to their Nashville show. All I’d heard prior was Colors and then I got back into em after hearing the new singles, so I’m having fun familiarizing myself more before I go see them.
I have seen them many many many times over the years and they are by far one of my favorite bands to see live! Like consistently amazing every single time and seeing the great misdirect direct in full has me even more pumped!! Swim to the moon omg i cant wait!!! I am almost 42 and this shit has me excited like Christmas used to 😂😂 enjoy my friend u will come out of it a solid btbam fan for life I promise 😉
I’m disappointed that Paul didn’t give any examples. Your fan base is musically inclined. I want to know more about the writing process and the specifics.
Coma Ecliptic is good though...I'll admit when it first released I was a little disappointed, but it has grown on me so much over the years. Honestly at this point I think I prefer it over Automata.
everything they put out is amazing. i learned to not try to compare or expect anything from them, and just take each one for what it is. and i enjoy ALL of them.
I really liked Coma Ecliptic, Automata kind of bounced off me though. That said they haven't put out anything I would consider bad, the Parallax EP and LP are my personal favorites and I have a ton of good memories tied to that music, but I still go back to CE and give it a spin from time to time.
Id rather listen to 36 minutes of pure insanely riffing those cheesy interludes in every song to make them longer man these guys need to fall off the earth we support this but not what we should not be doing
I hope you’ve listened to it because it’s literally colors 2. So many callbacks while pushing forward more than previous releases. Paul is definitely trying not to spoil the surprises here
It wasn't that they felt like they "need another landmark album" it is that they felt like they were in another point in their career where this album was either going to hit and hit hard, or they might not have the energy to continue. There is a lot with this album that ties it back to Colors. There are lyrics, motifs, riffs, pacing, etc. that all tie back to the old album while still being entirely its own thing. This album is a clear path forward standing on the building blocks of the original album. If you haven't listened to it yet and you are a fan of Colors, go back and listen to the first album, then give it a spin. You will be pleasantly surprised at how much they tie together.
