She is the one who shows that " I am going to bully you because I have a different opinion" .. she is a perfect example of the existing problem in society, not him...He just stands for what he thinks is right, which is called freedom of speech
The way this woman is misinterpreting what Sergio is saying is infuriating. But he is not being provoked by her attitude at all and answers so calmly. God I love him .
Agreed. That woman does not speak for me. Sergei was beautifully spoken and I understood his intentions perfectly. It is also clear to me that this woman tows the CNN talking points and has no clue that she might have her accusations about Putin and Syria and foreign policy in general, absolutely wrong. I commend Sergei for having the self-restraint to simply state that maybe she will change her mind in 3 to 4 years. There is a lot going on right now and it is clear that only one of the two on that stage understand that. Her interviewing style was abysmal. If not for wanting to see what Sergei had to say, I would NEVER give her a moment of my time.
@José Hoppenstedt Thank you for all the info! This is so sickening, this woman is so arrogant it is sickening. What I love about Sergeï Polunin is his very undisturbed stance, the way he just expresses his views with confidence. He is right, the world isn't just the West. The important thing is to act according to one's believes. I respect him even more after listening to this interview.
The interviewer was not half as judgmental as Sergei himself. Are you familiar with his hateful homophobic views? How would you feel about someone with a Hitler tattoo? Would you judge him as a Neo Nazi or merely provocatively naive? Or self destructive?
He tries so patiently to explain to her that women and men are not the same and of course that their energy is different on stage, anyone who has ever experienced a performance knows what he means. She tries to put him down for that. Let me just mention, the lady doesn’t seem to know that he has a lot of experience on stage and in choreography school compared to her. If she shuts her mouth and listens she could learn a thing or two!!! I don’t even want to mention her crazy swan 🦢 analogy. That’s beyond! I don’t agree with his view of Putin but I like that he has an opinion and sticks to it even if it is not popular in the West. He is so polite and patient, doesn’t get defensive with the interviewer, although I couldn’t blame him if he did! Well done Sergei! A+++ from me!
The calmness and professionalism Mr. Polunin shows speaks volumes of his great heart and integrity. The P.O.S. interviewer girl needs to never interview another person butt herself.
This woman is making me mad...her way of thinking is frustrating....she can not get Sergei's way of thinking...!!! Bravo Sergei for your calmness and your authenticity...🌈
What an outrageous journalist. People like her will never get near Polunin ‘ s heart and artistic soul! Blessed who can aproach his thoughts. One must try and the world would be bettter.
Terrible interviewing skills, who cares about her opinion! We will decided ourselves whether to agree with Sergei or not, no need to voice it for us. He spoke honestly, respect for that. I do not agree with him, but I like how he stands by his values.
Grace under fire… thumbs up for Polunin, integrity and courtesy. Admirable! By contrast, the interviewer may want to make an impact, but she fails because she is disrespectful.
He is great and he is using his power to send a message. The massage is - freedom to say, to think, to act....he is an amazing young man. She, unfortunately forgets it is a honour to have an opportunity to be at same place with this man and to talk with him... he is spiritual as well... wish him all the best!
Truly enjoyed reading comments, seems people nowadays are not as easily manipulated by badass journalists as few years ago even. Sergei is a very...interesting human being, not sure how best shall I put it. He has own path, that's for sure and he truly listens only to the voices in HIS head, for better or for worse - no one knows what the future holds. He might turn out to be a prophet and psychic or he might be very disappointed with his today's view of the world, still my respect for being brave to go against the main current. Everyone wants to be liked, by cost of lying and pretending. He wants to stay true to himself. Hats off to him.
Polunin manages to be calm and respectful despite the obvious intent of the journalist to provoke him. His charm and his exquisite education are truly admirable! Little funny note, imagine the expression of the hetero and sexually active female world population, to the insinuation that Polunin may have problems in the bedroom because of his tattoo: I mean, did she see the photos of him naked? Good lord, if he had Hello Kitty tattooed on his forehead, maybe after sixty years of marriage and twelve children, you would begin to notice it. Maybe!
