Quality content ! Straight to the point, no stupid fill content, and the calm music on the background is a huge plus. Wish more reviewers understood that it's not a requirement to play some distracting bass music on the background. Keep up the good work !
7.1 is just a marketing gimmick, you don't ever need that for gaming and to top it all it just makes the sound worse. A quality stereo is all you need. Don't pay for useless features.
This! 100%. People get caught up on all sorts of marketing bs. High quality DAC and high end headphones from an actual studio monitor company is what you actually want.
I just got them and sent back the Astro A50s 4. Gen. The Astros sound a bit muffled and the mic was really bad on the Astro to the point where any Notebook Mic sounds better. The MMX here could sound a bit "warmer" imo. So I tweaked them with Dolby Atmos, which also gives you surround. Overall I would say get these instead of the astros if you are playing mostly on PC and also watch a lot of videos, movies and listen to music.
You can improve them even further by purchasing either the Dekoni audio choice leather or Dekoni audio elite sheepskin ear pad replacements. They are infinitely more comfortable and make the headphones sound even better.
You seem like you know a bit about audio, so why do you praise 7.1? It literally only makes sound worse. It just makes the game sound "cavey" and harder to tell direction. There are 2 drivers in 99% of headsets and headphones, hence it's literally impossible to tell the difference, the only thing it does it opens the sound a bit. Good headphones provide far better spatial recognition than any "7.1 headphones" ever will.
You can easily turn this into a 7.1 surround headset but you need an amplifier and an optical cable but it’s brilliant that they give you the big 6.35mm Jack so you are ready for that option right out of the box.
7.1 isn't necessarily an advantage. It depends on the person really. I have a really old headset right now without surround sound (Turtle Beach Earforce XO Ones - it's still perfect after 8 years, it's a bit broken, but the breaks actually made it more flexible lol), and I can pinpoint perfectly. I can easily point out where someone is if they're shooting from a certain window or something.
Thank you very much! I bought the Logitech Pro X Wireless to hear my own voice, which is not very loud. With GarageBand I can increase the volume to a satisfactory level, but I'm still shopping around for a headset that doesn't need a boast, and my voice sounds natural and clear. I've decided to be open to wired headsets since the sound quality is better. This is a good option.
@@angryhusky232Because it’s just a gimmick, if you want a more realistic form of surround sound then use a pair of open-back headphones/headset instead of closed-back.
Thank you so much for the great content dude i love it. I know i have been asking this quite alot but do you think you will do a review on the Philips Fidelio X2HR it will really shock you how good they are.
You've just convinced me to purchase these after reminding me what I loved about the originals so much 😉 I've owned the original MMX 300's for about 10 years now with the Asus Xonar Essence STX and apart from gaming, I use them a lot for music and watching films. The STX has a really nice surround sound emulator that works so well with these headphones and especially good at creating a clear centre speaker. And of course, music sounds awesome on them! But I've had a lot of problems with my cable (I've had to replace it a few times) mainly due to it getting wrapped around the armrest on my chair and getting yanked onto the floor! So I'm really looking forward to have a detachable cable :D They're also very good at blocking outside noise and I often wear them without listening to anything.
Great review. 7.1 refers to home cinema speaker systems. 7 speakers plus 1 subwoofer (or 5 and sub in 5.1.) I have this setup and no way can a 2 way headphones and 2 ears mimic this in stereo. This is what it is in headphones, a gimick. These headphones great, i bought them based on your solid review. And, subbed
Nice Review, but how did you record the mic. Do you use a soundcard? I have the mmx300 but my mic does not sound as good as yours and it has much rustle.
Virtual 7.1 could be done by processing and simulation. However great imaging, separation and (but not importantly) soundstage. Some headphones can achieve that nativity without processing the sound.
Love the videos mate , I need your help, I'm on ps4 pro at mo still waiting for that elusive ps5 , but I'm stuck between two headsets, steelseries arctis pro wireless, astro a50 gen 4 , I only play fps games , which would you buy for sound , comfort, and mike , I need wireless for my set up , birthday at end of month and wife is getting annoyed that I cant choose cheers
Not having this 7.1 VS Sound BS is *NOT* a "disadvantage"! 7.1VS is just a cheap excuse for not heaving a real soundcard, be it intern or USB and using the cheap crap that comes with other usb headsets. Using a AE-5 or in my case an AE-7 with the DT770PRo, which the MMX300 basically is, makes any artificial VS or scout mode "improvement" useless as you will hear exactly where your opponents are without it, because of the sheer soundquality of that card. No one should use an expensive high quality headset like that on cheap onboard solutions, you need a good usb or internal solution, to get the most out of it and then you will hear that this 7.1 VS is just garbage, when you get the same or even better audio with just stereo.
