Thank u because k Michelle (puddin) is pouring her heart out in her country music. I’m so happy for her and that she found her thing ♥️. Her music actually sounds good too 🫶🏻💃🏻. I’m glad people giving her, her flowers because they stay overlooking her.
Yes!!!! She absolutely deserves them!!! Amazingly beautiful and talented!!! She’s always wanted to do country, but was discouraged by the industry. Glad she finally decided to make her own waves.
We can't forget Mickey Guyton, who was the first black woman to be nominated for Best Solo Country Performance Grammy in 2021. Guyton also hosted the CMA's.
We didn’t forget her. But we also wouldn’t be bringing her name up more as a pioneer had Beyonce not start controversy in the country music sphere. Not saying Bey is the savior but her influence does help whether people want to admit it or not
@@QSandoreBeautefacts facts and all facts 💯 . I just can’t understand for the life of me why our own people are talking down about bey getting into the genre more than these “racist white folks”. We really need to do better.
Beyonce took her fan base and introduced them to a genre they probably wouldn't have listened to. Since her album announcement, my socials have been flooded with other black country artist I wouldn't have known of! I think it's a positive effect that everyone can thrive from. Beyonce wasn't the first, but her fan base is HUGE!
I literally had NO IDEA how many black artists was into country music. LITERALLY DID NOT KNOW ONE BLACK COUNTRY ARTIST. Now a new one popping up on my timeline everyday. Im like WTF 😳. I still dont like the music but it was interesting to see the power of Beyonce’s influence.
I remember K. Michelle talking about how she had been listening to Bluegrass and country since being a child and that she wanted to be involved in that music scene, but that because she was Black, she was basically forced into RnB
This was a great cover on black people in country! I didn’t realize our presence was so heavy and now I want to add them to my playlist and expand my pallet. Beyoncé is doing the lords work. Thank you for your journalism 😊🎉
@@Aqua-y2eGirl bye. Linda Wells from Herbs and Peaches, Patricia Rushen, Myriam Makeba, Stevie Wonder, Rick James would shit on Erykah Badu arrogant self who thinks she owns beaded braids that Beyoncé has worn since childhood. And don't forget black Egyptians and the africans ancestors who passed down those traditions during the transatlantic slave trade
It is a struggle for Black country musicians. It’s so sad and I’m a huge country music fan! Also, I’m the decedent of a Black cowboy and I used to trail ride in Houston and Louisiana. So, we deserve to be heard in country music 🤎
I am in shock I didn’t realize how many black country artists there were I really don’t care for the country music I hear on the radio but bc of your channel my old butt was really enjoying this good music, I really like it, thank you CP, I absolutely luv your channel. God bless you sweet thang😊
My grandfather was born in 1929 in rural South Carolina he told me that because of the mockery of the minstrel shows black men didn’t want to be seen as country and began playing jazz music because it made them appear to look more dignified. So that may give some insight on why black musicians left the genre.
It must be exhausting to be in this woman's shoes When she doesn't speak, she's labelled arrogant and cocky Whenever she speaks, her words are twisted, overanalyzed, etc ... Whenever she breathes, it's an uproar Her star shines too bright I wouldn't want it to be honest
@@smilealwaysnatasha3423 Especially black women. At least with the racist whites It's expected but ever since Destiny's Child it was mostly black women creating anti Beyoncé sites in like 2000 and some of the women behind them were older while Beyoncé was 18-19
I don't often watch your channel because of a certain bias you have BUT the reason I keep coming back is because you love music! Often the songs you talk about I have but sometimes, like this video, I get told some gems. I plan to listen to every single artist you put in your details. Thank you for bringing recognition to black artists! I would love to give musical suggestions but I've found a lot of big RU-vidrs can't get to every comment (I hope you keep growing).
Damn me too! I thought I was the only one that noticed her Bias. If she doesn't like an artist, she's definitely going to discredit and only report certain stories about them. But like you said she be on to stuff for the most part it's just that at the same time, a lot of stuff that's said just make you fall back for a min. Guess that's the thing about opinions and perspectives tho
Beyonce's publicist did a great job writing that thank you letter on her behalf. The Pointer Sisters were nominated for a Grammy for best country music song in 1976.
