Meanwhile poor Judge Reinhold and John Ashton had to keep it together long enough to get through that scene (John Ashton with his patented “pinch your nose and squint down at your shoes” move 😂).
Murphy was on fire during this time, probably one of the most watchable actors ever, he was just so likeable and his comic timing and feel was as good as anyone.
Was. Gil hill is dead. He was also corrupt as all hell. Involved in drug trafficking. We the story of Rick Wershie junior. Wershie was a drug dealer who turned FBI informant and it uncovered Hills involvement in the drug trafficking of Detroit through his niece and other family members. Hill was able to use his political power and friendship with judges to keep Wershie in jail for 30 years despite deals the FBI made with wershie in which he should have received immunity from prosecution in exchange for testimony. There is both a documentary and a feature film about the story.
Ah yes, Beverly Hills Cop 2. My favorite. And one of those rare exceptions to the rule, "Sequels are always worse than the original.". Also, "How the f**k do you steal a house?!?" - ALWAYS loved that line! It always makes me think, "If anyone COULD do it, Axel would (and did) find a way.".
Emily could rent herself out as a movie-watching companion. Honestly, I've watched movies with people who I'm not sure haven't lapsed into some sort of cataleptic state. But, shoot, Emily was laughing even before you started the movie. The opening was priceless: "Here's my opening pose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Very cute. Another thing about Emily is that she gets every freaking joke...EVERY ONE. And that includes a lot of stereotypical or sexual jokes that I find funny, which offend a lot of huffy reactors I don't visit anymore. I mean, just enjoy the movie. Can't wait for the next one. What's Emily like after a cup of coffee? Just wonderin' :)
Emily's reactions on this one were all just fantastic. What a great movie. And say what you will, Beverly Hills Cop 3 is still better than most of what passes for blockbuster comedy these days.
One of my favorite moments is still a good pop culture reference today. When Billy is driving the cement truck and Axel says, “Are you driving with your eyes open, or are you, like, using the Force?”
A couple of things: 1) Judge Reinhold is great. Saw him at Dragon Con a few years ago and he tells fantastic stories. At the Dragon Con Walk-of-Fame I paid for a pic with him and the first attempts did not turn out that great. Judge looked at it and told me "My wife is going to be back in about 10 minutes, she is a professional photographer, come back here and she will take it for you." It was REALLY nice of him to do that. 2) I am impressed with Emily's ability to NOT giggle when she describes herself as the TITular first timer because I do.
Originally they cast Stalone to play Axle in the first one. He kept changing the script to make it more action and less comedy. So they let him go. Stalone later used his idea's for the movie Cobra. Having Brigitte Nielsen and Axle laughing at the Cobra movie poster were jabs at stalone.
I just like the fact that Axel became friends with Bogomil, Taggart, and Billy after the events of the first film and everything he did this time was all in the name of helping all 3 of them, especially Bogomil.
Of the 3 movies, this is my favorite. The 1st was great, but this movie polished a few elements that just elevated it to the greatness it is now. If you don't already know, the bazooka instructions is a real thing on military weaponry; it is not a movie add-on for comedy sake.
10:58 instead of "ti dd ies!", we got "bo oty!" And the Monique and Unique line has stuck with me for decades, always cracked me up, but it's been so damn long since I saw the movie that I couldn't remember where the line came from! 🤣🤣🤣 (Edited for youtube's garbage algorithm...)
Even though Part 1 had the better script, I prefer Part 2 because it's '80s AF. In fact, I often use Part 1 & 2 to demonstrate the difference between Early 80s (Late Stage '70s) and Late 80s (the neon-glow New Wave holodeck everybody thinks the 80s was) because apparently anyone who wasn't there thinks the decade was KUNG FURY with Russians.
One of the VERY few sequels that didn’t suck. Also inspector Todd was played by Gill hill who later became a Detroit city council member ( president I think)
Just FYI, Axel Foley's boss Inspector Todd was actually a real life law enforcement officer with the Detroit Police department ( Gil Hill ) he actually became an Inspector within the department and retired with the rank of Commander in 1989 and became active in city politics before passing in 2016 at the age of 84.
I must be wired as I don’t mind part 3, it’s no where close to being as good as 1 & 2but I enjoy it. It tried to hard to be more comedy then action and PG friendly.
Was just gonna say the same thing about BHC-3 being really silly and dumb. Sadly, it was nothing like the first two and it's a completely different animal.