0:55 isn't the headband on backwards? The velcro seam would be hidden if you simply flipped it around to the back, no? EDIT: 2:00 ahh, that actually was the backside even. From the front they look perfectly fine! :D
I have a very good creative sound blaster AE-5 Plus sound card that already comes with that 5.1 and 7.1, do you think these headphones would work better?
I know, that this video is about two years old, but maybe I will get an answer. Was the microphone sound recorded in the same room as the one we saw in the video?
Those will blow Astro a50s out of the water, they are just soooo unbelievably good. I've had them for 2 years now and i absolutely love them, they are soo good for playing videogames, but also for listening to music and communicating with your friends, they are the non plus ultra, there's no way back if you have tried them once.
Did you already test the Corsair void pro wireless ? Because, I have one and I'm tired of his battery life that is not very good and of his quality. I'm interested in this MMX 300 but I don't know if the sound is very remarquable compared to the void pro !
Anyway to make them louder. I just bought them yesterday and they have no bass and the volume is like 60 percent of other headphones I have. I wanna like them , but I am having low max volume issues
I heard a review of this headset and the person said the surround sound is incredible good. And he uses this as his reference headset for this... i am confused what correct now and idk what to buy
Just add a astro mix amp and they are fps game ready i have q pad 1339 (beyerdynamic) had them a while worked perfectly until stepped on the cable which is fixed and now have a loose connection gutted 😔
First of all, thank you for your review. Second: You have a complete disinformation when it comes to audio. "7.1 Surround Sound" does not exist. It is marketing. And every company that jumps onto it, just does it to.. well.. sell their items and fuel into spreading the misinformation. Just to make it clear because it is really important to me: STEREO SOUND IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS FOR ANY HEADPHONE AND HEADSET. Thus: The sound quality and spectrum is what is important. These headphone are also perfect for any surround sound environment and for competitive gaming! Again: "5.1" or "7.1" is a lie. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.
@@itswillhighlights658 It simulates 7.1 through software, not hardware. The button you are pressing is not creating any physical change in the speakers. You have a 2.0 headset. The 2 stands for the number of speakers (two, one left, one right) the one for the amount of subwoofers (its a headset, of course there are none); 7.1 implies that you have 7 speakers and one subwoofer. This terminology makes sense with speaker systems but not with headphones. 7.1 is a term for simulating how it would sound, if you actually had 7 speakers and a subwoofer but it has almost nothing to do with the hardware. You still end up with a stereo headset. And ANY stereo headset is capable of surround sound. Its all software magic.
@@nerooweb Thanks for the response that was perfectly explained, just need to find out do you mean specifically is that some headsets have the software capability of mimicing surround sound that some other branded headsets dont and also what's the benefit for a manufacturer to not include the software in these headsets does it have a drawback. I bought these mmx headphones today so i hope i wont be dissapointed if its software doesn't simulate the same kind of wide sound range that im use to, just an example if im going to play any form of fp shooter in the future im going to need to know where the shots are coming from. Thanks
Out of the box the headphones just try to give you the best sound they can. This is perfect for listening to music and movies. And if you are gaming and need better sound localisation (surround sound) beyerdynamic let’s you turn this simulation on and off via their software. To make this perfect they even allow for individual HRTF. If you never heard of HRTF it stands for head related transfer function and basically is the science behind how we and our brains perceive directional sound. The way we localise the direction in real life is individual and tied to the shape of our ears and head. This is why beyerdynamic even allows (sounds ridiculous but makes 100% sense) to make a photo of our ears and load it into the software for even more precise simulation. Audio in general is a crazy and interesting topic and I really love the fact that beyerdynamic is not lying to us with made up marketing "science". Bottom line: load their software and you should have amazing surround sound. If you want even more precise sound you can go the extra step with the photo of your ear shape. But mostly not needed.