I love it when you include educational information with my tea fr 😅 🙏🏾 I just learned so much about country music towards the end. Thank you for sharing other country artists 💕
No right I love seeing a little history lesson especially when people have all this RAH RAH with beyonce doing what she wants and trying new things. It’s because she’s dark it’s making people uncomfortable. I hate the racism in music it’s disgusting 😢
@@angelofpurity1992 She also wore it on the On The Run II Tour book in Jamaica in 2018 as well. These were some of my favorite shots. She looks gorgeous everytime in it (+ the body is bodying) Erykah is weird. Her comments about girls needing to wear longer skirts to not distract male teachers threw me off. Let's not even get into her being an R Kelly/Bill Cosby and Hitler apologist. I can't stand her anymore. This one sided beef with Beyoncé but not Solange (who has worn beaded braids as well) is just weird. SZA's Hit Different mv wasn't that long ago either and she was quiet too
I will definitely support Kmichelle because it’s the passion , AUTHENTICITY and indebted research that she did transitioning to the country genre. I absolutely respect it because it’s beyond about the lucrative benefits she truly enjoys country music. Unfortunately I can’t support Beyonce because as she stated it’s not about country and the passion for country BUT GETTING REVENGE???? Like what???? Beyonce also stated it’s not a country album it’s a BEYONCE ALBUM?????? Yo what the hell 🤣
@@sgriffiths0280it’s not about “revenge” . Beyoncé approach is different because she’s actually gonna teach us the roots of country music. Also to shed light on other black country artists. Trust me if Beyoncé didn’t care about country music, then she wouldn’t have made an album…
Ms Empressive!!! OMG. Thank you for mentioning so many of the black country artists that are out there making music. I never knew there were so many. I’ve been a fan of your videos for a while, and this is the one that takes the cake for me, for some reason is resonating.
This is an in-depth analysis and I very much appreciate the effort you put in this piece. Thank you very much. I am a Stan BeyHive and I can’t wait to experience full country music with the Beyoncé Album and other Black Country artists
Thanks for promoting black country artists who have been in the shadows of obscurity for so long! I highly appreciate you sis ❤ Beyoncé is the perfect catalyst to country music being back on the radar of the black community. Kudos Empressive!
People go insane when beyonce takes inspo but never says from who, it’s like why does she always have to credit people??? Art doesn’t need an explanation always
I agree this video geta 2 thumbs up for the journalism work and the cover on our history. Great job including the videos from Tik Tok on educating us about our history. You did your thing Empressive 😃
Yeah It's called jealousy lol. Most of them have not seen any success in 20 years and are throwback acts despite her starting around the same time in the 90s with DC. They need to get over it. What we suppose to do ?
@@AngeBiampandou why the hell would anybody be jealous of Beyoncé? You don’t make it to the top and have people literally afraid of you (for fear of being blackballed) without you doing something to get there and it’s usually unscrupulous. At least other artists get to go to sleep with a (somewhat) clean conscious. See, people like Badu don’t wanna sell their soul, but she can still eat off her catalogue and the fans GENUINELY love her all over the globe. People are forced in to liking Beyoncé. People who know real music know that beyonce is completely overrated and a damn copycat. That’s what really pisses me off. She blatantly steals from other artists and gets all the praise for it. I don’t get it.
@@thebuttermilkgirlisbackwho does she steal from?? y’all seem to get INSPIRATION & stealing confused. y’all be mad that she doesn’t “pay homage” to the older artists but then get mad when she does. make it make sense
@@benshapiro11 who does she steal from? Dude, there’s too many videos made documenting how Beyoncé copied other artists and didn’t give credit until she got caught. She even admitted to Frank Gaskins that nobody wants them at their show because they’re gonna steal ideas or whatever. The girl is not original. Now in less than one year, she copied Badu’s style…twice. It’s NOT a coincidence.
If that’s the case then it would be dope for all bp who benefit from something to help out other bp who don’t benefit from the same things. But y’all want to think y’all are better than the next melanated person. Therefore Beyonce doesn’t owe the blk artists nothing. They need to boost themselves up the way y’all tell other bp ALL the time.
That’s exactly what she’s going to do!! When she made her Afrobeats album almost every song featured an African artist. She introduced many of them to her mainstream audience and now they are taking over the world. This album will be no different.
@@floridacocoabrown643 not love but I second that motion on I don't know what's going on with eb & her beef with bey!! Ist a hat then beads really what is it next earrings? I mean I really wonder what the real issue is
Girl im an artist from toronto and i cannot wait til u do a break down of me! Lol you are one of the few bloggers who ACTUALLY dig deep and do your home work. This was amazingly put together!
