I love how they kept an all 80s musical score, in it's original form, throughout the entire movie. And the jokes werent forced. It was a fun watch.

I was pleasantly surprised that Gordon-Levitt's character didn't magically overcome his past trauma and become an ace pilot simply because the plot needed him to. I assumed this tired trope from the minute Murphy made fun of him "not cutting it."

2:11 well even before that he tried to revive beverly hills cop as a TV show that focused on Axel's son and had already shot the unaired pilot. The reason why CBS didn't pick up the show was because executives thought that Murphy was gonna be in the entire series but in actuality he was only gonna be in the pilot. The unaired pilot can be found on the internet archive and pieces of it can be found on RU-vid.

Growing up in the 80s, I have always argued that the 80s were the best decade for comedies (not counting the early days of cinema, like the 1930s and 40s). I used to say that the 80s were the best in all forms of cinema. However, now that I'm older and I have studied more films, the 70s had amazing cinema, especially in drama and sci-fi. And of course, the 90s were great for independent film (and dumb action movies...which I love).
@69johndz

@@lunavioleta001 The 80s were a weird decade. For example, you have all of these sentimental movies (like Steven Spielberg) and classic teen comedies (like John Hughes). I love them and think they are classics. My daughter now loves them too as do many young people. However, there are also many people that think those movies are just fluffy-garbage without any substance. I disagree with them but, looking back, I can see their point.

As a hefty dose of nostalgia, I liked it. It felt entirely unnecessary to me though and was way too late to try and bring back these characters. I don't feel like it ever really truly recaptured the magic. It's like one of those delicious five star dinners at whatever high priced restaurant when you get it to go, then you take it home and a day later try to reheat it. Sure it's the same food, but it's just not the same, something's not quite right. BHC 1 and 2 are among my favorite films of the 80s. There was a subtle dig at his 94 outing and how it wasn't received so well at one point in the movie, broke the 4th wall a little and that was funny but, yeah, I'd lump this in with 94.

Yeah BHC 4 Axel F is a return to why we all fell in love with the films as a whole as well as the Axel Foley character, good jokes, one liners, quick wits. Also pretty intriguing detail story about one of the task force behind the cop murder and distribution of drugs for the cartel.

It does to me😂 I like it even the dumb parts in the plot and writing. Better than much of what we get now!

Excellent review, Dan. Pretty consistent and a very tough nut to crack - could have done with more laughs but probably much better than could reasonably be expected.

I’m a HUGE movie lover/fanatic and aspiring actress. I’ve already watched 21 new movie releases in the movie theater this year including Maxxxine which was my most highly anticipated movie of the year. This was another good movie review. I would love for you to rank the Beverly Hills Cops franchise and review and rank the Despicable Me and T. I. West trilogy since they all have new movie releases this year. ❤❤❤❤

I thought it was a solid, entertaining film, but only two things would've improved it: Eddie bringing back his trademark sealion laugh (he doesn't do that anymore) and a little less use of the Axel F theme. I counted at least four different versions.

Did you notice the references to all the movies? That weren’t from Beverly Hills cops

I enjoyed it! For some reason, I feel like the 80s/90s big stars are actually just as good or better during this phase of their lives.

I really enjoyed it. A lot of people seem very mixed, but it felt like an 80s movie time traveled to today and that's what we got. Eddie Murphy has some legit laugh out loud moments and the lady playing his daughter is really acting well in it. It was pretty basic and you could tell the bad guy immediately, but hey sometimes a straightforward story is ok Hell, even the establishing shots and color grading are straight from the 80s

I think everyone knew Keven bacon was the bad guy the moment you saw his name during the credits. I mean he was so obviously the bad guy he was like I don't care if everyone knows lol

Even Axel calls him out as a probably dirty cop immediately after meeting him, based on his expensive shoes.

I thought this did a great job of aging characters… it wasn’t over the top. It stayed in the spirit but was fair to the cynical stuff that would def creep in.

Huge fan of this franchise! I’ve watched this twice now and you’re spot on about how this movie is not trying to reinvent the main characters to fit the time but rather have the exact same characters navigate through this very different time. You can just feel how Eddie, John, Judge & even Bronson slipped right back into their characters like an old pair of slippers! There was only 1 thing I was hoping to at least hear (or see) & Axcel only mentioned this once - who is Jane’s mother? Janice from BHC3 ?? - after all she was about to take him to the ‘tunnel of love’ at the end of the movie 🤪

I enjoyed the movie too but there was one little thing that caught my eye a few times. It may have just been me, but did anyone else notice some odd framing on some of the closeups? I noticed that quite a bit of the top of peoples heads were cut off due to framing. Didn't take anything away from the movie, just felt a little too close lol

I also noticed that, part of it was Netflix auto zoomed in on my phone but even towards the end and zoomed out Foley's head was partially cut off at points
