I owe a very, very special THANKS to ISH. After I watched this video and applied the techniques of my favorite frog fisherman, I landed my very FIRST FISH on a FROG. I had been trying to learn to work a frog for weeks but I couldn't get the hang of it. ISH makes it look so natural that I thought I can do this". Next thing I know the water was like a mine field in a warzone, BLOWING UP EVERYWHERE! Thanks again buddy!
Been a steelhead fishermen all my life in the PNW. Now that my kids are getting to the right age to start fishing I am taking up bass fishing. Thanks for the informative video that I can use with my family while we are out fishing.
I thought the first one was a nice chunk, but that second one was an absolute HAWG!! One of the best videos I have seen about frog fishing. Outstanding job, Ish!
All the people trashing him over 65 lb braid, I don't get it. When fishing heavy cover (as you normally are when frogging), you need strong, durable line to get through the moss, weeds, lilies, etc. Braided line doesn't stretch, which is important when frogging. Anyone who knows anything about bass fishing will tell you fluoro line is a no go for topwater lures. It sinks and will hinder the action of your lure. Mono has too much stretch, IMHO. Braided line has a much smaller diameter per pound of test than other lines. The maxima 65 lb he uses has a diameter of 0.016 inch which is equal to 17 lb test monfilament. Look into topwater frog fishing before you talk Ish in the internet (see what I did there?), you just might find out that he knows what he's talking about. I mean, shoot.... it's not like he's a top pro bass fisherman, right? That is known as one of if not THE best with that particular lure.(all respect to Dean Rojas!)... get off your high horse...lol. it's fishing.
Kryptonite357 My last trip I used heavy braid. My worm got caught on something and I was determined to get that damn worm back (in a kayak btw). Im reeling this thing in and it pulls my kayak right on top of the snag. After a few seconds of reeling hard I see my worm snagged on a branch. A full tree branch that washed in the river after a recent flood. I love heavy braid.
You have to use braid, i use 40, n it works fine in my area lily covered, i was using 50, but to throw a bit farther is worth it. ,,,is there pulls my n my yak
You already had my attention when you said you caught a bass with a gopher in its mouth. Then you threw a frog that looks like Cookie Monster under a dock that was 10” above the water. Then you caught a freakin pig at the end. I have loved topwater forever and frogging over the last year and watch videos on it regularly. This was great footage. Thanks, Ish.
Insane catching that bass in all that green! Great example on how to use that frog. I never ever would of thought of fishing like this. Thanks for the input! I'm sold on the frogs!
Lollll I thought the EXACT same thing!! Was like, Ummmm so about the part where no water gets inside....you'll never have to squeeze water out of it....etc" loll SMDH -__-
I just started fishing this summer. the little lake next to my place is absolutely riddled with lilypads, but has really decent pike. kept losing lures to the damn lilypads. dunno how i first heard of them, but eventually i ordered some frogs to deal with the issue. and man, let me tell you: nothing quite like a pike striking a frog! like a goddamned freight train! real good way to learn how to hook set: the wake before the strike gives you some warning and lets you really figure out when you're too early or too late
Can't get over the accuracy of your casts. If I tried that there would be about $200 in lures stuck all over those docks. Then I would go for a stiff drink and sell what's left of my fishing gear.
***** so true with the birds best, there's a RU-vid video on here that shows a very good way to get birdsnest out of baitcaster...works really well. I bought my first baitcaster two years ago and it's in my garage collecting dust. Lol..but after I watched that video I recently rigged it back up and I'm gonna give it another go this Sunday.
braided line and haulin them straight to the boat without letting them put up a fight, found my new favourite fisherman... that's exactly what I do on any type of bait 🤣
These are still some of the best frogs on the market, maybe the best. They walk great, and I love how they sit down low in the water. I've got both versions. I have and use 4 different colors, and I've found that covers pretty much any kind of conditions I fish in. White, Clear, Black/Yellow and the Sticky Green color. Sticky Green probably being my favorite.
Dude i just bought the papa midnight frog you showed yesterday without even knowing who you were or watching this video man i cant wait to try it to see if it works bro
The best part of fishing is fighting with the fish and getting that feel of him pulling and trying to get away not to just pull him in without any fight.
Its called tournament fishing. First of all, they have time limits in tournaments and they need all the time they are given to catch another. Second, a Fish is basically their pay.
