I turned 73 yesterday. Saw the Beatles live twice in my tweens. Went through a long hippie phase in the 60s. Got completely engulfed in punk in the 70s and post-punk in the 80s. In a lifetime of listening to great music, Cowboy Carter has grabbed me and won't let me go. This album is SUBLIME. Lemonade turned me into a Beyonce fan; Cowboy Carter clinched me as a fan for life. Long live Queen Bee!
Oh that's so great to hear 👍🏼 her musical influences are unreal on this album. She really went deep. I'm so blown away as well by the amount of artistry that went into that whole entire album. I have goosebumps currently.
IT'S A LITERAL FUNERAL MASS IN UNDER 6 MINS. LOVE IT. It's structured like a Church service with a clear Opening Hymn, Sermon, Closing Hymn structure, and specifically a Black or Southern Baptist church when it comes to the Sermon portion. A lot of people realize that requiem means funeral mass and what the song means about laying the old ideas and biases to rest but no one is pointing out that the song itself is quite literally a full funeral mass, start to end. During the sermon portion there are vocal interjections as a choir would with a preacher in a call and response sort of way and also preaching chords. IT IS INGENIOUS & BRILLIANT! A clever girl indeed.
"I'm the one to cleanse me of my father's sins"? Beyonce might use church sounds, but that ain't no church message. It's self idolatry. She's dressing in churchface.
Brilliant. This whole album is like a masterpiece. The way it opens with AMERIICAN Requiem and closes with Amen is just a couple of ways it’s perfection. The progression and juxtaposition of Spaghettii and Alliigator Tears have me in a chokehold today.
Thats the one I'm waiting for because Beyonce definitely going to go in I'm not.sure if she's going to go tina turner with it but for the mean time we can enjoy this masterpiece
Oh God... I almost forgot that there's another album coming💀😭😭😳 the fact that she's outdone herself on this already and now she's releasing ANOTHER ALBUM??? WHAT???!! OMG...
@@prettygemini3432You dont understand MUSIC. Stop hating on something that clearly u can’t understand, every lyric of this song has its own meaning, so, if u cannot get it LEAVE.
People are going to talk about ‘Jolene’ or ‘Ya Ya’, but THIS song is going to be what’s on movie soundtracks for the rest of our lives. Instant rock classic.

Imagine recording more than 100 songs for Cowboy Carter, an instant masterpiece of genre-bending and storytelling with some of your best vocals (in a career of many many stellar vocal performances), THEN following that up with Renaissance, a masterpiece in its own right, and one of the greatest dance records to ever be produced. AND still having a whole ass album sitting in the vault waiting for release. BEYONCÉ IS UNSTOPPABLE. This lady is done with the industry’s games. IM ABSOLUTELY SHOOK.
What "industry games" are you referring to? Honest question. Why does there always need to be this undercurrent of anger and protest? She's a married billionaire mom with a #1 album. Beyonce is darn near worshipped.
Up until 3 days ago, I had never listened to a Beyonce song. Then I heard Blackbird and I wept tears of joy . . . and then I heard American Requiem and I was totally mesmerized by the power and the vastness of the intention. Beyonce, you are a force of Nature and you are leading the way towards justice and equality. Thank you.
@@hermanmunster714 here's the thing... when enough of us think *it*, it does bring change. It's never one politician who'll change "the system". It's us, when we decide to be better and do better. Hope you have a nice day ✌
I imagine her gingerly pulling her coat open to reveal her pistol when she sings that part, as if to say, "While I do com in peace and love, YOUR peace depends on how you move." 😂
After listening to this album in full, I'm going to need Beyonce give us a theater tour. A live version of this would be insane!! She would finally have her Tony!
I feel like Beyonce is following in the footsteps of country legend Ray Charles. Genius black singer/songwriter of the 60s. In the early 60s, he crossed over from an already successful career in gospel, R&B, and jazz, and moved on to soul, then consciously took elements of all of them to country music, with his landmark album Modern Sounds of Country and Western. He was told “The people who like country music don’t want to hear you sing it, and the people who like to listen to you sing don’t listen to country.” Many artists credit him as the most important influence on country music. Like Beyonce, he introduced fans of the other genres to country & western music. Like Beyonce, he collaborated with many other popular artists. He worked Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Hank Williams, as well as Billy Joel and eventually Van Morrison. What an amazing cross section of artists. I think it is so damn cool that Willie Nelson collaborated with Ray Charles in 1985 AND with Beyonce in 2024. Beyonce is a genius, as was Ray Charles. I could go on about their similarities and potential contributions to musical and societal integration, but I’ll just say this. I am learning to appreciate Beyoncé’s music, and culture, more as I listen to and study this masterpiece of an album. She is sharing her gifts with us, like so many before her. And I appreciate it.
"Goodbye to what has been. a pretty house that we never settled in" this line is so deep. The way it hints at American history and the struggle for some to feel at home in this country.
@@Danieei Speak for yourself! It's definitely MY country. We have more blood, sweat and tears seeped into the foundation of this nation than most people. I dare someone to tell me that this isn't my country
Better than hip-hop at least. It's nice to see music bending back toward a more rootsy sound. Covering a Beatles song w/ acoustic guitar is also a return to music everyone can enjoy.

