The soundtrack was over engineered and over synth-waved. Faltermeyer's original 1984 score used less than 5 instruments beautifully produced and recorded by him . Its power was its understated simplicity. Adding every single 1980s synth sound you can find to an orchestra and choir shows a lack of understanding of the music and movie genre.

The Real MVP of Beverly Hills Cop 4 was and still is: Jerry Bruckheimer! The fact that this movie worked AT ALL is the Hail Mary🏈 of all sequels. This sequel shouldn't have worked for coming up short but effectively made the story coherent and well controlled. I understand this was one of Jerry's first major blockbuster so he knew he had to personally be involved in order for this film to work. What's so touching before the start of the film: he still credits his closest friend Don Simpson as co-producer even after his passing 30 years later. God Bless You Jerry...and Eddie Murphy, too! 😎😁

Watched this recently with my partner and we were both pleasantly suprised by just how good it was and felt at home with the previous films. As someone born in 1980 seeing this was a real treat. It had all the right humor, action, characters, writing, and even the music fit perfectly. It made me feel like a kid again watching the first films for the first time. Even the whole idea of police corruption working with the cartels is totally relevant to today's society in the USA. I don't even have a copy of the first films in my collection, and I want this one to add to it. I didn't expect that Netflix to be able to pull it off like they did. I would definitely rank it as one, if not the best film of this year.

All returning characters in this movie get their time to shine, and the new characters don't steal Axel's fire. There's no bait-and-switch here, this is very much Eddie Murphy's movie!
