Chapter 2 verses 54 - 72 Description of a person of steady knowledge
śrībhagavānuvāca |
prajahāti yadā kāmānsarvānpārtha manogatān |
ātmanyevātmanā tuṣṭa: sthitaprajñastadocyate || 55||
du:kheṣvanudvignamanā: sukheṣu vigataspṛha: |
vītarāgabhayakrodha: sthitadhīrmunirucyate || 56||
ya: sarvatrānabhisnehastattatprāpya śubhāśubham |
nābhinandati na dveṣṭi tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā || 57||
yadā saṃharate cāyaṃ kūrmo'ṅgānīva sarvaśa: |
indriyāṇīndriyārthebhyastasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā || 58||
viṣayā vinivartante nirāhārasya dehina: |
rasavarjaṃ raso'pyasya paraṃ dṛṣṭvā nivartate || 59||
yatato hyapi kaunteya puruṣasya vipaścita: |
indriyāṇi pramāthīni haranti prasabhaṃ mana: || 60||
tāni sarvāṇi saṃyamya yukta āsīta matpara: |
vaśe hi yasyendriyāṇi tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā || 61||
dhyāyato viṣayānpuṃsa: saṅgasteṣūpajāyate |
saṅgātsañjāyate kāma: kāmātkrodho'bhijāyate || 62||
krodhādbhavati sammoha: sammohātsmṛtivibhrama: |
smṛtibhraṃśād buddhināśo buddhināśātpraṇaśyati || 63||
rāgadveṣaviyuktaistu viṣayānindriyaiścaran |
ātmavaśyairvidheyātmā prasādamadhigacchati || 64||
prasāde sarvadu:khānāṃ hānirasyopajāyate |
prasannacetaso hyāśu buddhi: paryavatiṣṭhate || 65||
nāsti buddhirayuktasya na cāyuktasya bhāvanā |
na cābhāvayata: śāntiraśāntasya kuta: sukham || 66||
indriyāṇāṃ hi caratāṃ yanmano'nuvidhīyate |
tadasya harati prajñāṃ vāyurnāvamivāmbhasi || 67||
tasmādyasya mahābāho nigṛhītāni sarvaśa: |
indriyāṇīndriyārthebhyastasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā || 68||
yā niśā sarvabhūtānāṃ tasyāṃ jāgarti saṃyamī |
yasyāṃ jāgrati bhūtāni sā niśā paśyato mune: || 69||
āpūryamāṇamacalapratiṣṭhaṃ
samudramāpa: praviśanti yadvat |
tadvatkāmā yaṃ praviśanti sarve
sa śāntimāpnoti na kāmakāmī || 70||
vihāya kāmānya: sarvānpumāṃścarati ni:spṛha: |
nirmamo nirahaṅkāra: sa śāntimadhigacchati || 71||

I am born as a christian. But i hv great regard for hinduism. I hv studied other religions extenscively and nothing had enlightened me as much as hinduism and the power of chanting mantras which ofcourse is in sanscrit. Hinduism for me is the greatest science of finding the divine. Unfortunately todays govnt has reduced it to a political agenda and just a religion in India by making some hindus hate and divide from others making them feel insecure. But real hinduism is that of love, acceptance, inclusion, non violence and of freedom. Asatoma sadh gamaya... om shanti... ❤️

Hᴜꜱᴛʟᴇ Lᴏʏ well i understand that cause thats what i understood from studying religions as part of my spiritual searching and i empathise with you if that had hurt your personal feelings. But if you as a hindu also is trying hard to prove above that the other religions are wrong and you are right. Now whats the difference between you and them. In a true hinduism each person has immense freedom to follow one of millions of hindu dieties, multiple at once or none at all. Cause the hinduism taught by sree shankaracharya taught is in his own words a act of acceptance and not just tolerance. Tolerance is when you say to some one, hey you are wrong by i allow you willfully indulge in your wrong doing. But acceptance is saying, what you believe is of truth and mine is another version of the same truth. There is no one way to find the truth but everyone can find their own truth in their own way. Its inside each person and everyone has to find it on his own. Hinduism which was taught by Sree Shankaracharya is of acceptance and not tolerance in his own words. So if you are trying to prove that christians and muslims are wrong then there is no difference and what you believe is not the real hinduism in my opinion.

Ur right , it's a sad state of affairs .it's easy to point fingers but if one looks into the reason for Hindus being forced to look out for political parties who have right wing ideology all the rest of the four fingers point at the pseudo secular forces which have intimidated Hindus for so many years .

Krishna replied, it's not about you or you're family, it's about Dharma and history ,make sure you set the right example for our future generations . @unixmonk I am glad to read your post. 'To each his own' - if the path you chose gives peace to your soul, then let it guide you. Since you mentioned 'Abrahamic ',do note there had been/ is certain sects within India that raise 'A deity' above all, in fact various hymns praise 'the deity' that is being sung upon above all, however some individuals/sects take it to the hilt and introduce hatred to 'others' . So I hope the path you chosen still enhances your compassion to other ways. Often seeker gets into doubt whether the path is the right one, for that ,Sri Ramana Maharishi said ( I paraphrase) - As a seeker do not worry about the progress, you just do the task, your progress is the business of the enlightened your Guru , although as a tip he said 'you can consider the reduction in negative thoughts as a marker for the progress'

