As a Z Fold 4 user, I actually like the narrow outside screen, being able to one hand most basic tasks easily is great, and for me, the fact that watching video on the outer screen isnt so great is actually a pro, its helped me reduce my phone usage when out and about but knowing when I have time to sit back and watch a video I get an even bigger screen is great. Having said that some apps and web pages dont scale so well so its defo a phone I think people should try in person before buying, or buy from a store with a good return policy just in case its not for you.

Had my Z Fold 5 for 3 days now - replaced a Pixel 7 Pro. Loving the form factor, even after all the users saying they hate the thin cover display. I have tiny hands and can type better on my ZF5 than I can on my P7P.

I like the z fold form factor, it's like you are holding a small phone, very easy on one hand use.. I am a big guy with huge hands and i have no problems with the front screen.. I have older iphones before and typing back then is not even an issue

Different style devices for different users. Personally I think the smaller outer screen makes more sense in terms of encouraging people to utilize the beautiful inner display. That being said most people realistically wanna be able to get things done with the outer display and then when they need the larger screen they can open it.

Depends your needs. Some people don't need 3 open apps or s pen. Some people with the ultra don't always use the pen but like having in case they need it. Just like the pixel it's nice to have the option to open when needed.

@Super-c00n I prefer the ZFold over the Pixel. I appreciate my phone not unnecessarily overheating, my phone actually opening flat, the better call quality and battery life. And lastly, I like the photos that come from the Samsung over the Pixel, which to me is wild to even say. But true. I also appreciate the slimmer bezels inside. I have no issues with the outside screen for quick tasks.

@@daa5014- Okay, I appreciate those examples you gave. You're right, you did say that you prefer the Z Fold over the Pixel Fold. I typed Pixel Fold in my first response, by mistake. I mistyped, that's my bad. The Z Fold 4 was my daily for about eight months, but I sold it recently. I was thinking about getting the Pixel Fold, but I will probably import the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 instead.

The pixels don't overheat they get warm, but that's not overheating. Secondly, the pixel phone not folding flat actually is going to mean that the screen is going to last way longer than a z-fold 5. Which if you look at Reddit the z fold 5 or 4 or 3 or 2 isn't holding up at all. The photos from the Samsung don't look better which pretty much everybody in the industry has said. I get you preferring the Samsung. But you still got to be fair in your analysis. I love in Texas and the z fold 5 and the pixel get equally as hot. We got to stop these narratives. The Samsung screens are already breaking and it's all over the internet. The pixel screens aren't doing that. You can pick the Samsung but I'm going for quality! And a better user experience! Also pixel phones get better over time. Samsung phones generally stay in the same place as launch!

@TaureanSmoke we'll have to agree to disagree. The Pixel constantly got "warm" in my hands or just sitting idle for no reason. I don't care who makes the phone. That's a no go for me right out of the gate. The samsung is a more mature foldable due to their time in the space. That's just a fact. The Snapdragon will hold up much longer than that Tensor, I'll promise you that. And the lack of optimization currently for the Pixel is nonexistent. But you do you, I'll stick with my ZFold.

I bought the Pixel Fold love it I have Z Fold 3 for 2 years now on the shelf . The Pixel Fold is getting 7 hours of screen on time running Android 14 beta. And a day half battery the improvements are awesome plus other software changes.

The Fold's outside screen is perfect. The phone is meant to be opened. That's the phone. The front screen is a bonus to get things done quickly.. I have big hands and have 0 issue typing on it. The pixels bezels on the inside screen look like something from 2015

I'm loving my first fold 5. I kinda like the narrow screen perfect for a quick text, quick to just check bank account, and viewing notifications with 1 hand. When i want to watch TV, RU-vid or write or something, i just open it up. Only issue, from my old galaxy s21 ultra to this, the camera is noticable worse oddly enough. I miss my s21u camera. But loving the change

My favorite Android phone is still the Pixel 4xl, or Nexus 6P. But this is easily my the most I've spent using my phone per day. I seem to watch around 7-8hr of screen on time while watching movies in the background while working.

I've used the Z Fold 4 for a year. Z Fold is for those who want a small tablet that can fold up when needed. Pixel Fold is for those who want a phone that can unfold into a small tablet when wanted. As someone who only uses their phone folded around 15% of the time, I love the narrow Fold. The very few times I'm using it one-handed, it is king. The moment I bust out a second hand, I am unfolding it. That is why I bought the thing.

