+Austin Roberts actually he blew it right off the bat with the first one. See my comment above, in the video page...to see....regarding Matthew 9 and Mark 5, and original Greek, and also possible elaboration. Which is NOT the same as dogmatic or technical "contradiction". But seriously, find my comment on the page, and read through it. Interesting stuff. Regards......
@robertmagdaleno8832

+sweetscholar not trying to debate here, but you keep saying that the original Greek texts don't say that etc. if you actually did some research on this guy then you would know that he took a Greek course in college and became fluent in it just to read the Greek texts and is one of the leading experts on the New Testament.
@sweetmuzix
@sweetmuzix 8 лет назад
robert magdaleno it doesn't matter if he took a Greek course, because whatever "course" he took, he's not understanding or accepting the linguistic situation IN THIS CASE. Your logical fallacy of appeal to authority here is very amusing though. An old habit of people who try to shift attention away from the matter and DODGE the points and merits and specifics of the argument...which is what you just did, as you notice that you did not actually address the actual statements I made in my other comment in the other part of the page (which you probably never even saw or searched for), regarding how the Greek is in Matthew 9 could easily be translated as "my daughter is just now dying". The Greek expression being "arti eteleutesn". "Arti" (just now) and "eteleutesn" (dying). Sometimes these nuances are lost in English translations, which the drone in the video doesn't consider, take into account, or even understand (and won't admit). Another plausible explanation (within the scope of possibility that atheists can't grasp) is that Jairus could have uttered BOTH statements. Mark and Luke mentioning her severe sickness to the point of dying, and Matthew reporting Jairus at one point, not being sure yet, that her daughter was near dying, and minutes later thinking, because of knowing just how bad it was, she probably died already, "she just died". Again, elaboration is not contradiction, necessarily. Because there are two very plausible and possible explanations, one being the original Greek could be rendered "she's dying right now" etc, and the other being that Jairus may have said both things minutes apart, because of being distraught and perplexed and down-hearted, etc, as people do in real life, it can't be dogmatically said to be an out-and-out "contradiction" per se. Since a true no-doubt "contradiction" would have to be where NO possible explanation can happen. Like for instance, Matthew 9 saying "she died 5 days ago" and Mark saying "she's alive but really sick", happening on the same day. LOL.... You notice that you don't see that anywhere. As THAT would be a REAL "contradiction" or "discrepancy". Because there would be NO way out of that one with any real explanation, if the conversation happened on the same day. She could not have been "dead 5 days" already, and still be alive but really sick on the same day. But something like that is NOT there in Matthew 9 and Mark 5. Instead what you see can be explained logically easily. It becomes apparent that Atheists and Agnostics and Skeptics WANT there to be "contradictions" in the Bible, because it fits their agendas better. But no supposed claimed "contradiction" actually technically violates the law of non-contradiction, and that's actually been admitted.

+sweetscholar where's your PhD? where's your book? where's your paper proving his existence? this is a well respected EXPERT in his field. no need to get defensive over your holy book's mistakes. either you're right or I am...and it doesn't look too good for you. read your goddamn book. you're probably one of those Christians born and raised in the bible and know nothing outside of it...but your butthole puckers up when someone mocks your beliefs/life guide WITH FACTS. you want to believe in a god that soo many brilliant people of the past have tried to prove exists...and have failed at that exercise. I'm an atheist and chances are that I know your book better than you.
@sweetmuzix
@sweetmuzix 8 лет назад
robert magdaleno ??? You can't be this insane....with your CONTINUING with the pathetic and corny LOGICAL FALLACIES of _APPEAL TO AUTHORITY_...while ignoring and evading the actual specifics, and not even caring about the points, or even attempting to address anything of substance. Do you know how stupid and drone-ish you sound when you come off with the failed arrogant lines of "errgghhh where's your PhD? Where's your paper" blah blah, while STILL IGNORING AND DODGING the specifics in the argument, which is all that counts. Try doing that and understanding that. Read a book on logic. Or maybe go to Wikipedia and look up "logical fallacies", because you keep committing them like an idiot. Even when it was already pointed out to you. *Argumentum ad verecundium.* Argument from authority....a discredited and dangerous habit, and what's called in logic a "poor man's argument". (Also, Bobby, there are scholars and linguists who are on my side on this, and have said the very same things, regarding the original Greek in this matter. So? LOOK THEM UP...if you're so hung up on "credentials"...and not caring much about the actual specific arguments and points.)

