Thanks for the shout out! Happy to help and share the excitement. :D I haven't purchased the hardcovers of HOTOE yet, but I like the idea of running it out of two hardcovers. The box set is awesome, but a bit unwieldy to transport. I agree with you on the gouging. I just wanted to read and play BTMOM, I'm a print guy, and now I can! I'm on Chapter 2 and love the logistics of the voyage and the main campaign personalities. So information rich on survival, aircraft, boats, materials etc.

It's an amazing scenario and and amazing book. I think the two column layout in BTMOM is much better than the original three-column as well. I'm a print guy as well, though if I ever get a chance to run HOTOE or BTMOM, I'll probably print out everything from the pdfs so I write all over it and take notes.

Very Cool, in the coming days, I hopefully will be able to order a copy of Mountains for myself. I already own a copy of the 2014 version of HoTE so I most likely will not pick it up but I am glad it's back in print for people because I paid a very pretty penny for that damn beautiful boxset. Anyway, thanks for sharing and you have a great day.

Nice! I really love both Call of Cthulhu and Pulp Cthulhu, but my players only want to play Pulp Cthulhu so I don't usually get a chance to look at these classic Call of Cthulhu adventures.

Well, you have a right to play what you want too. I'd say tell them for every so many sessions of Pulp, you'll be running some straight Call of Cthulhu for a session. If they're not willing to compromise, you need to figure out something better for yourself.

For me, Call of Cthulhu RPG books are among the best looking books out there, both in terms of cover art and the pages themselves. A lot of art, maps and overall polish. Horror on the Orient Express looks amazing. I do not own either of the books, but judging by the video, Beyond the Mountains of Madness does seem to be a little bit behind on that aspect. Maybe its the setting that don't lend itself to as many arts, but Horror on the Orient Express seems to have more pictures overall. I do believe that when the 7ed version of Beyond the Mountains of Madness is released it will be just as good if not better than Horror on the Orient Express.

I love how Chaosium books look. However, I'm still a sucker for black and white line art and simpler formatting of pages, personally. I love the elegant simplicity of Beyond the Mountains of Madness and a lot of the older, black and white books and magazines, personally. That being said, the new ones look fantastic as well.

Thanks for the vid. Quick question - is the BTMoM book a sewn or glued binding? That's a big book. I'm very tempted. I have the HoTOE box set and was lucky to get it for $100cdn and I have the Masks box set as well so BTMoM is the one big campaign I need to get.

I'm honestly not sure. After some research and according to a thread on RPG.net it's "A regular offset print run with sewn binding." It was also listed as that on the Chaosium Twitter. So, my guess is that it's sewn? They also changed it from the original three-column (which I don't care for) to two-column. I have the original in softcover and I was glad to get this one as a hardback, personally.

It is! I double checked my copy and it's listed as so on the Chaosium website.

Its a reprint of the previous kickstarted boxset. That came out effectively between 6th and 7th editions and was started for 7th with a conversion guide

I thought I heard you say that these new editions are still for 6th Edition. Is that correct? They're not 7th Edition updates?

I was mistaken. Orient Express is 7th edition. Beyond is 6th.

@@sluggo562 It's basically a reprint with new formatting. I think the logic behind it was the fact that the original is in such high demand but priced so high as to make it impossible to afford. They plan to re-release it for 7th edition, but that is some years down the line.

To this day I can't believe how amateurish, cheap and ugly the art and layout of your original US versions looked like. It's the same layout and art your 5th edition had that I bought as a teen in the 90s. If you ever get a chance look up how immersive and detailed European translations from Germany or France were designed for the last two decades. Difference like day and night. I know this changed with the latest edition. Anyway, very informative unboxing. Speaking of 2nd hand prices....due to the expensive production values the German editions were very limited in print numbers. Orient Express and Beyond the Mountains of Madness sell around 600 to 800 Euro on the second hand market.

Personally, I prefer black and white interiors and line art as opposed to full-color books. I've never seen the German or French books.
