I have never biased power tubes in an amp before this. It is not difficult so long as you heed the warnings and take your time. You can die if you do this incorrectly so learn how to do it properly before you begin...

I've had a 6505mh for about a year now and have been looking at possibly replacing my tubes which brings me to biasing the head, which brought me to your extremely informative video. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it extremely helpful. Thank you for taking the time to put together the video as you went through the process on your own head. Sharing your knowledge and experience with different tubes and manufacturers. It is much appreciated. Cheers from the U.S.!

Excellent video! I purchased this amp on a whim about a month ago used for $300. I find myself using it more and more. It’s a lot more versatile than I thought. I play mostly classic rock and the tones I can pull out of it are amazing. It is really refreshing to finally find someone that doesn’t just play death metal. Excellent job mate! Cheers!👍🤘

I think it's safer for your meter and maybe your amp also to have the meter already set before you plug the tube into it and connect it to the amp and power it up. Also I think it's best not to turn the meter's dial until you have powered off the amp and removed the meter etc. And I believe there are only three companies making guitar amp tubes. JJ (Slovak Republic), Shuguang (China) and New Sensor (Russia). New Sensor makes Sovtek, Genalex Gold Lion, Electro-Harmonix, Svetlana, Mullard,and Tung-Sol.

Hey is there any bias “check points” inside the head if I don’t have the tube socket thing? I only have a 6L6 one from Eurotubes 🤘🏽

@@cryptoisaac Well, there will be but I don't know them! I do know them on my Blackstar 100 so that is the method I am using today. Google it buddy: you might get lucky! Victor...

99% of your gain is coming from the preamp tubes so unless you are gunning the amp amp at high volume running the power amp tubes cold will do nothing. Cold running power amp tubes will just allow you more headroom at high volumes. These amps by their very nature are fizzy amps, preamp rolling can help a little but an EQ in the return will work wonders for taming fuizz.

I just didn't want them running hot. Should be 21mA but were biaased at 30mA. I would like the tubes to last as long as possible. I know jack-all about this stuff man: just trying to get it set right for me :)

Great video, very informative. My 6505mh has a low frequency hum after it warms up (around15 mins use), any idea what the problem could be?

Question: have you ever gotten a guitar in that couldn't be intonated no matter how forward or back you put the saddles on the tune-o-matic bridge? I bought a Firefly recently and it won't intonate. Everything is flat. I put the saddles all the way forward and it's still slightly flat. Plus, the G-string intonates somewhat close - yet, every note on the fretboard is flat! All Firefly will give me for a repair is $50usd + $22 for a bridge to reimburse me for I bought for it to replace the stock one. Sounds like the bridge is in the wrong place because the nut is flush against the first fret.

If you got one like mine, how did you repair it - if you did?
@FretFriendGWaL
@FretFriendGWaL 3 года назад
Yes I've had a couple that won't intonate. Changing the string gauge can help but, by rights, it should intonate with any string gauge...

@@FretFriendGWaL I checked with repair shops - both local and online. The repair estimates (relocating the bridge, changing the nut) were around $250usd (It also needs a fret level - which will add to it). I only paid $210 for the guitar (with shipping). I started the PayPal process of getting a refund. Hopefully this all ends well.

Only way to fix it is to move the bridge to the correct place...

Heyy I have that amp and after some time is doing some kind of pulse. I rise the reverb knob and it start to do a strange noise. Not sure if that has something to do with the bias or with the heat sensors. Have you had that issue before? Thanks
@FretFriendGWaL
@FretFriendGWaL 2 года назад
Hi... No, I have never had that issue! I have had no negative issues. Maybe you should get someone to look at it? Victor...

What? You can see what I am doing! I'm the novice here: watch the video and accept it for what it is. Maybe you can tell me?

Tube amps use a rectifier, which means it converts AC into useable DC. So set your meter to DC when biasing.
