Episode 100: WOW, when I sit back and realize how far we have come with this channel.. To make it to episode 100 for me as a creator and journalist is truly humbling and surreal.
I am so blessed to be here and EVERYONE at the ML legends family is appreciative of the love and support you all have shown so far!
1: Yes, I know that BGC is NOT part of Manila Technically, that is resides in the middle of Taguig, but for most common viewers they need to know that its super close to main metro Manila.
2: Is this place a beautiful viewpoint and Highlight of the Capital area of the Philippines?
3: Or, is it a corrupt stain on the area run by a private monopoly that drives out all locals and low income Filipinos and Erects giant walls to seperate the reality of what is the Taguig area?
4: Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion and in this episode we share the opinion of one locally born and raised Filipino Couple. I want to continue to express that these are thier own thoughts and opionions and i have my own thoughts and opinions on all of it.
Shout out to Noel:

Lots of Filipinos drown cause they don’t know how to swim. I know someone that died and he was too young. Growing up in the 60s there was a free learn to swim campaign in Manila sponsored by the YMCA. I went to that class and barely passed. It cost a lot of money now to take swimming lessons. I had to send money for my niece and nephews to take swimming lessons. The badjaos are born natural swimmers since they live in homes on stilts on the water.

Brother, amazing comment and well said! I have seen it all too well myself as a child who grew up on a beach in Florida with bascially what amounts to (the Badjaos) of America style family.. Gypsies and pirates who had nothing but the Sea to feed them. I have witnessed hundreds of drownings as a surfer all over and I honestly beleive it is the same in every country.. If you follow it back to Colonial days, only the wealthy were permitted on the beaches to swim.. and Yes, swimming lessons are very exspensive.. Perhaps.. I can start a Filipino Swimming school for all ages for free in my off time?!?!? I think that would be an amazing activity and something i share a true passion for!

@@bb89670 If malls are not profitable, why then Philippines keeps on building them? It could not possibly be that people go there for free airconditioning. I wonder why Rolex and other luxury brands still exist in Rustans, etc if no one is buying. Philippines is a consumer driven economy with one important feature - their disdain for debt. On average, filipinos don't like debts and thus household credit card debt is not a concern. Filipinos save up and then buy. So, what you see as "poor" people in many malls, some of them had save money to buy laptops, etc.

Seeing a uniquely modern spot in a poor community elicits a feeling of excitement for those who believes in its inhabitants. It's like you seen an addicted friend who all of a sudden looks neat and is logical in all he says. They couldn't fake their fresh look that quick and easy. It's a feeling of exhilaration for those people. It's the opposite or disregard and indifference from those who have not lived the subsistence level of life. Everything modern comes as a shock, but positive approach would whisper : "Nothing is permanent under the sun." There wouldn't be A STAIN of Corruption from the builders of a modernity that cost hundreds of millions if not billions (BGC doesn't stop there), or it wouldn't have look on par with the world's richest cities, while a corrupt builder or management is not after the welfare of the people and would not care if they see nothing but average or obsolete. His projects wont show a luxurious character. The developing countries would be better off if managed by private entities, meaning, no bureaucracy and levels of management and therefore, free of corruption.

More than half of Americans and a quarter of Filipinos are like this or been like this. To the others that finally realized why are now much more happier. Genuinely happier. Quality over quantity. I'll share my .02. If you enjoy living in a city or are drawn to city life, then BGC is an excellent option anywhere in the world. Personally, I'm not too fond of cities, but I use the Philippines as my hub for Eastern and Southeastern Asia. I usually arrive at the NAIA in the evening and leave in the evening, so it's a quick Grab ride to BGC or Makati at these hours. That's why I keep places in Metro Manila, including an Airbnb unit in Uptown, which is very close to the trike station where you were eating. However, I prefer Makati, and the Uptown unit is only for short term rental and friends/family. Whenever I travel to the Philippines or Southeast Asia, I like to take a break and stay for a couple of days in Manila, especially at the beginning and sometimes at the end of my trip. It's much better than taking long flights of over 17 hours. Is BGC an accurate representation of the Philippines? Why not, there are upscale high-rise communities popping up all over Manila, and there are lower-rise communities being built by the same land companies on many islands. However, walking around Binondo or other areas of old Manila is quite different from roaming around BGC. Can you experience the "real Manila" while living in BGC? Of course you can, simply walk down the path, cross the pedestrian overpasses, or catch a quick Grab ride over the Pasig River. Once you're done experiencing "authentic Manila," head back to BGC. Personally, I prefer Makati because it's more accessible to "rustic Manila" via foot. And for those who say don't buy a condo in the Philippines, just rent an AirBnB, or lease, I AGREE 100%. I need to keep my BGC unit rented. ;)

the appeal of BGC isn't all the malls. It's the outdoor walkable city. If you spend all your time in the mall, then you're doing it wrong. Walk around outside around High Street and Forbestown and see all the people OUTSIDE enjoying life. That's the appeal of BGC. You can find malls all over the Philippines. BGC is different

Regarding the malls - think about the future about how societies and civilizations will be. Malls are like a preview of how the super cities will be. When the Sun will be too overbearing, how will the population adapt and survive? Cities will be be superstructures that contain everything needed. Malls in the Philippines is a preview of this. It's a microcosm. While places in the US are shutting down the malls and everything is now done online, the dynamics changes the way the population moves. People are likely to stay home etc. But what happens when the area they live can't handle the surrounding anymore? What will happen to those towns in the suburbs? The people will move closer to the structures and perhaps the government will even start housing them inside. So perhaps this is something that Philippines will be leading in when the whole world is waay to hot.

