This is the second song as apart of the Beyond The Wire Soundtrack. It features two fantastic Irish musicians Moylan Brunnock on vocals and Richard Neylon on uilleann pipes. I collaborated with both of them online during the 2019 pandemic. I wrote the music and lyrics in English and then had them translated and sung my Moylan. I had a good few people ask me about the translation, these lyrics are 100% accurate as translated by Moylan. The lyrics take inspiration from a WW1 poem (‘The Royal Munster Fusiliers’) by an Irish solider called Cornelius O’Mahoney. This album is dedicated to my great-grandfather Peter Dempsey, who lost his life in France, 1916.

D’imigh siad uainn
Urchar síos ina ghruaim
Mairfidh a gcuimhne
Ár mbuachaillí cróga a d’éag
Trasnaithe thar an mbarra
Gan a gcuid laethanta ar an eolas
I bhfad, i bhfad óna dtithe
Ar an Domhan seo bhí siad uimhrithe
Nuair a tháinig an reisimint
Thar a n-uaigheanna anois an seabhac fiáin
hovers brónach
Sa dufaire aonair traochta sin
I bhfad, i bhfad óna dtithe
Go maire siad a scíth,
Unhallowed sa scéal
A n-uaigheanna tá siad fuar
Cailltear a láithreacht
Ár laochra a slumber
I bhfad, i bhfad óna dtithe
I bhfad, i bhfad óna dtithe

They left us,
Taken in the night,
Without knowing,
They went ahead,
Their memory lives on,
Our brave men,
Far, far from their homes.
When the soldiers came,
They were but numbers,
Past the graves, the wild hawk waits,
Lonely and sad,
In the tired woods,
Far, far from their homes.
Rest in peace,
Their souls,
In cold graves,
Gone too soon,
Their memory lives on,
Our brave men,
Far, far from their homes,
Far, far from their Homes.