+llonewolff and another note, fighting a fish is bad for their well being. the longer the fight, the less chance of a good release. I could be fishing 8lb line, hook a 12lb catfish on an ultralight rod, and still muscle them in, like I did yesterday. the shorter the fight the better for the fish
@11:34. Bro! My man Ish just pulled a PIG out the water bro! Al Linder & Larry Dahlberg (the inventor of the Whopper Plopper) are a couple of my favorite Legendary Hall of Fame Fisherman. My guy Ish added to that list TODAY; while watching this video and after attending “class.” 🤣😂
I cat fished all night. Not a single bite. Fished a bobber, fished reasonable far out bottom, then way out on bottom. Not a single bite. But I grabbed a crappy Yellow frog from walmart last night $5.00. I hit a small pond this morning in the rain right at Daylight and I got 7 nice strikes. I did not land anything so I came her to see what I was doing wrong. Looks like I was doing it right just trying to set the hook to soon. If I can get strikes in a $5.00 frog imagine what I can do with a good frog (and not understanding when to set the hook). I am so excited to get these and fish them soon.
I just started froggin' new to fishing so far all I caught was a 2lb Bull Frog 😂 he was super aggressive. Even after I released him he kept coming back for more bangin' the frog.
I use 20lb. braided line on a MH 6'10" rod and it works wonders. Just slammed a nice 4 3/4 lb largemouth today and dragged him through an inch thick mat of moss. As long as you keep the pressure on the fish, you can slowly drag him through the moss and pick it up once within reach. Each to his own for sure, great video nonetheless. Though for beginners especially, definitely start out with heavy line. I started out using 50lb test when i first learned to use a baitcaster and started frogging
What a fat bass! I fish with frogs when the mist is still on the water in the very early morning. The bass are spooky, so I flip the frog in cover and let it sit for a couple minutes. I twitch it, and let her sit some more. Eventually, a fatty will bust through the cover and it is Miller time. Hey Ish, thanks for making your frog sink proof. The sinking scum frogs were a pain. Take care, Bill.
Very instructional. Info does agree with other vids. But man I got 9mins in. No fish. Yikes. Well I finished vid. Gotta say. Exceptional cast accuracy. Wow. I wish I could do that. Nice vid.
I have been frog fishing for almost 5 years now and I have pretty much mastered the art, but I have never seen a bass actually eat a live frog?? Do the actually eat them or is it the motion on top of the water that makes the bass bite??? I would really want to hear an legit answer from my favorite pro angler!!!! You are what got me into the frog style baits and have inspired me to design my own frog!!!! I call it the THE BIG BASS DADDY!!!!!!!!!!
Totally thought there were so many targets he was going to catch a fish. I cannot believe they didn't come up on certain areas. But yes, I have watched-ish and Dean Rojas and they are the best at frog fishing.
I'm probably half of the views on this video. That's some true work with the frog there man. I'm wondering where I can get your exact set up at. I can't walk the frog left handed though.
He’s leaving out the part where the fish wrapped around a stump, snapped the line...then his son bit down on a bowie knife, dove in the water and emerged 2 minutes later with his entire fist down the fish’s throat...pulled the lure out said “I bewieve this bewongs to me...” and threw the fish back in the water while his dad stood there with his jaw on the ground and a puddle slowly spreading at his feet. ....at least that’s how my imagination sees it going down....I could be wrong.
You must not know who he is. He absolutely kills it with the frogs. He pulled up multiple 5 plus pounders with frogs at a recent flw tournament in the ca delta. Google ish Monroe
FLW - is that Rod/Reel/Braid sold as a combo anywhere or just piece it together? Could we get links to each piece? I just started frog fishing and am using an older Curado reel and heavy 7' rod, but would not mind getting a new setup :) Are there other combos around that you would recommend for those on a budget?
Rod: www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_Steez_SVF-XBD_Frog_Rod/descpage-DSZBRC.html?from=flwo Probably the closest reel currently sold: www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_Zillion_HD_Casting_Reels/descpage-ZLHD.html?from=flwo Braid: www.tacklewarehouse.com/Maxima_Ultragreen_Braided_Line/descpage-MUBL.html?from=flwo If you're looking to do it on a budget, a Lew's SuperDuty reel and the Lew's rod at the price point that's right for you in a heavy action would probably be a good place to start.
Thank for the info ish i just master top water frog last year2019 this year2020 i pro master fogging myself lol been get more blow up this year getting alot of good fish using your and my style for top water frog
+Juan Carrillo A 7' medium pole is great for lighter stuff like spinners, crankbait, jerkbait, rapalas, worms/finnese fishing etc. A heavy or medium heavy rod is more ideal for frogs and punching. If your only getting one rod for now get a 7' medium rod.
+Juan Carrillo You'll be able to fish other things with the combo that Ish described, but it certainly isn't the most versatile deal around. If you truly want to do some of everything, you'd probably be better off choosing a lighter rod and lighter line.
