Two and a half weeks into 2% BHA and nothing... Maybe a few pimples purged but that's it, no chance in comedones. I'm so sick of the bumps on my cheeks...
I'm so sorry I can imagine the frustration! In some cases BHA can be too mild. It might be a good idea to speak to a professional who can help understand if a chemical like tretinoin might be what you need, or if they're a different type of cyst or something like that which can be physically removed by a derm. I really hope that the BHA just works its magic for you since it can take a month for your skin to acclimate.
@@CassandraMac I actually incorporated The Ordinary retinol 0.2% and stopped using any other actives and my skin is purging now but it's so so much better texturally already and it's been only a week (used it only twice so far)! I wake up with really good looking skin now!

I was under the impression that exfoliation need not be practiced daily. But just to be sure, I looked up the product on CosRx’s official website and this was one of the tips listed: “Begin with using the product once a week, and after the skin has adapted to it, increase the usage up to 2 to 3 times a week.” So I do wonder, do you think daily use of the product may have contributed more to your purging?
@@teehee8130 I do! I'm personally a "rip the bandaid off" type, knowing there were closed comedones needing to be addressed, so I went in. Generally, the biggest contraindication with this product is irritation, so I made sure I backed off if that was happening, but forged on full force as much as i could for maximum effect, so that I wasn't purging past 12 weeks. :) Anyone looking to address underlying issues quickly should go in beyond the conservative recommendation and those who just want to add BHA casually can follow CosRx's recommendation. ^.^

how did you know that you were purging as opposed to just breaking out? i currently started using BHA and i can’t tell if im purging or if my skin just doesn’t like it 😔
Purging will take place anywhere you have underlying issues, while the reactive break out will happen anywhere on the face. I am also experiencing hormonal acne. I've been using this product since august and I also noticed great result with my acne. But I'm still having trouble with dark spots on my chin and jaw area. Any recommendation on what to use with this?
The ordinary's niacinamide + zinc has been helpful for me and healing any spots left from purging. AHAs are good for resurfacing the skin (which helps with the tone of former breakout spots too) and I've seen (but haven't yet tried) dart patches with actives you apply overnight. I'm not sure what actives are in the patches. Congrats on your progress, thats so satisfying!
@@psithurismique Hi! I actually started the niacinamide before I ever started BHA, probably by 1-2 months, so my skin was used to it. I also never purged from it to begin with but I've heard that some people have. A couple things to keep in mind are that purging is a process of removing build up so once your purging is over, there should be nothing left to purge, therefore you should be okay. Another thing to note is I'd wait until you're at least 6 weeks into using BHA before introducing it, if not waiting until the purge is over. When the purge is over, you can reduce the use of BHA and the new ingredient won't overwhelm your face. :)

I have acne for almost 11 years. And i didn't care from teenage. My bad. Now i am so depressed. I have oily skin.lots of zits and lots of acne scars. May i use cosrx sylicylic acid facewash (white red bottle one) and cosrx bha liquid powder ? Is it good for me. Please suggest Nb: i use only moisturizer. And don't use toner serum or anything. I just want to use only facewash and bha liquid powder.
I'm not sure that its necessary to use more than 1 product with the active ingredient. Its the type of thing you want to be able to use very intentionally. Maybe try just one or the other to start! Personally I like the Power Liquid because I know exactly how much I'm using and I don't have to worry about my cleanser being harsh on my skin. That's how I feel! Everyone's experiences will be a little different but just go slow, gently, and methodically. Good luck!

Yeah! Just be mindful of how your skin is feeling and keep moisture a priority. The ordinary has a hyaluronic acid serum, so low priced and amazing that might work if you find your skin is at all drying out.

Hi! Personally I apply it after washing and toning. I leave it on for 15 mins when I can and then finish the other products in my routine. :) When I was purging I used the product a lot, but tapered use after the purging was over to 1-3 times a week. Good luck with it!

So a couple things I'm aware of. Skin tends to produce more oil for dehydrated skin as a defence against further moisture loss. I know that BHA helped smooth out the look of my skin / pores. If you have build up in the pores, BHA can help stimulate the clearing of said build up, allowing for a fresher complexion that might be more easily hydrated. Granted, your skin might purge and you'll need to get through that. The hint here with your skin is that its 'over producing' oil and that might lend to moisture barrier depletion, especially if you're using harsh cleansers or scrubbing to remove the oil on your face. Be gentle with your skin and treat it with tender love and care *cue sexy music*. Try BHA but be conservative with its use, following box instructions, and also prioritize healing your moisture profile with a humectant like hyaluronic acid & periodically spritzing your face with water throughout the day. Thats a really basic answer based on the little info I have with you but hopefully that helps point you in the right direction. :)
Its good to do some research and consulting when looking for a product that's going to be the best for your skin! I think its a good rule of thumb to figure out your goals. If you want a really deep exfoliation, BHA or stronger actives like retinol will help in the long term. If you want to exfoliate the surface, try AHAs first. If you can, visit someone who can look at your skin and give you some more tailored advice. I understand the struggle and wish you the best of luck with finding what works for you.

