I have many drum software programs. A song with BFD ECO on it was the only time I ever got a compliment on my drum sound. And it was from a professional, national artist.

I use superior drummer 3 but I'm thinking BFD3 sounds more natural to my ears.

Totally. It’s sounds way better. I just quit using pretty much everything i had and i only use BFD3. It’s the best

I'm an SD3 guy but just picked up BFD3 due to a sale and the allure of the Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute expansion. Upon loading the MCA kits for the first time and auditioning the sounds I couldn't help but fall in love with the sound of this program. It's different than SD3 and I'm glad to have both.

I love the tom sounds in this pack! Not as pristine as they usually are. Can't say I'm crazy about the Jazz Festival snare though. I wish they had sampled more snares or different tunings instead of the snare off.

Yeah, the toms sound amazing. The multiple mics are great.

Hwne I saw the video for this, I thought it was just the vintage techniques, but its close mics and all those techniques including a condensor on a snare which is awesome, really interested in this pack and Modern Retro. Modern Retro sounds great but seems to be missing a few cymbal articulations I like using such as bow on crashes.

Have you used either of the Jazz kits (Jazz Noir or Jazz and Funk)? I like the way you demo the expansions and it'd be helpful to see one done for them I'm looking to get a drum sound similar to Refused's Tannhauser/Derive, which has a really natural sound to me more like a jazz kit. Maybe it's just heavy room sound

Are all of the mic options (that you demonstrated up to the 9 min point of this video) something we can do as completely in the regular BFD3 program? Or is that array of options only available in the "Vintage Recording Techniques" package?
@Zubareffstream111
@Zubareffstream111 6 лет назад
Not all of them. The stock BFD3 library comes with 3 mono channels, 2 comp channels in addition to the standard OH, Room and Amb (Far room) channels. So any channels you see in this video is that aren't listed above are ones that are exclusive to Vintage recording Techniques

I was thinking about buying this one. Some presets seems to be perfect for organic and natural Metal/Rock sound too, Black Metal in mind obviously with clean and acoustic parts. What do you think about it ? Is it worth it ? The snares seems to have more than 1 Go of detailled layers for all articulations and a lot of mics to capture each piece of your snare sound to find the perfect balance for your dream snare sound. It must be the biggest snares samples of all expansions, above Metal Snares. They must fit really well too no ? I am impressed by the quality of the different mixes and the quality of the mics. It's like having your own recording studio room and it's amazing to listen to. I have to tell that, compared to Superior Drummer 3, the samples and mics quality (aside being more realistic... 1 Go changes everything) are easier to work with as a musician with no skills in drums engineering and mixing but with a selective ear and the will to reach the sound you are looking for desperatly. Thanks againg for this in-depth video.

Yeah it's a good kit. Sometimes they have expansion sales for 50% off, not sure if they will do that this year. You can get like $15 off right now if you buy through AudioDeluxe.com

@@BenoniStudio Just to let you know, there is a new Wooden Snare expansion for BF3 only with 2 processed sounds and one natural, wires ON and OFF like the Metal Snares one. Already getting it, downloading in progress ! Can't wait to test the Walnut Gretsch one !

Sounds great! This is a vintage kit not a modern reissue right? Are they the 3 ply maples?
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 7 лет назад
I can't say, they don't mention that in the FAQ www.fxpansion.com/support/faq/vintage-recording-techniques/ Send them an email at FXpansion.com they would know the details about the exact kit.

could you do a video on how to record the output of the overhead and room mics onto there own tracks within a DAW? I ask as i've recorded a real drummer, converted all his hits into midi notes which is triggering the close mics, then i've converted them to audio now i want to add some room sound into the dry tracks. How do i do this?
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 6 лет назад
I can probably do a video on pulling out channels from BFD3. You can change the output of each channel at the bottom of the mixer in BFD3 and set those outs to ins in your DAW.

Nice presentation! Your thoughts on sound quality - BFD3 VRT vs. Superior Drummer 3?
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 7 лет назад
I don't have Superior Drummer 3, it won't be out for another couple weeks, so I can't say. But I've been a BFD3 user for a long time and I like it because of the options, the integrated drum groove editor, and the libraries are really good. Pretty much any drum VI is good these days though, depends on what you like.

@@BenoniStudio Have you had a chance to play with SD3.. Im curious as to what your opinion is on this
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 4 года назад
@@SimpleAndyRock Yes I have. It's REALLY awesome. But its also dramatically more expensive than BFD3. You can do a lot of the same stuff in either, and they both sound good. SD3 has a better interface though. I should have videos about it at some point, but since its such a complex program I'm still debating if several short videos would be better or a single LOOOOONG video.