I love that Beyonce is not going to go back and forth with people over stupid shit. Let them argue with themselves. Every time she has music coming out or a tour the same people and fanbases come alive to bash her. I can't wait to hear her music. I am going to focus on that.
I really liked this video. Well done as always and quite informational. I liked what K. Michelle had to say about her experience with the Country music genre... I grew up listening to some country, as my older sister loved it. I was not a big fan at the time. Now as an adult I like it more. Thank you for the list of Artist. I will most definitely be checking out these black country Artist to give support! ♥
Empressive it seems like you have been looking at my Country Music TikToks judging by the different clips you chose per these country artists. I am flattered! 😃
Thanks for the black country music plug, am going to go stream them. 😊👍🏾 My Nigerian ahh grew up on country music as that is what my mum played at home. (Dolly Parton especially)
Thank you expressive for showing numerous black country artists. Because I’m tired of people acting like Beyonce is doing something that’s never been done before. She’s NOT the first black person to do it. And where is the love and accountability for K Michelle who’s been doing country music for a minute. Damn Beyoncé is not the be all end all.
When anybody said Beyoncé was the 1st at wearing beaded braids ? Erykah is the one who is claming she is the 1st with her arrogant delusionnal self. And K Michelle got two country songs y'all didn't buy. Is she the only black woman singing country ? She's no Linda Martell either foh 😂
@@jessielove297 K Michelle doesn't have, and would probably never have, a big enough fan base to get a number one on a country chart. Her talent, work ethic, journey and determination deserves praise without one.
I get what you saying but why yall be so mad when beyonce does it?? & tbh you asking where was the love for k michelle country music, well were was our black folks at supporting, buying, & streaming her music?? It start with us. Where was yall at??? So how about now we changed the goal post & like at it as well since beyonce is putting out her country album it can also shines the light on more black country artists who been doing it so they can get their recognition they rightfully deserve. You should be happy a BLACK woman like beyonce is breaking barriers & the first black woman to get a number one on the country billboard, you should be happy for another fellow black woman. That’s the crab in the bucket mentality OUR people have to wake out of. Let’s support k michelle country album when it comes out
You always do a great job pulling together the facts! I truly enjoyed this. I am not going to lie I don’t know anything about country music so it’s great to learn about more black artist’s music in the space.
I think what some of these people need to understand is a lot of these artists aren’t trying to break barriers. A lot of them really just love the genre and just want to be able to do the music that they love. It doesn’t have to be politicized but unfortunately the people who want to try to gate keep it are making it that way. No more. Doors are about to be opened and I’m glad to see it. I love to see people doing what they love to do with no limits. I love that this channel highlights a lot of these artists that I may not have heard of. Let’s support!
I’ve watched your commentary for years and I just want to say that I love what you do. Your research and story telling is just amazing and consistently professional. It’s criminal you are not more popular than this. Well done!
You mean Erykah is looking for attention and having a one sided beef with Beyoncé bc she's mad her 1st baby daddy is enamored with her since Hey Yah and recently cleared a song with Beyoncé on the title 10+ years after his verse on "Party"
@@AngeBiampandouwe don’t know if it’s one sided. That’s the thing, we aren’t in their circles but the way these tell alls are coming out I wouldn’t be surprised.
Thank you for the list of black country artists. I'm about to stream them all and show them some love. And thank you for your channel. It's refreshing!
What is so funny about the braided beaded look is that it dates back over a thousand years ago where priestesses would wear their hair with the beads shrouding their faces.
I thought “Renaissance” was going to be her biggest impact but “Cowboy Carter” is gonna top it. I went to her concert for my birthday and I pray I get to go to her next concert once she announces it
THANK You for this video! As someone who has always loved folk and roots and blues and midcentury to early 80s country of the likes of Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton I am so excited to start exploring this amazing long list of Black country artists that I've never heard of! I have so much love for K Michelle as a person from Love & Hip Hop but I am so excited to discover her current brand of music. Such love for this post, and the reality of country music's history.
