I love how BTBAM can still make me shake my head while smiling from ear to ear thinking: "How did they just combine all these styles and made it work".
I was lucky enough to see them open for Dillinger Escape Plan in Chicago in 2005. I never imagined they’d get this good. I’m from Alaska, so I was biased from the get go. The step between Alaska and Colors was mind blowing. They haven’t stopped since then. I put this song in the tip top tier with Ants of the Sky and the Ectopic Stroll. What other band can marry Mr. Bungle with Queen? True technicians and great song writers.
BTBAM are seriously one of the greatest bands out there. Wouldn't say the best because music is subjective, but analyzed from various objective points like quality of playing, perseverance, evolution, passion, composition... they are the top (not alone, but at the top for sure).
Not best for sure. Lyrically they are pretty weak and always have been. But imo you can argue the instrumentally they are best (i would argue for Yes as well)
Blake Richardson continues to evolve and become a better drummer which is mind blowing. Such a great drummer who writes great drum parts. Also his Tama starclassic bubinga hyperdrive drums sound amazing on this album and they are the best sounding drums I’ve ever heard live.
Yes my friend, he is an absolute beast. I have loved Tama for years, and seeing them recently, as you said, it was a shockingly amazing live drum sound. Totally blew me away. This whole band is top notch on every level. I am a guitar nerd too so I get to geek out on all of their gear.
They have spectatular taste in gear. Grew up on an Ibanez S Series long before I discovered Paul favoured them (eventually scoring himself a badass custom based off the S series). The sound of Blake's Sabian Holy China on Specular Reflection from Parallax I... fucking hell... And they play like goddamn machines live, no other band inspires so much awe in me
I also like use of cymbals ...little bit of jazz and "less is more" techniques instead of constant double bass and speed. He's proven to be "all around".
Saw them play last night at House of Blues in Houston. They finished the set with this track. So amazing and mentally exhausting witnessing this level of complexity and precision played live at full volume. What an experience.
My manager at work like Rush, Greatful dead and lotta classic rock....but he is a stubbourn ass...I'll post my guess reaction about this "meh yeah not bad."
Jef Whitehead come at me with a legitimate argument on how this and btbam arent metal instead of making fourth grade level insults against someone with a different opinion lmao
As soon as anyone else in this world could make music like this. So... Never. There's no debate after this album (but really colors) that they're the best prog band alive
When you're a prog metal fan and a BTBAM fan and you are used to madness but damn you didn't see it coming. This song was just mindblowing to me...I'd never expect something like this...thank you for existing.
M OC ah yes because playing music other than in standard 4/4 time and being creative (as is the case with prog) is clearly wankery lol. Nothing about this track is wankery. Malmsteen and Petrucci stuff can be Wankery and I say that as a fan of both but this is definitely not wank lol. You don't like it that's cool. PS: At least BTBAM have progressed as a band over the years instead of playing the same shit for the last 30 plus like Slayer has. I also say that as a 20 year fan of Slayer as well.
I cant even begin to say how fucking awesome this song is. I was laughing during this track at how good it is. Just listened to the whole album and im super happy and cant stop smiling. Thanks BTBAM! Cant wait to see you July 27th!
BTBAM is basically the only band where I laugh uncontrollably when hearing a new album for the first time. They are all just so good that it's ridiculous
as a huge "diablo swing orchestra" fan, this tickle my itch for jazz metal. it's boring when one band has a monopoly on one of the genre that has the most potential. i think i'll start digging this band a bit deeper to find out if it was just a one time thing or if they did multiple songs like this.
this song is just flat out cheesy. i love every other song on aut1 and 2....this will be removed from my playlist for sure though....you enjoy it if you like it bro, thats what its all about...
@@disres1337 Yeah, I'm pretty sure everybody considers them prog, but you can get a lot more specific with prog, (prog death, prog power etc) and this is where it becomes hard to classify btbam
Wow. I'm still sittin here in amazement at what I just heard! They are such a versatile band and they never cease to amaze me! Whatever I just heard I loved it! Definitely playing this one back again! 😁✌One Love
I used to love BTBAM. I still do.. but I used to, too. Srsly tho, They rlly capture man's chaotically structured minds in the form of music. I enjoy all forms of bands, especially when I'm out & about. But BTBAM is my personal favorite. They really can create a theme & I get this obscure relatability. It's just encapsulating. It's like a uniquely written story
This song make me think about Trepalium anf his Moonshine Limbo! Some kind of "swing & charleston& metal"...and so much more....2 of my favorite and creative bands!
The Ectopic Stroll is one of my favourite songs in Coma Ecliptic because it sounds so different and I love the carnival vibe it has going on. So this song just does it for me again. Coma Ecliptic is my favourite BTBAM album and although I really enjoyed Automata I, I think I'm liking II a bit more, since it has a sound more simillar to Coma Ecliptic. Anyways, can't wait to see these guys live with Tesseract and Plini!
Amazing piece of music from btbam once again. After a few listens of automata 2 I'm loving it. Memories of the colors album live gig at the underworld Camden in London still my favourite gig ever. Come back to the UK and I'll be there.
It's seriously amazing how fresh material this guys still put out. I'ts their ninth/tenth album and they are still making unique, crazy, heavy, beatiful and worth to listen music. They have so much years ahead as a band. I really hope they continue like this for many many years more.
Sometimes I find it hard to believe that a band can be this interesting to listen to for so long. They have been my favorite band since 2006 and they have not gotten boring.
Literally the best at whatever they choose to do. My socks got blown off and now they're in a different area code. It should straight up illegal to make music this good. If I was driving, I would 100% have crashed just because of how stunned I was... Think of the children and families, btbam.
D It's normal don't want to listen to anything else, after this? It's normal not feel the same way before??? Those guys must be somewhere out of this damn world man... I'm telling you guys... It must be something on the water they drink! But what is it?!
k r You've spent a lot of time in this comment section trashing BTBAM. Did you know BTBAM and DTP have actually toured together? Multiple times? Sometimes DTP even OPENED for BTBAM? I think they're pretty good friends. Hey since you know Devin so well why don't you go ask him what he thinks of this song?
I heard the song you sent, and I really don't see the "rip-off". Diablo Swing Orchestra is also a thing, did they rip off Devin? I also listen to Mr Bungle, so being a "wacky", genre defying, experimental band is the sole idea of Mike Patton and his side project from the 80s and 90s? I'd suggest listening to Parallax 2 and Coma Ecliptic for some incredibly unique musical experiences....but it seems you already know everything there is to know about music and BTBAM's discography. Obvious troll is obvious.
I saw this live in Guelph. Best song of the night. The hairs on my arms made perfect 90 degree angles from my skin. Amazing. Outdone yourselves guys. I actually paid for my ticket twice to see this! Haha
I love how the first part always makes me happy and creates the urge to dance around like an idiot. Then the last 3 minutes are so sinister and bleak, the "We are hollow..condemned to the gallows" part always gives me chills.
I feel this is a good use of mixing different genres to create different moods throughout the course of the song. Not sure I'd listen to it all the time, but I'm glad I heard it.
