Pretty sure all of the clips are already up on youtube, if anyone feels like doing some detective work. Based on the conversation, I suspect that these are the Python clips: Concorde: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J4a3v3pk4TM.html Awful Family: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FZB20bXhMDE.html Dead Parrot (O2, you already have the original memorized): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w56aenSziQE.html

The first clip would have been the Frenchmen and the flying sheep, from the first Python episode to be recorded (which was transmitted second) - hence the references to the stick-on moustaches and Brian Trubshaw (Vive Brian, wherever you are) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QpbGPLEWhj8.html

I agree, ripping yarns is one of my favourite programs. I wore the video tapes out and was so grateful when a mutual friend of my parents and Michael were invited to visit his house for guy faulkes and as an 18 year old received a signed copy of the published scripts. I still have and read them regularly. They bring so much joy - regards markc xxx

I’ve just rediscovered Ripping Yarns on RU-vid. But I remember each episode. And how well it keeps its freshness. Wonderful post-Python. And you’re right. Ripping Yarns should have been mentioned for its all round dramatic and comedic excellence. I’m 62 and Sir Michael is an inspiration. I saw Monty Python live at Drury Lane in 1975.

If I had to pick a favorite Python, it would be Michael, but they were all amazing. I once got to work with Graham Chapman and then hang out with him for a bit afterwards, and one of my very fondest memories was actually making him laugh at my ridiculousness. That was more than 40 years ago and nothing has really topped it since.

I can't believe no-one's asked you what you did to make Graham Chapman laugh! Go on fella, spill the beans.
@haeuptlingaberja4927
@haeuptlingaberja4927 11 месяцев назад
@@lpsp442 Thanks for asking, as it really is one of my favorite stories. It was the early 80s, and I was maybe 20 years old, and I was working spotlights and pre-concert cable gaffing at a little community college just outside of Chicago, a job that didn't pay much but which allowed me to meet and work with people as diverse as Muddy Waters and the Psychedelic Furs...and many, many more. So, Graham was conducting a speaking tour after he had finally sobered up, and the first time I made him (very involuntarily) laugh was right after the show, when he and his small entourage were leaving the venue at the same time I was, and I just couldn't help but break into Cleese's "whereupon I curtailed my Walpoling activities and sallied forth in search of cheesy comestibles" speech, whereupon Graham chuckled and turned around, saying, "Who is that lunatic with the terrible British accent?" Turns out that he was actually curious enough to ask one of his facilitators to find me and invite me to an after party he was attending. When I arrived shortly thereafter, I found that the great man was already ensconced behind a chess table, in front of which a queue was already forming. Seizing my chance at actually speaking to him one on one, I immediately jumped in line. Within just a few minutes, the two people in front of me were easily dispatched and it was my turn. Even before the first move he smiled and said, "So you're the Python loonie who made me laugh after that grim affair." Smiling to break my jaws, I of course said, "It's a fair cop, guv'nor," which elicited yet another smile. But then, maybe 3 moves in, Chapman sat back in his chair, relit his pipe and said, "You don't really play chess, do you?" At which point it was my turn to so heartily laugh that it actually affected Graham, who joined me in my delirium. We chatted for a few more moments about me, of all things, all the while pretending to play chess, until he finally said, "Good luck to you, young man. You've managed to make me laugh, which doesn't happen every day, but I fear that the natives in this silly line have grown restive." Taking my cue, I thanked him for his patience and sallied forth in search of other comestibles. The whole exchange only took a few ticks off the clock of my inexplicably long life, but it has stayed with me, indelibly, all these years.

Reassuring to hear that Michael was at the TWW studios on the Bath Road, Bristol in 1965 a couple of weeks after I was born, just a short distance away. Happenstance or serendipity perhaps, but I always knew there must have been a good reason for my arriving and, apart from a wonderful family and happy Bristolian upbringing, being able to enjoy a lifetime of Palin-induced smiles has made the whole trip more worthwhile - thanks Michael!

I can understand (only just) the legal reasons of cutting out clips they're discussing, but Q&A part was a joke. It is not so complicated technically to have a wireless microphone that someone could pass to an audience member. No excuse for that even if this Q&A was Brydon's ad hoc idea. If you're capable of involving and inviting people such as Palin the whole thing should be more professional. Seriously, if I was working for Palin's management I'd suggest either taking it off YT or at least including some subtitles.