@JDUBB31B 5 лет назад
Because while he was purported to be "of god" he was still credited with his earthly father's ancestry and genealogy. This was done to fulfill the prophecy which said that the messiah would be born of the house of David which is fulfilled through his "father" Joseph. That is why there are all of the contortions and logical and historical gymnastics by the gospels authors to have Jesus born in Bethlehem while also being from Nazareth. This is where the census story comes from.
@grasshopper801
@grasshopper801 5 лет назад
Because for Jesus to be considered the proper heir of David, he had to have both legal and biological lineage going back to David. Mary provides biological lineage, but as a woman does not provide legal lineage, which Joseph provides.

Lamin Jalloh Scientific proofs of Quran that Quran is from God. Allah and prophet muhammad (PBUH) is the messanger of God . Previously human beings think that the world is flat . In 1577 it was first time proved by (sir francis Drake ) proved that the earth is spherical . The Quran mentioned it 1400 years ago in ; (surah naazi,yaat) chp 79 verse 30. That we have made the earth sphere shape. Big Bang theory. In 1970 48 years ago a group of scientists who described that how universe came into existence for which they got the noble prize .they called it as a Big Bang and these scientists sayed that initially our universe was one (primly nabola) .and there was secondly separation there was a Big Bang which gave rise to galaxies and stars and the sun as well on the earth on which we live. This they called as a Big Bang. This what the scientists discovered 48 years back and it was mentioned in Quran 1400 years ago. (surah Al Ambiya; chapter 21 verse 30.) Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe? Previously scientists and people thought that the light of the moon has its own recently we know that the light of the moon is reflected and borrowed light. The Holy Quran says in ( surah; Al Furqaan chapter 25 Verse 61)Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed there in a [burning] lamp and luminous moon. ‘’Burning lamp means sun.’’ So the Quran describes the Moon light as boorowed or reflected light. So Quran say it 1400 years ago. Recently when we study science we study that sun is a stationary and not revlove its on axis and all planets revolve around the sun . And now in the end of 19 century we know that the sun also rotate on its on axises. The Holy Quran mentioned in. (surah Al Ambiya) chapter 21 verse 33) And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; each one is travelling in its own orbits with its own motion. So it says that the sun besides Revolving also rotate about its own axis it was mentioned 1400 years ago in Quran and science come to know early in 21 century and it was know studing that sun takes 25 days to complete one rotation. There was one a scientist who sayed its not a great thing Arabs were advanced in the field of Astronomy. So for reminding him that Arabs became advance after Quran was revealed. So from the Quran Arab learned about astronomy not vice versa. - [ ]

If there's the slightest "inconsistency" does that instantly discredit the entire work? The Disciples weren't taking notes as they went, they recounted these events years after Christ's death and Resurrection. Does that make the entire story a conspiracy or a lie or false? I'd definitely hesitate to claim it does...I dont know, just something to think about.

Game - yes, there is nothing more stubborn than brainwashing. And over the centuries various snake-oil salesmen have developed pathetic excuses for all proofs of bible absurdities, the insanity of belief in a celestial imaginary friend and the justification of religious warfare. The ultimate refuge is that god cannot be understood and works in mysterious ways, or even that he false-flags errors and contradictions to baffle everyone and stimulate argument. They have laughable answers for everything, and very few will accept logical, scientific and normal reasoning.

GameChanger Fitness Scientific proofs of Quran that Quran is from God. - [ ]

Some people find apparant contradictions in the Bible and seek the answer based on faith that there is one (even if you don't understand it in the moment), others find apparant contradictions in the Bible and accept it as a flaw and therefore a reason to reject the Bible as the Word of God. You can guess which of these two are born again believers. 1 Corinthians 2:14 - But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Ehrman - 1:17 "It could not be both, it has to be one or the other or neither". example: 1+2=3 vs 1+2=4. Both answers cannot be correct, but one of them has to be correct (1+2=3). Ehrman - 2:10 "matthew and mark cannot both be right about the occasion of jairus's daughter" The first statement indicates that one of them is giving the correct detail, but then ehrman throws both altogether in his second statement. Notice that both statements of ehrman cannot be correct, it has to be one or the other. I will take his first statement as the correct one, because he has no proof on his second statement that both matthew and mark were wrong about the jairus account.

Yep I have come to the same conclusion myself over the last 5 years. We can't minimize God to a book. The Bible is full of man's opinions and traditions of who God is. I believe God still uses the Bible and other books and means to communicate with us. God is so much bigger than just a book. This understanding has brought me even closer to God because I don't have to base my relationship with Him on someone else's opinion.

