Look man, I don’t hate Tony as much as some other ppl, but this is asinine. Why you guys thought that the fan base would want to see this baffling to me. There’s the camp of fans that will never respect Tony and I get that. But there’s a completely different group of the fan base (myself included) that feels incredibly slighted at the fact the “aggressive retool” and the hometown boy coming home is Tony and not Johnny Gaudreau. It’s incredibly disrespectful and feels like a slap in the face. A player of Johnny’s caliber will not want to play in Philly again for many many years due to the ineptitude of the team on the ice and the horrendous contracts that prevent us from actually signing a superstar. But it’s okay guys! We gave up more of our future to overpay a defenseman who’s old team didn’t consider him good enough to pay him anymore than 3 mil. You literally could’ve picked any other player. Quite literally any other player being picked for this feature would’ve been better than Tony. Idk who is making the decisions for you guys, but between this and the Kevin Weeks shit you guys are doing a good job at looking just as out of touch as the front office.
Hopefully Torts can harness his strengths and take him to the next level. He was DOMINANT in the Playoffs last year for Carolina. Ellis is a loss, but TD might let us forget him.