Just an honest opinion. Beyoncé is still on top for me. She had released several critically acclaimed albums throughout her career, where each album showcased her immense talent and versatility as an artist. Each of those albums represents a different phase in Beyoncé's artistic evolution and has left a significant impact on popular music. Beyoncé's ability to reinvent herself with each release while maintaining her signature style and authenticity is what makes her one of the most influential artists of her generation. Truly an artist to other artists! 💘😍✨👑
I gotta give props to Beyonce’. She’s proven herself and is most definitely an icon. This album has confirmed it for me. I’m not in the Beyhive.. I’m just a fellow musician/songwriter that appreciates her amazing talent. This is indeed a masterpiece. WOW!

Everyday on my bike rides since it came out. While I can still hear the perfection, cycling is not a proper way to LISTEN to an album, particularly one that's multi-layered as this. Unfortunately, that's the only time that I listen to music in a back-to-back manner.
@JessJayEel y'all might as well hold off on the visuals, I honestly don't think the visuals are going to come . Film is money, for act 1 renaissance it has 16 songs and cowboy Carter it has 26 songs, plus we don't know how long the track list for act3 is going to be,I honestly don't think we are going to get visuals, it's going to be more than likely like formation
Nah, it seems pretty straightforward. Beyonce is a fabulously wealthy, successful woman, but she still needs to show that she "struggles". So, she and her 12 co-writers create a vague enemy who tried to hold her back. But, her own awesomeness eventually saved her!
The most heart wrenching sentence on this song is “them big ideas, are buried here” she is referring to all of the billions of people that lived and dared to dream but never got to see those big dreams come into fruition. America, the land of buried dreams.
@@MichaelSmith-ri6ekThe beauty of truly good lyrics is that they can be interpreted by each listener in a different way, with only the essence staying consistent. I love it.
She is truly brilliant, I hate so many people miss out on her work not realizing what they are missing out on. Truly a blessing to be alive while she’s doing this.
A funeral for fair weather friends, I am the one to cleanse me of my father's sins ... That hit my SOUL so deeply.... I am in tears.... ❤ Thank you for that gift.
This album really interested me to explore the myriad of black country artists. Beyoncé helped create such a platform. This song means a lot. We are different but our soul should expel love and in that we are one. Let’s share the stage and recognize each other Bey said move over!. It’s time! Love u Bey