With few compromises, I can use the Pixel Fold however I want, but I see the Galaxy Fold as having to open to get stuff done. I do not want to pay $1800 to be forced to open my device. I can still use the Pixel Fold 95% inner display, but I do not have to. Common sense dictates that Google got that element right, as being forced to use anything is anti-consumer.

I've owned both, but went with the Pixel. Transitioning from using an Iphone felt much easier. I can recommend the Z Fold 5, but for me the amount of inbuilt apps and customisation, I found it overwhelming.

While I really like the overall size and layout of the Pixel, I would choose the Galaxy Z Fold 5 as well. So many apps misbehave on the Pixel Fold's display, making the larger display less valuable. Samsung have multitasking and forcing apps to play nice figured out. They also have a use case for any purpose. Phone mode, tablet mode, tablet with pen mode, and DeX. No question, it empowers you to do more than the Pixel Fold could.

Non of the tech RU-vidrs seem to get the benefits of the Fold's aspect ratio. Don't think of it as a normal phone that folds to a small tablet, think of it one handed phone that folds into two handed phone. Then it makes perfect sense.

I use the Pixel Fold, and it is much easier to use one-handed closed than my Galaxy Fold 4 as the Galaxy was too tall and made it very difficult to reach the top of the display. But let's cut to the point, most Galaxy users claim to use the Galaxy with the display open, so the one-handed excuse is irrelevant.

This is the truth. I was so happy to go from pixel 2xl to 6pro. So disappointed. I don't trust Google with their hardware - maybe I had a lemon, but my wife is still having bad experience with her p6. I went to s23 ultra and I'm going to get her an s23 soon enough. The fold Mobiles are meant for you to use the bigger inside screen. What's the point if the outer screen is as big as a normal mobile. Why will I open the inner screen then.

Pixel fold screen brightness is not 1200 nits. Its 1450. Still not bright enough. I compare all phones to my 14 pro max and that 2000 nits is sweet. Also anroid 14 beta vastly improved my pixels battery life. I use the inside screen 90% of the time and still get 6-8 hours screen on time.

Those 2000 nits cap out after like 10 min due to overheating where's most phones at 1600-1750 don't.

@@jamescassar5348 That is how you are supposed to use max brightness, as using 2000 nits continuously will heat the phone up as it has no active cooling. Any case just turn away from the sun if you want to use for longer!

The tensor chips are just off the shelf Exynos chips from Samsung rebranded, which is why you hear the Pixel having the exact same problems as the issues that plague the Exynos powered Galaxy devices.. - Overheating - Poor battery efficency - Poor GPU performance when pushing moderately demanding graphically intensive tasks.

If you get an excellent Tensor chip, then it will be fine and age well, although, of course, it is a 2022 chip competing with the best 2023 chip, so without stating the obvious, it will not be as good as the Galaxy Fold, but the Tensor 2 will be as good as 95% of Android phones doing the rounds. So ignore the hate, people want to justify their choice, and they use the chip as a stick to hit Google with.

@@andyH_England the year number has absolutely nothing to do with it. Last year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also outperforms the latest Tensor chip across all areas. The problem here is Pixel apologists trying to defend their beloved device when the ironic thing about this is that as mentioned previously the Tesnor Chip is actually a variant of the poorly performing Exynos so any attack on the the "Tensor Chip" is actually an attack on Samsung and not Google. Let's try to use some common sense here.

I think the point of Pixel Fold is when you use more the outer screen and occassional inside screen. While the Samsung is the opposite. We have different way of using the phones as it's unique to our personal choices. I like the Samsung's because of the one handed typing I can do.

I have both and the Pixel and the Pixel's outer screen is much easier to type on, than the ZF5. However brightness wise the ZF5 is way brighter (& doesn't heat up). Pixel cameras better, battery life too early to tell. I have used the Pixel Fold as daily driver for over one month and am likely to switch to the ZF5. The phone feels more robust and is lighter and easier to view outside. And you have the S Pen & the Samsung customisation. The PF feels awful with Twitter and IG on the inside. I think passport is way to go, but Samsung is still better overall.

I recently bought the Pixel Fold, and it's been an excellent choice-so much so that I'm already considering getting a second one. It's nearly perfect in design and functionality, outperforming the Samsung Fold in several ways. One major advantage is the usability of the external screen on the Pixel, which I find myself using quite often, unlike the outer display on the Samsung Fold. The constant need to open the Samsung just to use it became tiresome, but that's not an issue with the Pixel Fold. It's a game-changer!

