He rolled under and grabbed a leg within reaction time and then got to his stomach before neutral danger clear no control. Last year wouldve been a different story
Wow, I was amazed when I finally saw it. I can only think that the ref was so concerned with neutral danger that he forgot that there are other ways to score a takedown.
Vinny got absolutely robbed. That call was so incredibly bad I'm venturing to say the ref might actually have been paid off prior to the meet. Not to mention the rip off at 141 as well. That was just ridiculous.
@@MarkCornelius-x5t has to break 90, I’ve seen wrestlers stay on their back for like 20 seconds and didn’t get a danger and then all of a sudden when Bartlett barely has control he gets 2, BS
Starocci still seems to be sick, Kasak wrestles like a veteran, Mesenbrink looked great, and Aaron Brooks looked like an Olympian! Props to OSU - expected a blowout and OSU wrestled harder in the lightweights. Some questionable calls and no-calls for stalling that changed the outcomes and tempos of matches. This matchup did not disappoint!!
Yikes… bad call at 125 and at 141. I’d be pissed too if I was Ohio State. Doesn’t change the fact Penn State was gonna win the dual but the score would have been respectable
125 was the worse call I have seen this season. No way both those officials saw such a bad call the same way, the mat judge must have been afraid to speak up which is sad because it undermines the reason for a mat judge. The replay review should have been to see if he also had back points.
Davis was GIFTED that win. OSU wrestler DEFINITELY got ATLEAST 3. Not gonna get those calls against Iowa in CHA so he better be on top of his game. Or he's gonna suffer his first loss this season.
It was a spirited match. The OSU guys pressed the Penn State guys for the most part. I thought Davis was very fortunate to win. It seemed like he slowed down in the final period and it almost cost him. The refs could see the final positions at the bell better than anybody, so I guess they were correct in calling no TD. Nagao let Bouzakis be more aggressive than he should have. Nagao dug himself a hole he couldn't get out of. Bouzakis came to wrestle. Bartlett wins a lot of his matches late just as he did tonight. Bartlett goes along and goes along with the match close, and somehow in the end he wins. I was impressed with Kasak. He is very strong for a freshman. He beat a guy four years older than him using a lot of strength. Starocci was not very dynamic tonight. He danced away the final 90 seconds to win only 4-2. It seemed he could have been called for stalling for a point. Truax was winning and dominating, but then he lost focus and got his butt pinned. Rogotzke knew exactly what to do when the opportunity was there. Gotta give him credit. Truax can't fall asleep like that.
Thank you for posting. I thought the match was poorly refereed especially the stalling calls and the non-takedowns but the Penn State freshmen were impressive as always. Brooks is awesome. Looking forward to Iowa.
With Iowa and Michigan, the officiating was almost just as bad. The tipping point is here where the refs can’t keep up with the talent of the wrestlers. These are two of the best and it just so unfortunate when these kids work so hard just to have it stripped it away by a horrible call. These officials need to stay out of the match. These are two warriors going at it. Keep it safe, keep it legal, and signal the scores when it’s evident. These guys are so quick now that there has to be reactionary time considerations. These rushed and questionable calls are hurting the sport and we’ve gotten so used to it as fans, that we often accept it as part of the sport. It shouldn’t be this way. Challenges should only be reviewed at full speed bc that’s what’s happening in real life. When you watch wrestling in slow motion, it changes everything. We have to be better. Nick has done this before but to see Angel not able to keep it, is really surprising and unfortunate. Hopefully this is cleaned up before March. 🙏🏼
Super sketchy calls at 125 and 141. Despite the outcome of the dual, the future is very bright for this young OSU team. They have 3 starters out (one being a national champ favorite in Sasso), but still have a bunch of freshman that are competing at a high level.
PSU got all the calls tonight. It really feels like with the best programs in the state or country they always get the calls going their way. It’s really weird how often this happens in high school and college
Remember when a Latrobe wrestler got tossed and broke his neck in the 90s? I did the toss it wasn’t anything crazy just a bad landing. He didn’t move after the fall. Crappy day for everyone involved.