3 Isn't all that bad the problem that I have with it it took away everything that made Axel great where was the cons where was this he became I guess the way it is as if he just became older and more wiser the whole concept of the movie of him going after inspector Todd's killer I actually like that aspect of it
Just stumbled across your channel today and I've already started binge watching your reactions. You guys are great! You'll be at 100K subs before you know it. #subscribed 👍 Side note: Please do not subject your wife to that abomination called *Beverly Hills Cop 3* 🤫 Enough people have suffered 😟 😂🤣😂
Just found your channel, subscribed. Have never laughed at a reaction like this before. Emily, you're hilarious. All the best from 🏴🇬🇧. Tiddies. 🤣, gets me every time
Oh my dear sweet goodness gracious, Cinima Toast Crunch made me laugh entirely too loudly for this time of the morning. Good job to whomever suggested that one! Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't eat that stuff. It cuts my mouth up too. The wife and kids love it though. This is another great one. I hope yall have a great day.
So sad, i was hoping for part 3 after this, there is one special character returning that i loved. Btw, another great racehorse name is "Soon-To-Be-Glue", especially calling it while it is falling behind, coming around the corner, getting into the last round and after the race getting back into Uncle Elmer's truck.
I know you did this reaction last year... but I am just now watching it. But since I am here watching your Beverly Hills Cop 2 reaction... I wanted to tell you two... they are filming Beverly Hills Cop 4 right now (Yes.. all these years later! lol) ... Should be GREAT!! Just letting you know tho :)
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this. I forgot how much fun it is. I will say that Emily’s reactions really add to the experience. Thanks guys for a fun time! Gilbert Godfry has a fun part in The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. Of course, it may be hard to find. A funny story about Ronnie Cox. My nieces had a doll that resembled Ronnie Cox at the End of Deliverance (I won’t specify in case you haven’t seen it-another Burt Reynolds flick, btw). The doll was named Ronnie.
Another great 80's Eddie Murphy cop/buddy film is 48 hours with Nick Nolte (back when Nick was relatively sane). If you've seen it, please put it on your re-watch list if it isn't already. Great reviews you two! Love the new sign, soo Emily! :)
This is my favorite of the BHC movies. Eddie Murphy was so funny in this & his chemistry with Judge Reinhold & John Ashton was gold. The fact that they spend the majority of the film together makes it fun. And that soundtrack! For me, it's a feel-good movie.
The actor that played Inspector Todd was actually a detective with the Detroit Police. He later went on to become Chief of Police for the Detroit Police.
Other Eddie Murphy movies worth checking out for the “First Time Film Club”: “48 Hrs.” (1982), “The Golden Child” (1986), “Harlem Nights” (1989), “Boomerang” (1992), “The Nutty Professor” (1996), “Life” (1999), and “Dolemite Is My Name” (2019)
Re: 3:50 and garden hoses. I've seen that Full Metal Jacket is on Emily's list. Very much looking forward to that one and her inevitable jaw hitting the floor reactions to Gunny. Presumably Matthew has seen it?
OMG! So happy you guys are continuing the franchise! But you cut out my favorite joke from the first one!..... In the locker room, "anyone ever told you, you look like a struck match"? Lol. Edgy Murphy is the best at adlib!
between Aliens, Mad About You, and Beverley Hills Cop, Paul Reiser (Axel's buddy in Detroit) has range. Also, we remember Monique and Unique, but forgot all about Boutique.
This has to be the Best of the Beverly Hills Cop series. Billy's gun fetish and the rocket launcher, were Fantastic. As for the cement truck.... 😂😂😂😂😜😜
Another movie with Brigitte Nielsen I would suggest is Cobra. It's an action movie with Silvester Stallone. She plays more of a damsel in distress. They were actually married at the time it was filmed. Stallone was originally going to be in Beverly Hills Cop but wanted it to be a more action oriented than comedy oriented. He gave the script a dramatic rewrite but paramount thought his ideas would be too expensive. The screenplay for Cobra was originally conceived from ideas he had during pre-production of Beverly Hills Cop
Glad you enjoyed it! You can STOP right here. No need to check out the 3rd one. TRIVIA TIME! The bit about Rosewood's vitamins was added into the script, as Judge Reinhold was really on a health-kick at the time of filming. In fact, he had consumed so much carrot juice during the shoot, that his skin actually turned orange!
I could be wrong, but her husband seems like a really introverted person. What make's this channel amazing is her ( I'm sorry I'm new so I am not caught up on her name, and this is 100% not anything about Matthew because I actually like him too) is her electric personality. Keep it coming guy's. I love it.
As other people have said, other good Eddie Murphy films is ‘48 hours’ and the sequel ‘Another 48 hours’. Also another good Judge Reinhold (Billy) film is ‘Ruthless People’.
Eddie Murphy playing a good guy playing a bad guy playing a good guy playing a bad guy is so delicious it makes me think what could have been if he was casted for *training day.*
