The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 5 participated in the 7th Agri Summit at Robinsons Mall, Naga City, from June 18 to 21, 2024. The event brought together fisherfolk and stakeholders, providing a platform to showcase their fisheries products and promote agricultural innovations and business opportunities.
Assistant Director Angel Encarnacion, BFAR National AD for Technical Services, led the ribbon-cutting of Aquaworld during the BFAR Day on June 20, 2024. ”As we gather here, it is crucial to recognize the vital role that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the local government units (LGUs), young entrepreneurs, and various industry players have in driving our economy forward. This Expo serves as a platform for stakeholders to come together, exchange ideas, and forge meaningful collaborations” he said in his message.
“The DA-BFAR plays a significant role in promoting local products from Filipino fishers and stakeholders, thus supporting the economy. Through its Market Development initiatives, the agency conducts Seafood Kadiwa, market monitoring, market matching, and Agri fairs/exhibits to ensure that our local products gain traction and our fisherfolk and their communities prosper” he further added.
This year, BFAR highlighted aquaculture and its role in the agricultural landscape. Atty. Nilo Consuelo, Chief of the Fisheries Production and Support Services Division (FPSSD) served as Resource Person and presented business opportunities in Mariculture Park among investors. While Salvador Taduran Jr. and Ruby Tud, both Senior Aquaculturist of FPSSD, presented the
economic and profitability of Seaweed and Tilapia, respectively. Meanwhile, Maria Elsa Malna, Head of the Post Harvest and Marketing Section discussed value-adding of fish and held an onsite demonstration of making fish turon and fish longganisa.
BFAR 5 Regional Director Ariel Pioquinto graced each booth and expressed full support to the exhibitors. Fisheries products on display included fresh and processed seafood, aquaculture equipment, aquascaping and pet fish and value-added products from the following partners: Guinbe Food Corporation, DYH Fish Products, Dai-Hai Marine Products Corporation, Cagbunga Crab Paste Producers Association of Gainza, Tiwi Food Processors Association Inc., Danawin Agrarian Reform Cooperative, San Jacinto Sardines, Briva, BGF Air Power Industry Corporation, Aquascaping Naga City, and Pacific Flare.
