I think this is great. Kids need to see that learning can be fun and that aspiring to a future in tech is within their grasp. A lot of youth end up poorly educated because they don't encounter anything in school lights a fire in them. You can see that many of the students in this video are intrigued and inspired by the experience. If even one of them ends up in a STEM career as a result it could change the world.
Tom Robinson agreed. High school is not about actually learning things, it is about learning how to learn and finding you passion and motivation. Many people forget that information on its own is pretty much irrelavant. Basic education is about learning skills, not information. If kids learn how to work with innovative technology they will have a broader understanding on how technology works in general.
@@swaharmaman9410 High school is not about actually learning things, it is about learning how to learn..... most educated comment award goes to you lol!!!
Amazing. VR is a whole new frontier. When the computer came into schools it didn't transform them enough, the power of inertia is strong. Let's hope that Mr. Andrew's VR efforts can change the game. Millions of kids are bored and failing in this current system. if you don't like VR, keep reading a corporate-published textbook. It's not mandatory to join the future, just strongly encouraged!
My name is Miguel Guichard, i am 21 years old, live in Houston tx. Grew up in the south east all my life whent to all public schools. Dropped out in the 9th grade. I think that vr is the future. Growing up i was diagnosed with adhd. There is lots of kids that grow up like this. I love reading! Reading is my favorite subject. Most of the time, i would get lost in my teachers words. I think that every teacher teaches different. Keep in mind they are humans and make mistakes. Sometimes they let their pearsonal life get the best of them.. Vr makes learning easier beacause you don't have to imagine! My normal grades in reading A. If each kid had this tool growing up it would change his life. One pearson cannot change the world. We change the world. IF we give these kids the rigth tools to sucssed, nothing would be impossible for them. They are the future and we need to make sure they are getting the information they need. With vr there is no room for distraction. The information is literaly programmed to your brain. This is scary! Other then the fact that it may cause tumours its good. There is alot of kinetic energy in learning. There is alot of diffrent ways of learning. Things are always changing. This means new Information every time. Textbooks are a thing of the past, unnecessary money, weigth and trees being cut in all the ways. I am nobody but this is huge! Embrace the change or lose a stock. Employes that are ready to make you trees. Where where you when i was growing up, its not too late.
I like this idea 💡 you are totally right more people are hands on learners than anything. I think if it gets them exited about learning. More power to it.
From my own experience I believe that education problems are not always related to a lack of money but rather the competence of the educators. In many countries a teacher is seen as a really good and valuable job. That attracts competent, intelligent and motivated people to the job market. While in the US it is often seen as just a regular job. A good teacher does often not even a lot of money. Just a copy machine.
I'm a visual learner, when I was in school, I had to read a chapter multiple times to get it down. I find the virtual reality a good idea to some degree, but school districts should not extinct the text books or even teachers in that matter.
None of that shit amounts to a higher quality education. Certain technologies may enhance the learning experience, but spending should go towards better educators as well . As students we don't want vr or online textbooks, we prefer physical books and interactive classroom environments. The relationship between a student and quality teacher is essential, they are a schools most effective resource.
The majority of students don't care, and those who do would agree with my statement. Its not that the teacher is gone, its that the quality teacher is.
I don't know about physical books for school. I remember hauling 5-6 heavy textbooks around for years and really wishing for some lighter subjects. Kindle is a good alternative and you just need one for all textbooks in the world.
0:23 - it's because USA uses multiple choice answers format. That completely changes the way kids retain information. They just memorize words or numbers without understanding, and without understanding, they forget the information soon after. You want to increase achievement level for USA schools - removed multiple choices answers.
@@kudojay1840 I wasn't talking about vr learning, I was talking about failing school system and what can be done about it. Maybe you meant to direct your comment to someone else?
"US spends the most in the world in education"-- But you can do better than that by allocating less on military spendings, we need more people working and thinking together, ethically, and not waging wars just to take other countries' resources.
also creative stupid things like "common core" was not the right thing to do. Also, when a student refuses to do their work, don't let them do "credit recovery". Don't let them play on their phones, or disrupt classes.
Oh my god this sounds like the plot to some movie about horrible future where the children are brainwashed and never able to explore the world for themselves
I don't wanna learn like this I love reading parts of the history books when we popcorn each other in class, I love listening to my teacher go on for hours about Shakespeare and his plays and the Vikings and Anglo Saxons
Yo money don't mean shit if the kids ain't with this shits, you know? Those numbers that homeboy was spewing out in the beginning was just filler, if you ask me.
As a teacher, this is bull crap. VR can be a great tool but when teachers are sitting at their desk playing on their cell phone instead of teaching before VR, how is this going to change anything. The last thing students need is even more technology when they barely even know how to read.
Strapping phones to childrens faces is a really bad idea, not only because it will significantly increase their risk of brain tumors. These kids are being made to feel as if they cannot think or imagine without the aid of some technological device. All under the banner of "progress."
i'm not sure the radiation point is valid unless they're wirelessly connected to one network or another. aside from that, yeah, much better than lame textbooks. the kids are obviously super engaged too, which i'm assuming was a major problem before
How about virtual classrooms on a computer screen ? Does it have to be VR headsets that happens to be sold by the company that is producing this "documentary" ?
How is this teaching them? The issue isn't that school isn't fun or interesting, the issue is this BS, you can spend trillions on kids having fun but if you don't teach you will still produce idiots. The issue is exactly this fun first attitude, the issue is that schools entertain instead of teach.
lol were are you getting this type of thinking? ever got into a hobby or skill because you like4d it and it was a fun activity for you? thats how you get people to learn by making it fun, your mind is more interested in learning the subject when you enjoy the subject. VR allows people to learn in a whole new way and in a much more personal way, when you're in a science class and you can study microbiology by shrinking down to microscopic size and see all the organisms floating around it makes you want to learn more about our unvierse. VR will make learning better i garantee it
