As a musician i can tell you it could be bc of the synths and square waves which we usually correlate with old music in the 80s or video game music. Some synths can also sound a little distorted and off tune, which makes them more bittersweet. And the melody is simple here, with the upbeat sound, it gives everyone a feeling of childish glee. Another reason could be that some people attach this song to an old memory in their brain and when it fits, it feels more personal and nostalgic despite the fact the song never appeared in the aforementioned memory.
