I added a Mummy in my 2nd edition interpretation of the Boston chronicle of Mage Awakening. It was my newly awakened Mage group, each dealing with supernaturals in their own background. The Obrimos Derwish cultist had a super orthodox Derwish family who was secretly running a religious underground groups that saves children from muslim families from cults...so they knew about Mummies and their cults. Yet they are basically hunters and also hunt down Mages, Vampires, and all other evil super naturals that are against the onenes with god. So he was aimed to free a person from a Mummy cult while the cult was all about stealing a Sarcophagus plate from a Museum in Boston... The Moros Haitian Houngan had a brother that came over from New Orleans. Both grow up as Orphants in New Orleans. Right after his Awakening the Brother also a Houngan and a Vampire of the Circle of the Crown visited him and showed him the Supernatural neutral ground Club scene...and I stole a plot from another Chicago...the club had a Ghost fettering or possesing the DJs and leaking informations about the Vampires in the city as revenge on the species that killed him in the clubs toilett. The Acanthus Orphaned Students Parents were Stigmatics of a Lifetime lengthening hightech cult of Angel. A Demon killed them in a setup car "accident" the day they were to move into the Infrastructure of the Cult. After awakening he thought he could find out who killed his parents and fled the scene....It was pretty hard to confront that Demon as he too could time travel "4 minutes back" when ever he thought something worked out bad for him... I was a bit unsure how to detect demons...in mage 2e I think it needed the combined mage sight of Fate and Prime. So the whole chronic was kind of X-Over. Plus the Mages were all reborn souls of Mages that died in the Mollasses Disaster in Boston 1919 , Their mystery plays surrounded around that event, and they all awakened exactly 100 years after it happened. This disaster was off course a Attack on the Pentacle Mages of 1919 by the seers. After the Mystery play each char gained consciousness at on of the bases of a Baseball Diamant that is now at the place of that former mollasses tank. You can't imagine how sad I was that I had not read the Mummy 2nd book at that time...So I had to build everything on the bases of the fandom wiki...
Glad to be of help! Trying to detect Demons technically would work with Mage Sight. But Demons can always spoof being human. You could try to brute force scanning for them. Additionally 4 minutes back only works 4 minutes into the past. So if they get into a situation where the trap isn’t sprung till 5 minutes after they are already in it.
3:18 Irem is not the name of the Nameless Empire(otherwise it wouldn't be Nameless), Irem was its chief city. Egypt and its ruins are not its remains, but a successor state that was a shadow of the Empire's greatness.
It’s been hard to discern the nature of Irem vs Nameless Empire in the book. Because the term Iremite is used to denote the artifacts from the nameless empire as well as the language used.
@@AwkwardGMCorbin very true, I think the writers(Suleiman included) realized at a certain point how awkward it is to describe something of or from somewhere that doesn't have a name. 'Namelessite'? It just doesn't work, so people use Iremite instead. I really love Mummy, it's very bold and creative but it does have its awkward points.
Thank you for this video and the other ones u did! I was wondering, as gm, when I'll start playing Mummy, what I can suggest to my players that always consider their background very important? In a game where memory is lost or fade, how they can write a background for their mummies?
Usually you’ll want to cover their memories of Irem first. I believe they are the first memories they remember. For my Mummy PC I told my Storyteller that his backstory involved a wife that was an Immortal who would reincarnate a few decades before he rises. Additionally you can ask what types of interactions or relationships the PCs want to have without having them specifically elaborate on every detail about an NPC. Such as saying they want to meet someone who will be a close friend as opposed to saying their best friend is the waitress at a diner they go to.