"if he had Hello Kitty tattooed on his forehead, maybe after sixty years of marriage and twelve children, you would begin to notice it" the best thing a read this year hahahh'
What a horrible, terrible woman! What is she doing in the media??? She should not be allowed talking to people at all! Good God! Disgrace to the journalist world!!! She has this ' my way or the highway ' view of the World, can't be bothered at all to carry out research in order to make informed opinion about anything, but arrogantly trying to reinforce whatever she claims knowledge about. I am very much surprised that Sergei didn't walk out. I think this is a true testament of his humble character without which, he wouldn't be able to achieve what he has.
Unbelievable, the interviewer, he is outstanding. Takes it in stride. He doesn’t let himself get pulled into an argument or become defensive at all. 👏👏👏👏 well done! (And I am 100% sure that no one has to worry about his sex life bc of his tattoos😉) - ridiculous !!
The interviewer is terrible. Interviewers should ask questions and listen, not provoke and challenge and push her own agendas. This is why media is so biased because they steer everything into a certain direction themselves as opposed to collecting one's view/perspective and leaving it untouched. And the sex question! Cringe. Wtf does that have to do with anything? I do not agree with some of Polunin's opinions, but I still think he was treated unfairly here, almost as if every question is a trap instead of just asked out of curiosity.
She is such a horrible woman, she doesn't want to accept his way of thinking, she is attacking him instead of trying to understand him. I love his views, he is sooo brave and the most normal and intelligent and logical guy I ever seen. And he is so calm...no agressivness...while this lady...she is really soooooo unprofessional.

He outclassed her. She's blunt and a product of recent period of humankind's bad journalism that cares only about - sensationalizing things for views which lowered the quality of a good thought and its' storytelling. .Even though I might not agree with him on everything - he's open to sharing an attitude without an agenda to lead or ruin the conversation - just to participate in it, with experiences and awareness he has at this moment.
Unfortunately this is the majority of political journalists and journalism as a whole in western society, bcz make no mistake this was a political interview and certainly not about his art. What i see is a narrow minded middle aged woman trying to push her political views and ideas to a young talented man.
Tommy Vasdekis - you are on point. And to add to her accusatory and demeaning tone, she had the audacity to comment on herself not being fat and therefore not a candidate to "get slapped". Nothing like being such a self-absorbed interviewer you manage to work in your "awesome figure" into a random conversation.
Congratulation to Munich, a city of inclusiveness and open-mindless. Congratulations also for Bavarian State Opera and Bavarian State Ballet’s having Sergei Polunin, a genius artist with a different views. Bravo!
I don't know what happened to the world of journalism but somewhere along the line, things got twisted. It is not about the journalist's view not her or his opinions. It is about the guest. How can one journalist not appear biased or rude? I don't know.Maybe I am old but I do understand where Sergei is coming from...and I love him.
This is terrible. The interviewer punts no effort into trying to understand what he is saying, she just tries to push her political views. And the sex question ... gods that was unprofessional. He was very gracious and nice and although I don't agree with everything he is saying I hope I will never support this type of brainwashed one-sided views of the world this woman is so blinded by.
Her view, like she is an important dancer with a great body, a tolerant calm heart with something to say with what she does with her life. She is boring as hell!
The sex question was so inappropriate. Sergei made her look dumb by remaining calm and gentle in his response. Btw, I doubt Sergei is going to have any issues getting sex because of his Putin tattoo. this woman is the one who comes across as extreme and nuts.
Embarrassing that she talks over him and cuts him off. Does she know what a genius he is and what he has achieved and been through to get there. Just watch Dancer. The people he has now inspired to dance? She asked him the questions and as a journalist should be impartial and let him answer. Sergei stay warm well and safe we love you.
Embarrassing and disgraceful. This man is a dancer that only comes around once in a lifetime and he's so gracious and gentle, and she's treating him like nothing. And the sex question was so low and disgusting. I'm not a prude, but to mention his tattoo in that context was just weird. Like, where is her mind? I guess Freud would say in his bedroom, huh?
