David, Gyuri, and I discuss the issues they argue for in their back and forth commentaries about the importance of neuroscience and psychology, or implementation-level and computational-level, to advance our understanding of brains and minds - and the names we give to the things we study. Gyuri believes it’s time we use what we know and discover about brain mechanisms to better describe the psychological concepts we refer to as explanations for minds; David believes the psychological concepts are constantly being refined and are just as valid as objects of study to understand minds. They both agree these are important and enjoyable topics to debate.

Because of this episode I work in neuroscience lab on the similar topic. Thank you

You should interview Noam Chomsky and Randy Gallistel.

Brain Inspired No, not necessarily. But they will both speak to the minority view that we need psychology and cognitive science to lead neuroscience (a stronger position that Poeppel takes here) and will further dispel notions of privileged categories of evidence (which Poeppel raises) and detail the history of such views in physics and philosophy. Gallistel is pound for pound the best darn cognitive scientist out there today so having him on would be very informative especially on the issues covered in this talk. Chomsky is an intellectual giant of the past several centuries and he can put these questions in a broad historical context unlike anyone though getting him on will be very difficult given he is often booked years in advance.

@@robreinhart4284 I don't think the "psych/cog sci needs to lead" is a minority view at all (except perhaps among neuroscientists). Gallistel has been on my list for a long time (I'm a fan), and indeed I plan to reach out to him. Chomsky is kind of everywhere already so I'm less interested. Thanks for the suggestions!

The idea that psychology established a lot of brain concepts, like attention and consciousness, instead of the neuroscience, I think is a important factor in the problem of consciousness.