When he says trucking out screens, Samsung from what I have seen is the only foldable that changes screens from the cover display to inner display, the rest... pixel fold, xiaomi mix fold, oppo find n 2 etc...

Great review. As i have said in comments with other reviewers, i have had probably every S and foldable model except the z fold 3. I offloaded my z fold 4 and i am no rocking the Pixel Fold. It is a bit challenging since i have been in the samsung universe for so long. Having said that, i decided to ditch samsung for the same reason i ditched apple many years ago. I like innovation. Samsung has consistently pushed out the same folding device with a few minor tweaks each year and i am bored to death with that, just as i was bored with Iphones. I had to look at my z fold 4 objectively and i came to the conclusion that i hate the cover screen and i was forced to use the inner display more than i wanted to. I like the form factor of the pixel fold and it just feels more natural in the hand when its opened or closed. I like having the larger bezels cause i don't have as many accidental touches like i did on the z fold 4. Yes i miss the customization samsung provides but i am hoping this will be addressed with future updates. People often complain about the camera on the pixel fold, but what i realized is the Pixel fold pics are scary accurate and i found myself accustom to that over saturation and processing of samsung photos. When i would take selfies with the z fold, the pics would look better because they seem to be photoshop but the Pixel tends to show the truth and " i cant handle the truth" lol. Over all, i give google an A- for their first attempt at a foldable. I think they did a far better job than samsung with the original Galaxy Fold.

I hate the pixel software restrictions it's trash cause you can't fully customize the phone to your liking. Like Samsung and one plus UI give you a free for all to do what you want with the phone. Can't do anything with the pixel your stuck and it sucks

Ehhhh i have the pixel fold. So far i really enjoy it. Though i do have gripes about the pixel fold 😅 speakers are pretty disappointing! Battery life isn't as bad as everybody complains about it being. I can get 8 hours without the Android 14 beta. Charging speeds is another gripe. It's a fun device, the device does get pretty warm often, screen brightness is also a major bummer! But I am considering returning it tomorrow to get the fold 5 im not going to lie. I'll definitely miss the outer screen on the Pixel fold. But the overall experience with the galaxy fold is just better!!! Being speakers, battery life,brightness, customization. 😅

Slim and tall cover display is underrated. Content these days is vertical scrolling so taller is better. It's super easy to grip in one hand, which is useful when you're carrying $2,000 in your hand. It's easy to type on one-handed. I appreciated it on my Fold 4 and continue to appreciate it on my Fold 5. The UDC on the inner display is similarly underrated/misunderstood. You're not taking selfies with the inner camera, you're making video calls, for which it's more than adequate (often the best looking in a video call relative to others on their laptops). If you want to take selfies, use the cover camera or use the primaries + cover preview. No bezels and no holepunch is a great experience with a perfectly acceptable tradeoff with the UDC. Software on the Z Fold is unmatched. It's literally what makes a folding phone enjoyable in spite of Android's shortcomings and lazy developers (including Google, whose apps are still generally poorly executed on foldables).

Im both a google fan (had all the nexus devices and lots of pixels including 7 pro) and a samsung fan (S devices since S3, all notes and fold 3-5) so i have no dog in this fight. That said the only thing the pixel fold has over the fold 5 is the outer screen and slightly better zoom camera. I think Google was also out of their minds charging Fold 5 money for a device equipped with a year old chip that certainly was not flagship level even a yesr ago.

i went from the z fold 4 to the google fold,i didn’t see a big difference between the fold 4 and 5 thats why i got the google fold and man that outer screen makes a big difference and i like the google software as well.

Been using the Pixel Fold for 6 weeks and and I love it. People are wowed when I open the screen and show them photos of recent trips or Google Maps. Thay being said the Samsung looks like an awesome alternative and I'd probably enjoy it as well

If the mate X3 had native google services and 5g it would kill both the fold 5 and pixel fold absolutely. I would have jumped on one day 1!

I don't know why reviewers always complains about the outer display on the galaxy.. I been using it since it came out .. and I have no problem typing.. it's way easier the pixel which a friend of mine has ..I have to stretch my fingers to type on the pixel !!

I'm coming up on an upgrade, and am leaning more towards Pixel Fold. I know the Samsung is more powerful and the editing features are nice and it's gallery, but that's small outer screen is just not for me, plus I want to be able to get updates for Android when they come out. As long as the pixel fold still handles Pokemon GO and Minecraft, ill be fine. Its that or the Galaxy S 23 Ultra.