@@raywalteroutdoors oh wow, sorry to hear about that. But I never heard about that. I wrestled at hughesville when it was the best in District Four. We didn't wrestle Latrobe but we knew of their reputation as well as Sayre and Wyalusing. Our big competition was Danville and Milton and Lockhaven and Bald Eagle were always tough tough matches. But what kind of "throw" was it??? I'm scratching my brain and just can't visualize how that would happen. We used to do something called a "flying pancake" but even that never ended badly. It was just an underhook/overhook and rotate leaning back from a standing position. If you didn't hit it quick you're going straight to your back. Basically, it was gonna wind up being a 5 point move for someone. That was back when back points were either "2 point predicament" or 3 point near fall.
It's really boring when the same team wins all of the matches, and some unbelievably questionable calls were the reason for the Penn State wins. .The refs at the Lehigh matches are really inconsistent and constantly insert themselves into matches.
How can refs look at instant replay at different angles and any way in any form say that was NOT a takedown!!!! If you ever want to teach the lesson by sports that “life is not fare” ….there you go, teach away
Brooks has his foot on the gas mashed to the floor, I think #4. Starrocci needs to get busy, no time to coast. Greg has the perfect length for bow and arrow, he's missing out on the fun by not working his natural advantage. Messenbrink is just pure motor, can't wait to see him in big10 and nationals. Everyone below 65 will do well but still not quite there yet. And truax is going to be lucky to be top 10 by the big10. He just doesn't have the natural skills 😕
Umm, isn't Braedon Davis a 4x Michagen State Champ, and the last dominant 125 lber for PSU was Suriano who was 10-1 when he got hurt, This announcer needs to know the sport a bit ...Holy shit that 3 and back points....5 point right there
Regardless of the call/no call at 125, Davis is 19 years old, and wrestles with heart….Nagao has a huge issue on his feet, and constantly putting himself in bad spots….Beau looked tough, and will be hard to beat….Kasak looks good in all positions and wrestles a controlled mad. Did u see Kasak running off the mat and the affirmation from Starocci. Levi is as good a meat and potatoes wrestler that there is. Needs a little work on his feet. Mesenbrink wrestled hard and is great in all positions. He could teach a few things to Nagao about takedowns and positioning….Carter looked tired….Truax needs help defending on his feet, and he too is in bad position a lot. Aaron IMO is the best wrestler in the country. Greg is so tough in all positions. He regularly picked this kid off the mat tonight. Greg may lead the team in fewest points given up. I think we fail to realize how really young most of these guys are….they are weekly wrestling in front of big crowds, traveling all over the country, and some, all over the world, and fans at time give them no slack….most of Penn States team are also academic All Americans….Im certain some of them read this kinda stuff. So encourage these kids whenever you can. Great job tonight.
Not sure which call was worse 25 or 41. Im saying this because of the inconsistency. If 41 was 3, 25 surely was. The mat ref shouldnt be allowed another match this year, and never PSU again. At 41 I dont know how you can look at the video and not see that he restarted the swipes, by his own signals
Yes 125 call is dog shit, 141 is questionable, but they also didn’t give the final takedown to Nagao 😂 which out of the three is easily the most clear . Refs were bad
20:35 He doesn't let Bouzakis all the way out, and you can hear the ref saying "Green still in control". It's confusing because the score ticks up for a second, then one of the announcers says "I don't think he gave the escape" and it goes back down.
The problem we have now, no take dn in the 125 match the guy almost pinned, the guy on top with a half in chest to chest but no control. Then Bartlett trying to stop a take dn, turns the guy maybe past 90 while the guy still has his leg gets 3 crazy
To all the casuals saying bad calls happen, don’t be in a close match or don’t leave it up to the refs. That might be the dumbest rationale ever. It’s high level division 1 wrestling. You can’t always be up 8 in the last minute. The non casuals will know why I used the number 8.
PSU was not on there game tonight.Tom Ryan and Ohio State had a lot to do with that. However with Iowa losing to Michigan PSU better be ready at Iowa because Iowa will be ready after the way they wrestled last night.PSU wins but it will be a good one!