I'm cringing. When interviewing someone, even if it's someone whose beliefs don't align with your own, there is tact and courtesy that should be maintained. Some may accuse it as putting on airs or not being authentic, but I believe there is a way to be honest while also being polite. Heck, it makes for a tasteful interview to have different viewpoints having a rapport with each other and could be intellectually stimulating for both speakers and the audience. This felt like Tanit was trying to skewer Sergei. I am shocked with Sergei's posts as of late and I definitely don't share the same beliefs he does, but he is his own person as I am my own. We both come from different backgrounds and ways of life. We pick and choose as we think is right and that's dependent on the person. What is right seems so black and white when we're young, but when we grow up, a lot of those things become gray (at least for me when it comes to how the West believes one thing and the East another). What I can say for a fact is that Sergei is a beautiful dancer, he has overcome many trials in his life, and that people at their core have good intentions. No good deed goes unpunished in this world. I admire him for being a hard worker by creating his own path beyond dancing onstage with his appearances in movies and music videos. His Art Up movement was very inspirational to unite humanity with art all over the world. Sergei is not perfect overall but who is? It will make me re-evaluate what kind of fan I am of his. However, I know I am a fan of the man whose story I got a glimpse of in the documentary, Dancer. He's someone who wants to inspire and be a light in a world full of demons of various sorts. Who those demons are is debatable, but I want to believe that they are all of our own creation. We should try to help each other minimize those demons rather than exacerbate them and continue making lives miserable. Yes, we need to be strong, but we should allow ourselves to be vulnerable as well. Vulnerability is not weakness. We need vulnerability so we can have open minds and hearts with each other so we can all improve and coexist peacefully together.
Since revealing Shiva from India, Serioja is so humble, quiet, self-reconciled, that it gives me the impression that he has started on a path of repentance, of transfiguration to a high spirituality. And the Indian salute at the end has overwhelmed me altogether ... And yet, there are many monasteries in Russia with a tradition of high spirituality with holy parents who have passed the threshold of holiness, so if Serioja wants to go to 30 years on a new road, can give to the Church in Russia, and dance to replace it with metania, with Christian-Orthodox prayers. Serioja is a ballet genius, but he remains an innocent child with blue eyes, and I think he is the only one who can give me justice in what I say through these words. Stepan
This is his own opinion, this is his message. He is very honest and really wants to address issues in our society. I personally don't agree with his love forPutin, but he truly has some good points. Polunin is a great artist and person, very humble and genuine.
Sergei you did great. Thankyou. Yes I like --teach and toughen people up. Too many overweight children. It is the parents. I think folk don't get you. I get you.
I get him too. :) So many of us feel exactly as Sergei expresses himself. We are simply not the ones with the microphones and TV cameras. We are living in a staged world. We need more heroes who are unafraid to be truthful and authentic.
@DLDconference - how could you allow such shameful approach and insulting interview with Sergei Polunin???? If you did not make a public statement to distant yourselves from this so-called journalist and her bullying methods when handling one of the biggest ballet stars in the world, then this calls for immediate public reaction and protest!!!
Jesus Christ this was awful. I do not agree with his views on Putin but there was just no need for talking about next time he has sex etc. It was cringe-inducing. He is always so composed and I was impressed by how he handled himself. As a journalist you must not push your own ideology and beliefs onto the subject that you are interviewing. Of course you have your own opinion, but it is not your place to be so judgemental. She really does not deserve to get work if she cannot conduct herself in a more professional manner.
Look on the bright side. At least we know it’s him and he wasn’t being held hostage by his business manager in a bizarre attempt to sabotage his career. Like it or not, it’s all him!
The superficiality of this interview is astonishing. The lady just wants to make her point no matter what Sergei is saying. I totally disagree with Sergei’s conservative view of society but this is not the way to address this matter. Moreover, Sergei’s view is the same view of the majority of people, let alone presidents like Donald Trump. Again, I strongly disagree but stop being disingenuous. Let him dance or be serious about his approach to society. This interview is an embarrassment made only to make superficial people feel better. Be serious
What you see as calm, I see as a sign of a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Even his manager has stated publicly that she is worried about his mental health.
@@znhurston you're a liar. his manager never said this anywhere other than in your dreams. Sergei has always had this stance about men being men and women being women from past interviews years ago.
@@YouAreMySunshine2 And, by the way, I think Sergei is one of the best male ballet dancers the world has ever seen and I greatly admire him as an artist.