@Franz Berger My friend, do not be bitter. Listen to the song, consider the words... they are words of intelligence, not of speculation or theory... but of Knowledge, Gnosis. Please... We can argue all day long, if God exists or not, and we can even change opinion in our mind. But as the verses of the song say, we will not find tranquillity of mind nor we will attain knowledge on the object of our subject. Maybe we will attain knowledge on the different opinions of the subject, that means theories, but not facts, not direct knowledge of the object. So either we believe that there is a God, or believe that there isn't one, that are not facts, but belief, and even speculation. We cannot know God with our senses, nor with our mind, because this human devices of perception are very limited. Instead we need to use the higher perception that it is dormant inside the human being which is, the Consciousness (the Buddhi). But someone does not start from God, but from awakening the latent possibilities of the human being, which will lead to know that we are something more than matter, than flesh. The person that seeks, and believes in goodness, soon or later will receive fragments of light, so he can walk the path to realization and the Divine. It does not matter how the religions describe it. It matters that we do something with ourselves and we do not stay in plain theories.

X M I agree with the first part of your response. I have also heard almost everyone on the street greeting the other- familiar or not- with a ram ram! Jai Sri Ram sounds like a violent assertion. I understand Ram has nothing to do with this. But it is way too mired in the political atmosphere. Does not appeal to me. @@logicalindian9227 There is no caste system in Hinduism. We have the varna, any teacher is Brahmin, a warrior is a kshatriya, similarly workers are sudhras and merchants are vaishyas. Valmiki was a sudhra, but when he gained eternal knowledge by chanting Ram, he became a Brahmin and composed the Ramayana

Gita is the ultimate self-help book anyone needs. And it was composed around 4,000 years ago. If you step into a therapist's room today, 4000 years later all they do is to make you look at reality in an objective way without being emotional. That's exactly what Gita teaches. I don't know of any composition that's literally true and relevant after so many years, not in metaphorical or allegorical sense but as close to literal as one can get! That's the power of meditation and stoicism!

Thank you for this beautiful piece. I was struck by the line that says: "What is night to all beings, therein the self-controlled is awake. Where all beings are awake, that is the night of the sage who sees." This line really touched me. The idea I had was that even through hardship the sage may remain awake and see his unchanging nature hidden behind phenomena and experience; while during the day, where all beings are awake, when all is chasing desires, the sage sees the pain as a consequence of pleasure, he sees the emptiness of this pursuit, especially in relation to the formless and unchanging nature of brahman and our own consciousness. It hit me because lately I feel I have been withdrawing from life to a certain extent, not the cosmos per se or the fate of nature and all that, but from desiring a typical career, desiring sexual relationships, or desiring wealth, fame, that sort of thing. I mainly desire inner peace and I feel that by gradually withdrawing from material desires this inner piece is growing; I start to crave all of it less intensely the less I entertain these desires. I feel alone in this quest sometimes but I now realize that this fear is ungrounded, that I can be detached but still connected, and that my path is valid. Thanks again for this beautiful rendition of this bhagavad gita verse. It touched me immensely.

When I was studying Sanskrit I loved everything about the language EXCEPT the pronunciation. After listening to your videos I realize why: You pronounce it as it should be, while my teachers did not! Your Sanskrit sound like balm to my ears, while their Sanskrit sounded like chewing sand. Thank you for clarifying how this wonderful language should sound! I shall go back and fix my pronunciation and diction according to yours.

So, we know that he was a man, also we know that he walked on this land because our texts speak of a city called Dwarka (more like kingdom ), and scientists just got hold of Dwarka, which is submerged in the sea.

Read bhagwan Geeta ,it is said that it is not compulsory to worship God using idol and any other materials.There are many ways to worship God .In Hinduism in ancient times there were many types of people.Some used to worship using idol,some used to worship by meditating and many other methods.Arjuna asked Lord Krishna what do you think we should do?Lord Krishna said you can worship me by anyway I hear to everyone who prays to me with pure heart and soul.Worshipping idol is only a way and there are many ways.I am not against idol worship.People try to find me in the idol and show love to me.I accept them too.The mantra(worshipping songs) are of such frequencies that relaxes your mind and helps to be in the path of truth and face difficulties of your life.You want to know what is God and why do bad things happen even though God exists ,this question was too asked by Arjuna to Lord Krishna and Lord Krishna answered this too.You can find it in Bhagwat Geeta

There are many saints in ancient times who reached to the stage where they got many powers by Lord for them.By meditating and prayer they reached to the stage in which they could control their each cell by their brain ,they were able to float in the air by their highly councious mind ,they got many powers which a common man could not have.And if you want scientific proof there are many archaeological proof.The bridge (Ram Setu) which was built between India and Sri Lanka has got evident proof by scientist that it was made hundred thousand years ago but was broken .Lord Rama Broke the Setu(bridge) while coming back.And if you want to know why there are temples and idols.Then the answer is that it is made for common people for ease to pray to God because meditating for years by staying with nature is not an easy thing and cannot be done by common person.And scientist have got the proof of soul but they relate it as the energy which is stored inside the tube of the brain.They have found that the energy comes out when we die.And we know energy can neither be created nor be destroyed.The energy is soul which comes out when we die

He spoke these words of wisdom 5000 years ago and in this scripture he mentions speaking it long before that. He mentioned factors like Sun, moon planetry systems, universes, orbits, stars, time, etc All this while the world view few hundred years ago or more was that the earth is a flat table. who can know this besides the creator.So the question is not does Krishna exist but rather do you or i as we know it exist ?