I'm bawling. This song is for our ancestors who were slaves who died and buried here, who brought us Country, all other genre of music and our culture😭
Come on bro, you didn't invent EVERY genre of music in this country. Bluegrass comes from the Scots-Irish descendents of Appalachia, ditto for many elements of country
Wow, this is INCREDIBLE. Beyoncé they will never let you win because they don’t know what to do with a talent like you. You are out of their scope of understanding and a league of your own. They can’t handle it!
I think you are wrong. She already won every possible award and ist the unofficial official Queen of the USA. That's what many Papers, Talk Show Hosts and Media already Said years ago and it's still Like that. Maybe more than ever. Everybody loves Beyoncé. She's the Winner, she's the Queen.....what else?!
She's taking back what they tried to deny her. I remember that CMA performance, the hate was palpable. Now, they get to see what she can do in this space...that was created by her ancestors. Powerful.
A requiem is a special church service or musical piece meant to remember and pray for people who have died. It's often used in the Catholic Church. The word "requiem" means "rest," referring to the wish for the dead to find peace.
Yep! She's wishing the Old Guard of the CMA, RIP. What I love is Dolly, Willie Nelson, Linda Martell and Miley are helping her do it. All hail the QUEEN!
@@morgangibbs5836 You can't kill what's already dead. Her performance at the CMAs with The Chicks was, in fact, the removal of Life Support for the genre. Since that performance, the number of African Americans entering the genre is astounding. The CMA has been dying a slow death for decades. It's taken an African American Creole Woman from Houston, TX, to play it's dirge to it's burial site. Country Music is being returned to it's rightful home.
This was the best possible revenge honestly. I just know they somewhere in a corner seething over the fact that she came out the other end of their ire stronger than when she went in. She’s not even crooning hatred, she’s preaching peace. Building bridges. What a class act. ❤️
This song is definition of EXCELLENCE. Can't stop pushing repeat. It's so empowering, no matter your skin color, gender, status, whatever. This is full of Heart and Positive energy. Thank U Miss Beyoncé for always bringing the A game. **A fan from France sending love to all of'y'all (haters included) 😘
3:57 They used to say I spoke, "Too country" Then the rejection came, said I wasn't, "Country enough" Said I wouldn't saddle up, but If that ain't country, tell me, what is? Plant my bare feet on solid ground for years They don't, don't know how hard I had to fight for this When I sang my song😭😭😭
I'm surprised how did she know that she will receive criticism for doing this album... bcz she recorded this before Renaissance... I think she can see future ... queen for a reason
@@ajoybanik7455It was after The CMAS she was criticized for not being "country enough" in 2016. Daddy Lessons was rejected for country category even after the remix with The Chicks which got her even more backlash
@@AngeBiampandou I like that she held back a bit because that was also a massive comeback for the dixie chicks after they were blackballed, she let them have their moment...That performance was a massive statement in itself because black people are forgotten in country music as if they weren't the originators. After that performance there were loads of racists complaining, while the show had its highest viewer ratings
Obvious Queen and Prince inspiration. DId we also catch the cords from Buffalo Springfield opening " there's something happening here...everbody stop look around" when she sings,"there's alot of talking going on...looka here, looka dere" FREAKING GENIUS!!!!
@@imnotfine. How much do you want to bet that the artists you listen to don't 100% write all of their songs but if Beyoncé doesn't write or co-write on some songs, all of a sudden, that's a problem and takes away from her talent and success. Acting like she wasn't recognized for her songwriting skills, isn't also credited as a songwriter for some of her songs, etc. I need people like you to shut the hell up.
My. God. Folks, history is being made with this album. Mark my words, we will look back on this album AND THIS SONG as the moment America changed. This will become part of our culture from this day forward. Long live Beyonce'!
American Requiem is the perfect introduction for this masterpiece, she speaks loud against racism and she invite us to honor our grands and the people who build American Country, she is giving example, eather she's reclaiming her right too speak country really loud, a right she has been fighting for through her whole career.

Beyonce' is a great artist, I love this album. When she thanked music geniuses who paved the way like Stevie Wonder and Prince at the IHeart Awards, I was applauding her so much. Cowboy Carter is a great album.
Lol hilarious. The girl from Texas that people did, in fact, say had a voice that was “too country” being told that she’s “not country” when she dabbles in the genre is insane 😂
They're not talking about just the music. They are talking about her right to call herself and people who look like her Americans. Time to stand up and fight the Ameriican Requiem and resist what this country was founded on by evil forefathers who enslaved her forefathers/mothers. Those crying about this album know who she talking to and about.
@@Khsjsj that's a lot of mouth and energy spent gaining views for the song. every comment made here drives it up in the youtube algorithm and tells youtube how popular it is and how much conversation it's causing. so, thanks!
I'm going to be 70. I ignored Beyonce for years, and then I started to listen. She is way more than I realized, and her new work is a game changer. And I love 💘 love😂this so🎵 🎉
im close to tears at this part "goodbye to what has been, a pretty house that we never settled in" this whole song is so beautiful. my heart is touched. thank you once again beyonce
"I am the one to cleanse me of my fathers sins" most underrated line in this whole song. Their are generational short comings that have plagued our black families and she stood there and broke as many as she could. And she got a lot of scars to show from her battles but she did that. Hope i can do that too