What ppl don't realize about a big artist crossing over into a genre is that the unknown or under exposed artists will get pushed as well! That's why some ppl are pissed because like ALWAYS they feel threatened 😅
@@talitam.8414 You missed the Entire point…this is NOT the first time she’s been accused of copying…besides this Hairstyle wasn’t the only time she stole from erykah
My daughter Gabby Jane did country music back in 1997......and she's Biracial,Gabby has worked and met with Faith Hill and her husband, her music played on the radio.....I wrote all of their songs, I'm glad Beyonce' can afford to get it out there like that, however must include those who are less fortunate, and remember Gabby helped pave the way too for other biracial black female country artist.....I'm proud of everyone ❤️❤️Thanks Ms.Carter🎉
I feel like Aloe Blacc should be considered a country artist as well... We never see ppl mention him but we definitely need to give him his country music flowers.
*👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Well done Empressive. I'm not a fan of country music, but I love how you highlighted many country artists of color. You have been one of my fav content creators for many years.*
And most black people are still going to continue not supporting them as soon as all of this mess dies down. She should’ve promoted these people a long time ago if she really gave a damn.
Empressive! Thank you for covering this topic and really highlighting the tremendous amount of super talented black country artists. This was very enlightening! Feels good to know that there are so many great black country artists out there but sad to see how little support they get in the industry. I plan on supporting them!
Erykah Badu been saying this for years. I don’t know why she keeps repeating it. If you feel like she’s coping you it is what it is. *RICK JAMES* started that hair do you’ll be alright.
Rick James didn't started it. It's been done for milenia in Africa and got passed down during slavery. Stevie Wonder was doing it before Rick James big break
@@AngeBiampandou of course. I just watched the video where she explained the origin. The first person I personally saw wearing that style religiously was Rick Jamesz

I’m definitely going to start looking up these beautiful artists, and support! I love that you have shown the light, and helped via your platform put these artists out there for all to listen to and follow. Thank you so much! Beyoncé always struck me as someone who listened to country music. Y’all can’t tell me that she doesn’t listen to Martina McBride I would love to hear her cover “Where Would You Be”. Also Beyoncé and Dolly Parton anyone?
When Bey dropped her new music, I was instantly hooked and impressed that I was inspired to look for other country artist but my search came up empty. I really appreciate you making this video to put a spotlight on the country artist already out here. THANK YOU! Now I can really be in my country era.
EXCELLENT deep-dive video which showcased the full range of different types of country music by Black artists - some staying traditional...some employing new genres to infuse woth country elements...while being solo, duo, or group presentations. Many artists for us to support. I wish them all success!!!❤❤❤🙏🏾🌹
its tough to be Beyonce. I dind't realize she had SO MANY HATERS FOR NO EFFING REASON. like what? wtf? like why? for being great at what she does? for doing her JOB? my goodness.
If you are a fan, you know Erykah is trolling. She loves to joke, be petty, and play the dozens. However, Bey do be copying folks and not giving them credit.
@@jzloveinfinite Yes, she's trolling, but is she going to do it EVERYTIME somebody bites her style? She just called Beyonce out not too long ago about the hat. She called Solange out years ago about a trench coat that she had first. She know's she's a trend-setter, be flattered & move on.
Beyonce is the reason why I went on a black Country search. Now I listen to most of the artists you listed. Shaboozey is my absolute favorite. I looove his Cowboy music and I am just impatiently waiting on his album. 😂
Thank you for recognizing that Beyoncé did not put the all American royalty stamp on Black people and country music. The way media is portraying her to be! I still am not happy about the way they have forgotten about a lot of the black women and people who have tried to go in the country before Beyoncé it’s just a fact that they don’t have the conglomerate behind them the way she does! There is a lot of good country music out there that are actually black, country artist that’s not Beyoncé! I do appreciate you and the way that you put this mini Doc together
WTH?! This is so cool! Especially the mother-daughter soul country duo!! Why are people so hell-bent on putting stipulations and rules on people based on what they look like?! I'll never understand it. This idiotic mindset makes people miss out on so many amazing people and things! SMH
I just have to say I appreciate the work you put into this video. I love that you really highlighted all the people who were putting in work before Beyonce. She is definitely going to bring a new group of fans and attention to the genre but this video gave so many more artist to support as well. I’m here for her killing any genre she chooses to enter because she is just that talented and needs to be respected way more for her love of her art. We focus on her beauty and fashion but I love that she has always challenged herself as an artist. When she made her all female band I still think people didn’t salute that enough. I really hope we get back to just making music and drop the racist mess that has been promoted of late. Music has always been our universal language, salute to Beyonce and all the artist who keep fighting to keep the essence 🫡🌟💜🥰👑💯🎯
