Thanks! Now, perhaps, we need to hear these noble words a few dozen times. The whole world should hear them. Thank you for your care in teaching them in a way that reaches our hearts and minds. Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu!

‣ Dependent Arising ( _Paṭicca samuppāda;_ counterpart to selflessness) - 0:15   ‣ "One who sees Dep. Arising sees the dhamma; one who sees the dhamma sees Dep. Arising." - 2:21   ‣ Discovery of Dep. Arising = enlightenment - 3:00   ‣ Very difficult to teach - 3:54   ‣ Essence of Buddha's teaching - 6:13 ‣ Two aspects to teaching (abstract/structural principle & application of principle) - 6:30   ‣ 1. Principle: law of conditionality; most fundamental law; underlying every process/event: beginningless & endless - 6:56     ‣ Ancient formula: "When there is this, that comes to be. With the arising of this, that arises. When there is not this, that does not come to be. With the ceasing of this, that ceases." - 8:16     ‣ Always operative; actual reality; unvariable, unalterable. - 11:08     ‣ Not the same as western causality ("cause & effect") - 11:59     ‣ Not a speculative theory; central to aim of dhamma (cessation of suffering, end to samsara) - 16:12     ‣ _Samsara:_ no beginning; distinct causal structure: sustained/in motion by precise conditions - 17:15       ‣ Twelve factors (spokes of existence) - 17:58         ‣ Ignorance         ‣ Volitional forms         -         ‣ Consciousness         ‣ Mentality & materiality         ‣ Six sense faculties         ‣ Contact         ‣ Feeling         ‣ Craving         ‣ Clinging         ‣ Existence         -         ‣ Birth         ‣ Aging & death

. . . . . . ‣ These factors have an order of arising (i.e., volitional forms arise from ignorance; consciousness arises from volitional forms, and so on) - 20:04       ‣ Individually discussed - 23:54         ‣ *Consciousness* (life is stream of experience) - 24:09           ‣ Present is result of past (ignorance>volitions) - 25:34         ‣ *Ignorance* (not knowing/seeing 4 Noble Truths) - 26:27           ‣ Most fundamental but not 1st cause; has conditions too. Not left behind in the past - 29:14         ‣ *Volitional forms* ( _sankhara,_ karma; wholesome/unwholesome) - 30:31         ‣ *Consciousness* (re-linking, rebirth) - 35:12         ‣ *Mentality & materiality* (four of five aggregates) - 40:07         ‣ *Six sense faculties* (eye, ear, nose, tongue & body, and mind) - 43:39         ‣ *Contact* (consciousness + sense faculty; six kinds) - 45:54         ‣ *Feeling* (six kinds; pleasant, painful, indifferent) - 48:26         ‣ *Craving* (important: links past>present) - 50:23           ‣ Mindfulness (wisdom) can stop samsara here; the pattern of feeling > craving > clinging (past > present > future) - 52:59         ‣ *Clinging* (intensification of craving; 4 types: sense, views, rules & ego as self) - 55:12         ‣ *Existence* (accumulation of karmas, volitional forms) - 58:20         ‣ *Birth* (future manifestation of 5 aggregates) - 59:28         ‣ *Aging & death* - 1:00:30

. . . . . . ‣ Additional considerations - 1:01:11         ‣ Three links (past, present, future) - 1:01:22         ‣ Twelve factors arranged in 4 groups with 20 modes - 1:02:20           ‣ Past causal: ignorance, volitional form, craving, clinging & existence - 1:02:30           ‣ Present effects: consciousness, mentality/materiality, sense faculties, contact & feeling - 1:03:59           ‣ Present causal: craving, clinging, ignorance, existence, volitional forms - 1:04:25           ‣ Future effects: consciousness, mentality/materiality, sense faculties, contact & feeling - 1:05:17         ‣ Twelve factors subdivided into 3 phases of the round - 1:06:32           ‣ Defilements, actions/karma, results     ‣ One task: a way to bring samsara to an end; stop ignorance - 1:08:36   ‣ 2. Practical implications - 1:13:11     ‣ Most important factor: the link between feeling & craving (origin of suffering) - 1:13:21