Ok. Thanks for your honesty... I will remit. That one of those answers is truly correct it's just not explained well enough... Not being able to afford to travel to the ocean or beach or river is a struggle for so many. Even in America, low income poverty areas and people often don't know how to swim, simply because they have never been able to afford to go.. so that part is in many ways, completely accurate. 🤔 And the waters near major metropolitan cities are very poisoned in every country. But yes perhaps you're right. I will discuss this topic in much better detail soon on a podcast. If you can, help me ensure that I represent your culture and people properly so I do not offend. Thank you Legend. 😊

You were interviewing those Chinese looking guys who seem to not know the Philippines. Dirty water to swim in? The Philippines is known worldwide for beautiful beaches with clear blue water. They say BGC is just a bubble. To me, is sounds like the Filipinos don't deserve to have that kind of environment. Actually BGC has already exploding into so many CBDs, not only in Metro Manila, but also in other parts of the country. It is not easy to erase the poor parts of the Philippines, coming from a really poor country. What is important is the Philipppines is developing into a higher middle class country.

BGC is a bubble. City water is dirty and toxic and is not swimmable. They’re not saying we need to erase poor neighborhoods they’re saying that these places exist and BGC becomes a bubble within the slums. It’s reality and Noel was talking about reality. It’s called being socioeconomically aware of the reality of a country you visit as a foreigner and that’s what Noel’s telling HIS friend who happens to vlog. Your hate comment is so beautiful because it raises the engagement so thank you for being so hateful and butt hurt. ❤

Manila waterways, Pasig river, Manila bay, are too dirty to swim in. That’s not meant to insult you, just a fact. Provinces are beautiful. I’m sorry to disappoint you with my opinions, it’s just my understanding from my experience. I could be wrong and wish it weren’t true-for Manila and BGC specifically not the entire Philippines. We have “bubbles” and beaches and I love that about the Philippines, not a negative thing, just my personal observation as a local. And I also believe we Filipinos deserve better from our leaders, that’s where my frustrations were coming from. I’m sorry if I didn’t express that more clearly. I agree that it’s important to look at the positive that the Philippines is developing. There are many things to look forward to for the Philippines. Thank you for your comment.

Hey Legend... Once again you prove how close you are paying attention and how awesome of a supporter and friend you have been! I can honestly admit i am happy someone is paying attention so well! This whole social media thing is NOT easy, especially doing it all alone. So i will be 100% honest with you... I have obviously been taking it slow these past 2 months and i've been allowing little bits here and there of why... The answers are simple and all will be explained in time. Being a public figure is not easy and trying to maintain the balance of real life VS online presence is very tough some times.. Our family went through some extremely painful times and then Alyssa and I parted ways for a while. We took the best option and kept it quiet for as long as we could in order to give everyone the time and respect they need to adjust. Alyssa is doing well and so am I. All is well in both worlds and wounds have healed. and I PROMISE to explain it all in the next few episodes! The New episodes are all here and coming out starting next week. I fully understand your emotions and reasoning and I respect it. Thank you for always being in our corner. Things happen and life is humbling with each new challenge that arises. I will do everything i can to push further and continue the Legends Ethos and Dream.

lol since your questions about Filipinos not knowing how to swim i wonder what your data points are and how accurate is it? Lets look at the similar questions with America 🤣🤣 Considering that they speak and do everything in English, why do they get confused with Their, There, They're? IF America is all about Freedom, why are there so many of them Incarcerated 🤣🤣 I could keep going for ever lol but yeah. If Filipinos are so good at singing why do i hear some that suck lol. So yeah, it would be good to understand the numbers. What percentage of people up in Baguio could swim?
@millenniallegends
@millenniallegends Месяц назад
Hilarious question there my friend. My data points are only based on my personal experience. That's the entire point of my vlog. Yes, obviously, in many of my vlogs I'm at the beach swimming with TONS of locals. The island babies in the Visayas Islands are absolutely great swimmers. But, there are so many I have met that are 💯 terrified of the water. I even sat down with a community of families living in payags on the beach and most could not swim. It goes back to a much deeper conversation and I'll touch on it again soon. As far as Americans and English...haha 😅🤣 that depends on the state and region. I minored in English Literature in college so I have zero respect for those of English decent who cannot speak properly. Haha 😄 But online slang text has truly taken over anyway. Prisons... interesting one... Prisons are all for profit. 📈 📈 that's why we have so many. Laws are enforced in many areas especially in the south USA. Also, for many struggling poor Americans, prison gives them a home, 3 hot meals, free health care, and an education. It is incentives to commit crime for many. Imagine if the laws here in the Philippines were truly enforced... I've seen children driving vehicles at night, no lights, so helmets, underaged drinking everywhere. Ive even seen murder for hire for 100usd twice just in Panglao.. robbery in broad daylight, gambling on every corner. Prostitution in every city... Most of which is ignored completely.. I wonder what would happen if the laws here were actually Enforced? 🤔 Haha 😄 keep the debate happy and enjoyable legend. 😉

@@Joepoe20041 now let’s see if living in an archipelago = swimming inhabitants. Let’s look at nations around the world that are surrounded by water. We should probably filter out locations where the water is cold and focus on areas where the water temp is similar to land temp. Philippines, Indonesia, Maldives, Fiji, Bahamas, Seychelles. Would the other countries other than Philippines have a higher percentage of the populations that can swim? Or would we be having the same factors of why there are people in in countries surrounded by water have populations that can’t swim 🧐🥸🧜🏽‍♀️
