It seems more like Valenwood is working on plants primarily due to relying on them in order to form the basic structure of the province, and likely just not having as many developers as it deserves.
Argonia: It’s in a playable state and quest development is looking strong. Very enjoyable process and we are loving the work flow. Also check out these fully custom voiced, modeled, and animated npcs! Valenwood: IGHT YO Check it! So we got dis rough draft of a LEAF! Ain’t da final product but we stoked bout how it came out. Group effort is top tier! So proud of the team 💯😤✊✊
Not gonna lie, it’s a boss move. I also think it’s very impressive aswell. The fact they have an efficient way to make all the foliage needed is definitely super important. Art assets is a nightmare to do without a proper pipeline for both consistency and speed
@@ShizzyMcCreepy Yeah if it is still in art phase for materials needed just to start filling out map blocks its not even really started at this time. Never or 10 years out....
@@Deno2100 plus even when they have a lot of assets they’ll do the same thing other projects are doing and just start deleting assets because they’re “outdated” and go in that endless cycle the other projects are in
@@ShizzyMcCreepy That's not how BS work tbh, we didn't delete any assets just replaced some in some projects because they didn't fit anymore but we never delete them unless there are new ones that can replace them instantly.. also if you are referring to IB deleting assets those would have been deleted anyway as they were assets made in the early 2000s and weren't even on base skyrim quality
The other projects got started alot sooner if I recall corrrectly so I think this one probably isnt as developed. But when the others get close to finishing I imagine they wont need alot of the volunteers for the other projects and this, as well as any others left, will probably skyrocket in support
This is brilliant. Starting with the core, the essence of Valenwood, is the best move ever. Don't get discouraged ! You are building something unique, I'm sure of it. A green cathedral worldspace... Valenwood was my dream since Morrowind Can't wait !!! (... But I will. )
yes, but at the end of the day the hit boxes and hit registration is hardcoded in and is pretty dang janky.... There are so many amazing mods but this is such a fundamental problem. @@s.r.v.f.7298
Everyone Else on Beyond Skyrim CMC: Look at this cool dungeon! Look at this cool creature! Look at my cool city! Listen to this voice acting and music! Look at our writing! Look at our crazy weather effects! Look at our animations! Valenwood Team: plants...plants...plants...Plants...PLants...PLAnts...PLANts...PLANTs...PLANTS...PLANTS! PLANTS!! PLANTS!!! PLANTS!!!! PLANTS!!!! PLANTS!!!!! et infinitum.
This is gonna be incredible guys. You'll make it. We'll be waiting for you. Finding out a way of making plants as organic as can be, that really was the most awesome thing to do for Valenwood.
I can’t think of any other game series that has had such a devoted and active fanbase that works on fan projects for literal decades, first with Tamriel Rebuilt with Morrowind back in the early 2000s and now Beyond Skyrim that has content planned that are still many years to come, but worth the wait.
as a 3D artist i must say that this pipeline development is a great start to the expansive work that's going to be made for the vast vegetation in valenwood, it isn't as impressive as the gameplay from the other teams but it's already a solid start, I'd like to sign up to help people work on procedural workflows but I'm busy with a ton of stuff
I like how the showcase video of each part Tamriel all has its own style. For Cyrodiil and Iliac Bay, "Let's play early access" For Atmora, "You won't see anything outside" For Roscrea and Argonia, "Production Documentary" For Elswyer, "Plot Twist" And for Valenwood, looks like "Skillshare"
its great to see Valenwood getting stuff started. it's probably going to be one of the most challening provinces to make because of the whole "our people live on moving treehouses" thing. That said im sad that Summerset was shelved back in the day so i hope this one and Elsweyr gives us enough Aldmeri Dominion related stuff. As much as the Thalmor were annoying to deal with in Skyrim we barely got anything related to them during the game. they are just, there. can't even visit the Embassy again after the main storyline.
Looking at the quality of these trees, my laptop isn't gonna handle this. However by the time it's done, I'm pretty sure I'll have a new computer anyways
Good on whoever organized this for not committing to a vertical slice. It is clearly too early, and would umfocus development effort. Besides, assets are applicable across projects.
