Why are people comparing her? It's just a tribute smh, why can't you just enjoy it

I like how Beyoncé made it sound like Beyoncé and didn’t force Etta’s style on her self... both versions are amazing but I hate seeing people cover this song and try to sound just like Etta but then fail at it bc it doesn’t sound genuine bc it’s not their voice style.

You guys shaming Beyonce for not sounding like an Etta-clone....guess what; your expectations are never gonna be fulfilled. Etta was a one of a kind vocalist; and original. Beyonce was just paying tribute to her, and let's be honest, she rather added to the song's longevity, as the people of the newer generations would rather give Beyonce a listen than Etta. Bey is a living legend, and she is in no way responsible to impersonate any other artist for whatever reason, her voice is unique in its own way, and she did her job greatly. :D

Etta actually said that she didn't like the fact that Beyoncé was the one asked to sing "At Last" at the inauguration instead of her! That was horrible. Now i know why Etta did not like Beyonce singing her song and only liked christinas. As to Christina vs Beyonce? Christina has 4.5 octaves to utilize very similar to mariahs 5 and whitneys 5. Beyonce only has a 3 octave range and she sings with no soul. Christina is not hurting her voice she still sings in all octaves. She just doesn't care what what people say about "how she should sing" . In fact "sing for me" is the song she wrote about it and its amazing. Beyonce will never be able to hold a candle to christinas voice. All Beyonce does is do "woos" to ho hit higher notes and toss her big ass weave around to pretend she is dancing.

Besides her true fans I don't think public knew the Etta James was still alive let alone still performing, smalls gigs but still singing. It was only after her complaint about the Obama hiring Beyoncé to sing "At Last" at his inauguration ball did media/public take notice. Then suddenly this segment of her being honored suddenly pops up in an upcoming awards show; granted Etta Being honored for her talent & achievements are loong over due. But this entire thing seemed rushed. That may be why some people found this tribute insincere.....

It is not that Beyonce cannot perform "yellow pages, upside down,inside out" it is that she do not want to perform oldies. Her voice and stage presents is so strong when she is singing soul, r&b that she can compete with all of the great singers from the last century. It is sad that in all of her career she didn't record an album or two of those golden songs. I will be the first in line to pay good money for that records!

Etta's version was gritty, bad girl. Emotion! I love Beyonce but her version is so sanitized and Hollywood! Not the same!

Who cares if Etta didn't Beyonce's version, it's not even Etta's song (originally). And Beyonce is technically a better singer. Etta only had more soul; everything else Beyonce could/can do with better technique & skills. Beyonce also sang her other Etta James covers superior than the originals (minus soul). Etta is clearly bitter & jealous because she looked satisfied after listening to this performance, but then had the nerve to say she didn't like it during an interview. Also Christina is a non-factor because she butchered this songs at Etta's funeral. Horrifying screaming occurred.

I recall that Etta James was a bit 'salty' about Beyoncé performing for Mr. Obama, but the bitterness was bourne out of being passed over in favor of Beyoncé to sing before the 44th President. Keep in mind, Beyoncé was young, pretty, and highly popular. Add to that, the current generation connected with the popularity of "Cadillac Records" and Beyoncé's role in it. It was a no-brainer. But consider this: while Beyoncé did a fantastic job with "At Last" (I rank it only slightly below Etta's); Ms James will always reign supreme. The portrayal and vocal performances by Beyoncé in the film strive to capture the essence of Miss Jamesetta, and therefore are quite the tribute to Etta James' brilliance!

Beyonce lacks the BALLS that Etta James sang with, as unfitting as that term may be. Etta has a roar in her voice while Beyonce is all about singing high and shaking her voice. Look on youtube, just about every girl with a bare minimum talent can do that. It's rare to find a girl that can sing like Etta James and Janis Joplin.

Well,I have to say that although I luv Christina Aguilera, I really prefer beyonce right here..she sang this perfectly..with that said,i luv xtinas grit but her runs are just too much..they are so much at times,that it throws her off timing in the start to finish of the verse,an going into the next verse..that's just my opinion..an I am a huge Christina fan..when it comes down to it,its not about how big a fan I am but it's about who sang it better an beyonce won, hands down..

Clearly, ballads are not Beyoncé's forte, she seems to go flat in the middle of singing them. Sorry, I'm not a vocal trainer but I know that you have to feel ballads and put your soul into it, and Beyoncé is not there yet. But she is a great performer and can sing the heck out of songs that are more up beat. If you listen to Etta's version next to Beyoncé's, maybe you'll understand what I'm trying to say.