I haven't commented on this vid because it just makes me sad, and now given the war in the Ukraine, sadder than ever. I fervently hope that Sergei sees that what isolates Putin is his utter lack of humanity, fear and ego rather than his strength and that Putin needs no protection. I don't know Sergei but these are not words I would use to describe him. ❤
Just wow. I agree with another commenter, that if a person dishes out controversial statements then they are going to get a controversial interview, which he did. So I don’t love her arrogantly biased style, but he also isn’t the victim here, he sickly loved his taunting tweets and thought it was fun. Sergei is simply a perplexing person so I feel drawn to try and write my perception of him. I feel like he spent over twenty years confined to a ballet studio being told what to do, his voice muted (dancers don’t talk), with no father figure, with no formal education, and only his body as his tool for expression. He is Slavic by birth and culture, was thrust into UK culture in London, then back into Russian culture. Also on stage, roles/energies are very clear and exaggerated to convey storylines to audiences. So in his adulthood he’s been let out into the world a child at heart and he inappropriately applies these fairytale illusions of roles/energies because that’s what he knows what to do. He can’t make sense of the complexities of the world so he seems innocently confused, tortured. He tattoos these confusions and contradictions on his body, his true tool of expression. He knows where he fits in on stage, but he doesn’t know where he fits in real life. Putin seems to know all the answers and is a strong father figure type, so it’s no wonder he is mesmerized by him - it’s an adoration not based in reality but on some personal projection. He also has not been accepted in the US and UK, and so since Russia accepted him after London, he feels some need to defend the leader of his now home country. So the interviewer was applying logic to a situation that Sergei was applying emotion rather than logic to, thus they were on two different wave lengths the entire interview. Sergei has seemed to feel the need to pick sides to make things make more sense, so externally he has picked Eastern culture and internally he has picked good over evil. Onlookers (especially politically liberal) try and connect Russia with angelic good and that is unreconcilable to them, but in Sergei’s reality it makes sense. Is it really a surprise after all that he is living life as so many tortured artists do - prisoner to the need for extreme highs and lows, of testing their own personal and artistic limits? To feel free? To FEEL? We can’t hold the same mundane expectations of an artist like him. He is going to be erratic and messy and tragically beautiful. He is going to keep sabotaging himself because then he can artistically arise the Phoenix over and over again. He is going to keep chasing freedom which is always going to elude him. After his body starts to deteriorate, I don’t foresee him choosing to live very long unless he can find some balance and channel his artistry into a different outlet (acting)? For now, I will ponder his complexity, swoon at his sheepishly handsome good looks and his innocently devilish smile, marvel at his unearthly talent, and hold space for his growth. If he doesn’t find peace and he leaves us too soon, I will likely forget his oddly unconventional views and will have been grateful for a star that shined fiercely - and unapologetically - bright. We don’t need more politics but we need more art, so keep dancing for all of us Sergei.
I remembered this horrible interview....and the terrifying koments about Sergei after the interview ....pure hate...lovely now to see all love he gets in the koments he is a lovely person wonderful dancer and choreographer and is worth all support love ❤he can get love from Sweden 🇸🇪
She was so disrespectful and unprofessional. He, on the other hand, was very polite. I don't like Putin, I don't like Trump, but people have the rigth to have different opinions. Ps: Can someone tell me what is the tattoo on his face? Is a letter? A heart? A simbol?
She is awful indeed and she doesn't know anything besides propaganda! He is very nice! Her nervousness must have something to do with that awful performance that she is doing!
I was thinking the same thing, somebody on his team don't like him. This interview should have been about dance, movies he's been in, and his modeling and that is that!! This bitch interviewer I want to roundhouse drop kick!!
Sergei you are astonishing when you dance. Your energy is transformative to watch. Your eloquent transparency in measured response to being trolled, in this interview, informs the audience of your unique authenticity.
I don't think he is calm and collected. I actually think he didn't even understand he was being trolled. Some call it naivete and find it charming, others call it so many other things, from stupidity to lack of opportunity for knowing any better, to lack of character...and for sure there will be someone out there who will find each of those lacks also very charming... regardless of that, I just think the interviewer had a clear agenda of exploring his dim-wit as a way to cast a shadow over his magnificent talent. She should not do that. And indeed, didn't achieve that. he is a genius in dance. He is young and for the moment his arguments on other things only show he needs to read. If not to change his mind, at least to make himself clearer, or make his arguments more convincing. dimwitted genius he is!
absolutely agree- too much tolerance makes us stupider ( in my opinion) ..he s not the only who postes these kind of messages I guess, don't take instagram too serious! They made him to a world enemy now, my God,what a reaction.