I was where you're at now and i ended up getting the s23 ultra. Big mistake. The thing is a monolith. I ended up getting a dead pixel and used that as an excuse to get the fold and then resell the s23 ultra once the pixel is fixed. Trust me, you have to drive it to realize how good it is. You end up unfolding it way more than people iwth the pixel but when you dont it is amazing one handed. Then you have two hands so you just unfold it and it is a dream to use. I already dont think I can go back to non folding

While I like both of these devices, I got the Z Fold 5 instead. The phone size and aspect ratio is not really an issue for me. I also have pretty smalls hand so typing from the outside screen with two hands is definitely easy for me. Software on Samsung is solid, you can definitely tell that it's well put together. I can't wait to see Google's next Fold edition though to see how much it will improve.

I own the Fold 5 and I absolutely love it. I constantly use it over my 14 pro ( I did the same with my pixel 7 pro). But if I could change few things, it would be the cover screen and one UI. But otherwise, absolutely a beast

I have the pixel fold and i do really enjoy it. I have a 14 pro max as my backup phone and I had the fold 3 before that. I think the fold 5 is an awesome phone and i would suggest that before the pixel because the pixel is so new and the first edition.

The Samsung Fold 5 is extremely usable one handed. I almost never open it. Reviewers are blowing the shape WAY out of proportion. I almost went with the Pixel, but, 1). The Google Files app cannot connect to and manage network file shares. That's silly. 2). The Pixel has no display out while Samsung has Dex. I don't use it often, but it's great when I do. 3). Googles Stock Android has no way to create folders inside the app drawer. Again, silly. Get the Fold 5. It's a better phone with a better version of Android.

I never had any issue with my pixel fold ,its never overheated ,the battery is very good and the camera is super excellent.all the bs and backlash i listened on social to discourage and pushing people not buy it,that wasnt true.of course samsung is good at it,to brainwash the mindsets of some people.for me its the perfect phone,better design ,much compatible and comfortable to typehandwritten

I know pixel fold users thar barely use the inner screen... Isn't that what you're paying used car money for? To use the big screen? People say they'd rather have the choice to open when they want to, but those "when they want to" ocassions are few and far in between. One of my friends even said hes planning on returning it because he doesnt find much use for it... What? The fact that the fold is considerably limiting on the cover display makes me use the inner screen considerably more, which is why I bought it for. I would've bought a regular slab if I wanted to use a regular phone.

Zfold5 user, nice upgrade from my zfold3. Everything works buttery smooth and easy. One UI is the best in the BUSINESS. I actually love the smaller front screen. The best for one hand usage. Opening to the big screen is like a whole different experience. Samsung knows what they're doing. The smaller front screen is here to stay and I'm all for it.

@@shahrukhsaleem1438 well, it IS a foldable... So you may get wear from long term usage. I did notice after about a year and a half on my ZFOLD3 there was a slight bulge where the crease is. I decided to use my Samsung warranty on it and I got a brand new Zfold3 with an upgrade from 256 to 512 storage lol. So that was nice and it was seamless. I'll recommend if you do decide to upgrade to the zfold5, do it through Samsung. Upgrading through carriers is a messier experience. Samsungs trade in system is super duper easy through the website.

I just found it funny how more people ain't complaining about a brand new $1800 foldable phone that does not open up all the way. This is an obvious defect that Google knew about beforehand and still chose to sell defective foldable phones for $1800. Pixel fold customers should return them all because that little bend will only become worse in time

Having used both, the Pixel front display is objectively superior for productivity, and personally, the Galaxy Fold is irrelevant. Nothing of its redeeming qualities can raise it to a broader aspect ratio benefits. That is the question Samsung has to ask? Preaching to the converted and pleasing a niche fanbase that loves the narrow display or at least believes they do, or tap into a much larger market of people waiting for a more expansive front display? So many comments will praise the Galaxy, but they will love a wider display if it comes in the Fold 6. The winner is the Pixel Fold, and that is very obvious to me, but each to their own.

Loving my Pixel fold. I've had the ZFold 2, 3 and 4 (although not the 5) and prefer the Pixel. Outer screen is actually usable, cameras definitely better and i do prefer Googles software even though the optimisation isn't great. Now playing, call screening etc make it for me. Btw is that the 50 years of hip hop pixel fold? Very nice and slightly jealous