So there's a big difference with SA in serums vs cleansers. The cleanser sits on your face a few moments and then is washed away. Its often diluted too. The serums sit on your face for 15 minutes or all day depending on the sensitivity of your skin and its hydration levels. Much stronger! I can't say that the cleanser wouldn't cause purging in someone who hasnt used deep exfoliants but its not likely.

Did you use it twice a day? Girl no wonder you purged. Please, anyone who is introducing an active, be slow and steady. This is great if you use it properly, so be careful in how you use it and how you introduce it to your routine.
You're right about introducing slowly, although, i knew those CCs were not going to move unless I used it more often. Those areas didn't come out of no where, they were there for years. The process worked and my skin is now very happy, no more closed comedones. I have a post-purge video if you're curious about the methodology. The box isn't always right, but most people should just follow those instructions.
I have deep blackheads and i used it once a week for two weeks ( i.e in total 2 times i have used it) but i am not experiencing any purging. Is the product not working for me??
Its too soon to tell. You can gradually start using it more frequently as your skin gets used to the product. Not everyone will purge but most do, at least a bit. But 2x use will not necessarily be enough to start purging yet!

Yeah, depending on the toner! Some active ingredients don't mix, like BHA + retinol or BHA + benzoyl peroxide. Avoid those. If your toner is hydrating then thats great to apply just before your BHA. :)
Hi! It really depends on your skin situation. I'll let you know the brand reco's and what i did. Brand recommends acclimating your face when you begin the product: 1. Pump the essence onto a cotton pad and gently cleanse the face avoiding the lip and eye area. 2. It is recommended to use 2-3 times a week and gradually increase the use according to the condition of the skin. I did that, and knew my skin was going to p u r g e so I eventually ended up using it every day EXCEPT for when my skin was feeling dry or at the onset of irritation. I applied it at least once daily otherwise UNTIL my purging ended. At that point, I gave it the back seat to be used much less, anywhere from 1-3 x weekly, instead prioritizing the healing of my scars, hyperpigmentation and moisture barrier. *shameless plug* Part 4 of this series is pinned in the comments and addresses my post-purge strategy in further detail. :)
Yeah it does! I wish I included some info on this. Definitely apply at night during the summer or make sure you have a good SPF / other protection like a hat / visor / scarf.
@@evaaatb3301 Yeah it does unfortunately :( It doesnt increase photosensitivity in the same way some plant extracts do, but by exfoliating the skin, your baby soft layer is more exposed to the sun, requiring protection.
Hello dear! I have whiteheads on some areas over my face and pores on my cheek looks visible with dirt( sebaceous filament), after extraction it looks smaller again. But this problem appears frequently. Is this product will help me out? I have combination skin type. I didn’t use any korean products before.

@@rojaislam6687 Ah gotcha! So what I'd say is try this product out. Depending on the sensitivity of your skin to active ingredients, this may be good for you. Since its a step removed from pure BHA, its a mild product which means you're likely to purge for a longer period of time. Make sure you have non-comedogenic moisturizer and make moisture barrier protection your main priority. Don't add any other new active ingredients; a lot of times, oily skin is caused by dry skin. 🤯 I know. My personal approach during purging was to use the product as frequently as i could without letting my skin get dry or irritated. Once purging was over, I switched to 2-3x per week application. Thats not what the box says but it helped me get through the purging process faster. If your skin is prone to dryness and irritation, perhaps follow the box instructions. Also if you can, get an extraction facial where they can address most of the comedones physically. It will make your life much easier. If you can't its okay, just be prepared to wait longer for the storm to pass. After 12 weeks, you might still be purging but it shouldnt be as bad as it was in the earlier weeks. If it is, this product is definitely too mild. Good luck!
And also, I don’t know if i actually have close comedones. Because the bumps in my forehead is red and sometimes big. And I’m currently using a gentle cleanser. And that’s the only thing i use. I am not sure if i have a hormonal,close comedones or comedogenic acne. But can i still use this if i have one of those?
@@sophialucas2833 Hi! Its sounds like you have something between closed comedones and comedogenic acne, which are truly progressions of one another. This product will help but it will be slower and more gentle than paula's choice's product. If your skin is sensitive, this is good for you. Your skin will purge aka get worse before it gets better so buckle up, whichever product you decide on! PC's will probably make the purging process a little faster is all. Take all the advice in the guide and apply it to your approach when beginning BHA. Having some kind of toner or hydrating serum (non-comedogenic, check your moisturizer too) will be good for you and keep your skin from getting irritated and dry. Moisturizer is a minimum! Serum/ toner good too. Lmk of you have any other questions. ^.^
@@sophialucas2833 Your skin will need some moisturizing of some kind, most likely! By all means, try it out, just stay aware of your skin's moisture level and take breaks if you dry out. Get a simple non-comedogenic moisturizer if you can. There might be diy hydration options too (not oils, those go over moisture/ hydration) but I'm not too sure what you would need in that regard.
