It's the new version it's updated the original was made 40 years ago but the different mindset. But neither the first version or the second holds the man responsible for any d*** thing... These women are fighting among themselves and neither one of them hold the man responsible for even allowing the flirtation so I'd like to see a song man responsible
His affair doesn't reflect on who she is a person and she delivered that message with Lemonade, but this song is so redundant. This song would've been better if he didn't have that history. But it did take seductive stares to get him to wander. I get it. He cheated and he won't cheat again but this song would've been so much harder if seductive stares didn't make him wander in the first place.
I love Beyonce's voice but it took a little getting used to as she sounds so much different than Dolly. It's almost like Andrea Bocelli singing a Prince song or something.
Jolene stole a man from Dolly in 1973, and now from Beyonce in 2024, 51 years later???? Absolute legend. How amazing is Jolene she has been running at this level for 51 years.
@@crystalwtube Well, she means that someone wants her man and is trying to get him but Bey warns her that it won't happen. I agree with you in general though.
When this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. I just want to send love to everyone and I want everyone to know things will get better. We are in this together..I love you ❤️🎉
Many people would say that Beyoncé's version is similar to the original one, released by Dolly Parton in 1974, but there is a big difference. As we can see the lyrics are different, and the way these two amazing artists are singing. First up, we have got Dolly's version where she is desperate, begging Jolene not to take her man. She sings about how she is crying whenever she hears her man call out Jolene's name. In her song Dolly is singing very soft, and her voice fits perfectly to the song. Now we have the queen of R&B - Beyoncé. In her version her singing is very storng, what showes us the feeling of power that Bey has in the song. She is warning Jolene to stay away from her man and that she is the queen. Also as I mentioned the vocal interpretation plays a very important role here, because Dolly Parton's singing is soft and that tells us that she is desperate, and then we have got Bey's strong vocals to tell us that Jolene has no chances with Beyoncé's man. What a wonderful version of the song, great work Beyoncé, that's why you are one of the biggest icons of the 21st century 👏🏼❤🐝
If Dolly says Jolene is so much prettier than her that she can’t even compete then Jolene is obviously a goddess and would still be exceptional at 85 right? Because Dolly is exceptional even now and she must be like 45 at least right
I've seen Jolene interpreted a few different ways, from the obvious perspective of a woman terrified of losing her man, to a woman secretly grappling with her sexuality and feelings for Jolene herself, to even a gender reversal where it's a man afraid of Jolene taking his man. This is the first time where the woman in question comes at Jolene not with desperation and a plea, but with rage and a warning.
I think she’s singing this on behalf of her mother also. She says raised his kids for 20 years ( Blue Ivy ain’t 20 yet) and I’m still a banjee B-tch from Louisiana (Beyoncé was born and raised in Houston but Tina Knowles is from Louisiana ). She sung this for her mama Tina.
Nope, this is from her own perspective. The lyrics says "We've been deep in love for 20 years", which makes sense because Beyonce and Jay-Z had been in a relationship for 20 years or more. The part where she says she raised her man and her kids do not link to the 20 years in the song. The Louisiana lyric is a nod to her roots, although she was born and raised in Houston, Texas - her roots on her mother's side can be traced back to the French colonists from Acadia and Afro-Creole survivors of slavery. As she sings the lyrics in the song she's reminding Jolene to not mess with someone who's roots are Louisianne. Something like that.
@AuwDieOu first and last time. Have to give things a fair chance before writing them off. I heard that it was garbage, but I like Beyonce and I like country, so I gave it a chance. 2 songs listened, 2 songs hated. Never gonna listen again
Ok but will smith got cheated on and had the nerve to slap Chris Rock over a cheating a$$ B but everyone forgot bout that huh? A woman who gets cheated on then sings about it is in purgatory 😢
No one forgot about Will Smith getting cheated on and this song is crazy because she told a woman it’s gunna be hard to get between her man and her family when he already been let that happen.
Isn't that a threat? Never understood women who go after other women instead of minding their cheating partners... Humans are free & usually cheat for a reason...🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️

Jolene like: Beyonce Girl! I only steal good looking man, so idk wtf you talking about FOUUHHH! And im 72635 years now so idk WTF you talking about again.
The comments responding to comments😂 all serious like.....songs aren't autobiography or Jay-Z is a catch he's a billionaire. I think she needs to try a Miranda Lambert song....
Beyoncé is my queen so I dedicated a song to her, pls go check it out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KELU_dAzthY.htmlsi=9kL0vkxH56ik7b0Z
This is baaaad beyond words. One thing is that Bouncy never had any definition, she is just a tool and product but this is so tragic that I think it can't get any worse.
@@ARR-dg9xs it's a reference to the amount of booze the person in this video keeps adding to this cup. "Irish Coffee" is a euphemism for Coffee (Columbian) with Alchohol.
Shout out to all Jolenes out there!!! They got the power to naturally attract, take whatever they can without a struggle. If that is not a blessing then I do no eesh, Bs stay threatened, throwing shade and whining, but Jolene say nuffin for years !!!
@@nancystevens1348 FACTS!!!! Dolly's been called 'trashy' and 'flashy', but she's a LADY through and through. My grandma reminded me of her so much as I was growing up...i miss her, may she rest in peace. My grandma taught me how to walk away, but my mama taught me how to be petty...so you can get either with me...I've also learned that between the 2 is 'i'll give you the same energy you give me' and THAT has never led me astray. My grandma taught me acceptance and tolerance, that no one is perfect, and my mother taught me to never settle. Somewhere I got lost as a young woman and ended up abused. I learned that you can't always go with either extreme. No one was gonna be good enough in my mother's eyes and my grandmother was very 'just don't make him mad and it'll be ok'....my husband is a hard working, hard headed, tender hearted, caring, loving man that doesn't fit the mold but is perfect for me. He's my in-between and my rock. He sees me, calls me on my shit, and doesn't try to change me. There's a balance between Dolly and Beyonce's version too...and it's Jolene's story....let Jolene work...if your man don't wanna leave you, he won't. You don't have to threaten her, or beg her. Let her be thirsty. They're both mad at the woman....but it's the man that's tempted to begin with that's the problem, and I bet Jolene would say the same. ;)
@calli.catastrophe I used to be "ill give you the same energy you give me", but no matter what anyone does I try to do the right thing. In Jolenes case I just walked away from my bf because he was sleeping with his ex wife while living with me.
@@nancystevens1348 see...ok....i feel like i need to elaborate a tiny bit. In most general settings (going to the store, getting fuel at a station, in a drive through), and especially if you're a stranger, i still live by 'i'll give the same energy you give me'. If I haven't given you a reason to be rude, don't be, and then I won't call you on it...BUT....in a situation like that, 100% I would agree to being the bigger person. SOMEONE has to be the adult, if you catch my drift. I've been there, and I've walked away too. I won't EVER do the 'oh you cheated on me? well guess what, two can play that game' thing....NEVER...that's never healthy. It depends on the circumstances. You 100% have to know your worth and your limits and what you're willing to put up with and what you're not. Some things, like infedelity, are non-negotiable, and require a taking of the high road. Good for you!!! I'm glad you got out and I hope it hasn't jaded you or made you too cynical. I wish you the best in love and life hun. You're a strong person. Always remember that. That situation alone is proof