I'd really like seeing Valenwood built on the Skyrim system, and it's good to know the early people working on it put a lot of care into the plants since it's a jungle province. Unfortunately, while Roscrea, Cyrodiil, Atmora, and Argonia all seem to be going really well, Valenwood barely seems started, and I'm not sure if we'll actually see it before TES VII appears. Cyrodiil has had about a decade, and while showing exceptional work done on it, is unlikely to finish before TES VI releases, which should be 4-6 years. A project so early in development is both nice to see as an idea, and mildly depressing when considering it might not actually get finished in time for people to play it more and enjoy it. More so with this one since Valenwood is probably the prettiest part of Tamriel, and has some of the more interesting stuff in it, aside from maybe High Rock.
I'll be honest, I know valenwood is very nature oriented, its in the name, but I do feel like this was a weird showcase, yay for detail, but a lack of physical world spaces probably damaged the view of folk on the valenwood team. I know alot of modders decided to restart due to covid, but I think this one shows either there is a small team doing an area theyre just not ready for, or that you're really taking your time. who knows, I do hope all of these release, but I was hoping for all of them to have something solid to show, and even a pre-release like bruma, but oh well.
the point of the showcase was to show how they are setting up an effective workflow, Valenwood is still in the asset production phase, it did not restart. These tools are very exciting since it's showing how the most difficult part of the project is being tackled with a plan. Too many projects get held back by assets. LD can't start without it.
Noob question, but is Valenwood a temperate forest or a rainforest? Those broad leaves suggest rainforest, but I always pictured in my head the Valenwood trees described by Dragonlance which were like supersized oak trees that you could build houses in, and then ash, cedar, pine & maple. Do I just have the complete wrong idea on what Valenwood's predominant biome is?
@colewright3790 Thanks. Because Elder Scrolls uses so many names from Dragonlance, I tend to let it guide my mind. For example wayrest in High Rock vs Wayrest near Qualinost, or Sylvanesti, & Qualinesti as the high elves and wood elves capitol cities in Dragonlance vs Falinesti as the wood elves capitol city in elder Scrolls. And then of course there's the valenwood trees in Dragonlance vs Valenwood the country in Elder Scrolls.
Almost certainly TES VI. TES VI will release in 3-5 years. Valenwood is probably closer to 6-8 years away. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Keep in mind there are still people making and playing Morrowind mods today. The nice thing about Bethesda games is that they are evergreen. My grandkids will probably be able to pick up Skyrim and enjoy it, and I don't even have kids yet.
With Valenwood you have to remember that the Bosmer are forbidden by their creator Y'ffre to use the natural environment for resources, only the animals and people may be used. Any buildings are formed through magical manipulation of the environment so wood etc would not be used to make doors or furniture. "But Y'ffre took the Ooze and ordered it. First, she told of the Green, the forest and all the plant life in it. She gave the Green the power to shape itself as it willed, for it was her first tale. The Elves were Y'ffre's second tale. As Y'ffre spun the story, the Elves took the form they have today. Y'ffre gave them the power to tell stories, but warned them against trying to shape themselves or the Green. Shifting and the destruction of the forest were forbidden. Instead, Y'ffre commended the Wood Elves to the Green, so that they might ask the Green to provide them with shelter and a safe passage, and as long as they respected the Green, it would obey."
if you want an alternative way to build a city not yet done in Elder Scrolls, I feel like some region needs floating cities similar to the logging camps in Vancouver Canada or in more marshy areas in the tropics. Just an idea :)
The Valenwood project was only just started. Game development, especially volunteered modding like this, takes a *very* long time. What they're showing off here is a tool that will help make this process a lot easier and aid in the construction of the world space and 3D assets. Give the team some more time and I'm sure they'll have some amazing stuff to showcase!
Not one to complain but... You just pulled some meshes around in Blender the whole video. And before anyone says "That's more than you can do Nuverotic.", no. I am actually a 3D artist myself. This is why I'm pointing out the obvious. I'm not complaining about where the project is at, what they're doing, how long it's taking, nothing at all like that. Super happy you're working on Plants. I am. But, did we need 8 minutes of you explaining how 3D modeling works in general? lol. I mean come on. We don't need a video until you're ready to show something. Don't waste your time. Just work on your assets. We'll be here waiting. Don't feel like you have to create a video until you're ready.
