In a four-week summer series, Adult Education at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis is exploring what happens between the Older Testament and the Newer Testament. This is part two and it focuses on the books of The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Diversity of Judaism.
The discovery of a vast collection of ancient documents near the Dead Sea in the 1940s transformed our understanding of what Judaism was like around the time of Jesus. What do these writings from a sectarian community reveal about how ancient Jews practiced their faith, the issues they disagreed about, and the future they hoped for? How do these writings encourage us to respect the diverse beliefs and expressions of Judaism we encounter in the Newer Testament?