Focus on his dance and how well he can do. He's a dancer, not a politician. Why focus on his political belief? The interviewer is used adjectives like "ugly." Where is her objectivity? She needs to go home.
Who cares what she is saying !! He is the best and most sexiest dancer i have ever seen! Too many questions! I completely understand what he is saying.
I watched 4 minutes of this interview and this female interviewer clearly is the most disrespectful human being by asking the most provoking and distasteful questions to a person that has achieved in Life artistry in dance and expression that is most outstanding. Besides she is clearly in an attacking sitting position leaning toward him and loves to hear herself talk as she puts him down. Sergei handles it well by his charm and smile. But his posture and the way he looks at her clearly express discomfort. I pity her. She sits there believing she is powerful by asking disgraceful questions. I feel sad to see that Sergei has to go through interviews like this. However it only makes him seem more human and kind and even more beautiful inside out. She judges him and insults him so many times even in the first 4 minutes that his tattoo seems angelic in comparison to her soul. This is written by me not because I like to judge people, but because I believe in the good and in respect towards others, no matter who they are and what they do. She should be forever grateful for Sergei allowing to even interview him as one of THE greatest Ballet dancers of our time. The fact that she is even allowed to interview that way is deeply unsettling and shocking. Every interview I have seen so far , it was revealed that Sergei is not just a magical dancer but has a beautiful spirit , and this woman can not take it away from him. In fact she looks so small next to him by having no integrity and invading his personal space by the most horrendous questions that never I could never come up with in my worst nightmares. It's funny how he seems even more of a beautiful person the worse the interviewer portraits her real self by her dirty questions. PS: There are millions of women who would love to have sex with Sergei and she is probably frustrated that she isn't as good looking as him. Therefore she had to play a bad joke on a tattoo.
Watching her, thinking she’s one of those people who refuses to listen to what he’s saying. We don’t need this kind of twisted crap anymore. I rarely care or get upset w interviews but this one- no words for her demonizing him. I’m assuming she’s perfect and has never sinned because she has that air of all knowing.
I think Sergei trying to say that the art and performance put also limits for certain gender problem. I like his position clearly and great way to handle the media. Media is always looking for sell and no really listen.
... but in fact it is this graceful, elegant, delicate 'feminine' quality shining through his strength and energy and undoubtedly manly appearance, what makes him so strikingly beautiful and 'complete'. He should embrace that! On the other hand the most beautiful women are those to me, in which you discover "male' qualities - despite their undoubtedly female appearance. But maybe it's just me ...
This was so painful to watch because of the blatant interviewer bias. Being Russian does not mean having Western values. I am glad he is not a people pleaser and did not waver from his core beliefs.
It’s kind of hilarious that he doesn’t like to watch ballet bc the male energy is missing. In one of his interviews he said he hasn’t watched classical ballet since he was 18. He also doesn’t like to watch himself dance bc he sees all the tiny imperfections in his performance.
I love to watch him dance, he definitely has good deep in his soul, but you all that are saying the journalist was being wrong to call him out on his crap, are the ones in the wrong, just as he is. I respect hi hard work and his talent, but he is arrogant and in the wrong in regards to being prejudice and favoring Putin! Yes people should exercise, be that light Sergei, that you claim Putin is, be that good light that you reflect in your artistry!
Dear Sergei, I recommend meditation, contemplation, deep personal inquiry following any of the available spiritual traditions and a deep personal practice, if you're going to comment on life and the world.
It is so rude to invite a person for an interview to talk about what is good what is not and to show 0 integrity and tolerance to other people's opinion.
This journalist needs to open her mind and learn how to make intelligent questions! He has an elegant attitude even though, she is not respecting the talent of this amazing dancer!Tanit Koch is her name...Come on, lady! Are you a judge? Or are you just following an agenda?