Tropical plants in a subtropical environment? Texas, Zimbabwe, New Delhi, Hong Kong, Milan, or Brisbane are not exactly known for banana plants... as in they don't naturally grow in subtropical biomes nor do they even fit in visually.
They don't. Most projects were started around 2011/2012. The last projects to join were Atmora (2015) and Valenwood (2022) Both projects already existed under different names before joining Beyond Skyrim.
@@K_1_T_S_U_N_E its still self destructive if they concentrated at one province at a time they would have released a few of them by now. If Bethesda releases the next elder scrolls game before these guys or worse if they make all of tamriel playable then this project is over.
@@nolanlewis538- You make a mistake. Beyond Skyrim is NOT one team. They are multiple teams that share assets and a name. Also they cannot be forced to work on a province they have not interested in. The Cyrodiil guys are here to work on Cyrodiil, not Morrowind, not Atmora. Either they work on Cyrodiil under the Beyond Skyrim name or independent.
The only one of these I have found entertaining to watch has been the one for Argonia. Dont get me wrong the work being done on all of these is great but god damn this and all the others have been VERY dull and boring to watch.
Okay can you stop with the trees and leaves already and do the important stuff. Not that trees and leaves aren't important in Valenwood of all places but jesus christ. "The most important thing to us is that the plants look organic as possible." May I suggest that the most important thing to you should be making a fun mod with immersive lore and interesting story lines. And of course, actually getting it finished. Not wasting your time making the most realistic leaves of all time. I do honestly respect you guys immensely for using your spare time to bring us this amazing mod. But it seems your priorities are questionable. The Bruma preview was amazing (Yes I know that's a different team but I am using it as an example). It was. It doesn't need any more tweaking really. It's good to go. There was one annoying texture error I noticed but whatever. Don't aim too high. I just want to explore the rest of Tamriel. I couldn't care less how realistic the leaves are.
you really shouldn't be so entitled over a mod project made entirely by unpaid volunteers that will also be available for free since release. contrary to what you may believe, the people working on beyond skyrim are not intentionally focusing on "not important stuff" as you put it. asset creation is one of the most painfully slow steps of development, but also one of the most important ones to properly set the tone for the entire experience, and what they're presenting us with is a revolutionary tool to make it go faster, which will then be shared across all the different teams. if you want to see it release sooner, maybe instead of leaving such a rude comment, join up yourself and contribute with whatever little skills you have.
I know you are doing great work and it's probably not easy, but I'm kinda starting to lose faith. I mean, it was all supposed to be ready by 2020-2021. But hey, it wil still be one of the greatest mods of Skyrim!
@@wildzz21channel3 Yeah Roscrea will release long before Cyrodiil will without a doubt, hopefully within a decently short timeframe, but who knows what will happen ofc.
This felt like a star citizen episode (inside star citizen). Edit: made the first comment half way thru the video. SO.... Look im gonna level with you. Send the team lead to PMP school or find someone new. Even as an all volunteer project this wasnt good. With that said. Shake off the fact that every team dunked on you, learn from your mistakes, look for mentorship from your peers on the other team and push forward.
@theyodanesss their progress is sub par. Just starting or not. I don't hate them for it or dislike them... but I'm not gonna sugar coat it... they simply need to do better. Plants and the details are great HOWEVER this is something that should get refined to this level of detail towards the end of the project and could even be updated after a release. They are too much deep in the weeds to early.
@@theyodanesss I've already stated my position. I'll state it like this, when constructing a building, a physical brick and mortar building... Do you first build the couch, chairs and picture frames that go in it? Or do you survey the land, take measurements, determine where water run off is etc which ultimately leads to working and shaping the land in preparation for concrete to be pour for a solid foundation.
@theyodanesss and I get that and agree with HOWEVER... nearly 8 min dedicated to plants. It should be a footnote. That tells me and every other viewer... no dialog has been worked on, no quest designers, map builders, nothing. Plants was all they got. Good looking plants but if that is all there is to show for...
@theyodanesss I recall viewing but no details specific. Which if I'm being honest now... concerns me further cause what all happened between then and now.
will there be a curse placed on the Bosmer that pick the vegetation or hurt any of the greenery whether or not they were born in Valenwood? I hope so! Y'ffre needs to be taken seriously along with the green pact lol