Again, therein lies the problem. For the entire history of Christianity, the bible was preached to be an inerrant, perfect, historically accurate pinnacle of understanding, spirituality, and morality. As we have evolved, this has proven to not be the case and now we get baseless, milk toast assertions like the one you just gave. How do you know anything you just said is true? For every person who agrees with you, there are dozens of OTHER CHRISTIANS who would disagree and say that the bible is indeed still inerrant. If you are both "in communication" with god, then he is lying to one of you. How do you get to determine which one that is and what of the non-christian theists who are just as convinced and just as "close to god" as you say you are? How do you get to decide which parts of the bible "god" chooses to communicate with? As religion has been proven wrong and had to surrender the ground it once held, the space for its adherents to operate in has gotten smaller and smaller which is evidenced by your statement.

worldofhippos In the genealogy, Heli is listed as the father of Joseph, who had 2 daughters. The first is Mary, and the other was Zebedee’s unnamed wife (Matthew 27:56; John 19:25). When there were no sons to preserve the inheritance in accordance with the Law of Moses (Numbers 27:1-11; Numbers 36:1-12), the husband would become the son upon marriage to keep up the family name. Therefore, Joseph, when he married Mary, became the son of Heli according to the Law of Moses and could legally be included in the genealogy.

15:53 Sir, with due respect and admiration, I beseech thee to look into the origins of these tales. It was Baulus / Paulus, a Converted Jew, who concocted the whole Saga. There is no evidence in regard to the existence of Jesus of the New Testament, none whatsoever, nor of Virgin Birth, Crucifixion, Resurrection, Ascent or Descent. However, Dead Sea Scrolls do record a 'The Righteous One', leader of an Ascetic Jewish Sect: Essenes, who lived and died a normal death. European Christianity is the Brainchild of Emperor Constantine, who, also, made Jesus son of God: The Creed, in the Conference of Nicaea in 326 AD. There were more than a thousand Bishops in the Christendom. Only 80 responded. Even the 2 Bishops (Cairo and Ethiopia) walked out. The real problem with Bible Bashing Miscreants (I confess to coin the term), is that they never read anything by themselves. They believe what is spewed from Pulpit. How many Jews have ever read the Bible in Hebrew, Christians, the New Testament, in Greek and Muslims, the Qura'n, in Arabic? Yet, each BBM is candidly and utterly convinced of their Beliefs to be TRUE. All I can is: You are casting pearls to swines.

Some scholars, theologians, and even some teachers of the Christians faith speculated that the strong similarities among the Synoptic Gospels are the results of one gospel drawing its text from another. So did Matthew, Mark, and Luke copy each other’s gospel? Though it may be agreeable that strong parallelisms and similarities among the Synoptic Gospels can be attributed to literary interdependence, to say that Matthew, Mark, and Luke copied each other’s gospel is just a hypothesis. This hypothesis is not only unproven, it also confuses believers, weakens Christians faith, and undermines the Word of the Lord. Fortunately, there are other sources of information which provide Christians with strong evidence showing that Synoptic Gospels are completely independent from one another. One of those information sources is the biography of well known people such as George Washington. The exact number of books written about him is not readily available, but there must be more than ten. These books were neither written by the same author, nor they were published at the same time. In these books, one can find same and similar facts as well as events and stories that were presented by some authors, but omitted by others. Similarities, parallelisms, and differences in these books, however, did not mean one author copied the others, neither did they make the works of some authors wrong nor others right. Another example are events that happened from time to time. We know that two or more reporters can report the same event, but this does not in any way mean one report is a copy from the others. In addition, when many reporters reported the same event, their narrations were often different, and different reporters can put different emphases on different aspects of the event. The June 2015 church shooting in Charleston, SC was an example. Many reporters reported this event. Their narrations, however, were not the same. Some described it as hate crime, others pointed out weaknesses in our gun law or praised the victims’ survivors for their forgiveness toward the killer. These narrations, different as they were, did not discredit the validity of the story, but helped to bring about a more complete picture of the incident. In the same way, similarities or strong parallelism among the Synoptic Gospels did not mean one Evangelist copied the others. Likewise neither of their different narrations invalidated what had happened; instead, they helped to fully describe the event. One such event is the miracle which Jesus brought Jairus’ daughter back to life. When the Synoptic Gospels are treated as three separate Gospels, one could see that Jairus’s daughter was dying according to Luke, was at the point of death according to Mark, and was dead according to Matthew. These disparities can easily prompt readers to wonder whether or not the miracle happened, or to conclude that one Gospel drew its text from the other. But if one read these three different accounts as descriptions of one single event; they would help to bring about a more complete picture of this miracle as follow: (See Lk 8:41-42) When Jairus’ daughter was dying, he came, fell at Jesus’ feet for the first time, but without giving Jesus a reason, he begged Jesus to come to his house. Knowing well of what he will do Jesus went with him. But to put Jairus’ faith and persistence to the test, Jesus did not hurry. In the meantime, the condition of Jairus’ daughter became worse, so Jairus came forward, fell at Jesus’ feet the second time. This time with a clear reason, he pleaded earnestly with Jesus, saying Mk. 5:23, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Please, come and lay your hands on her so that she may be made well and live." Intended to put Jairus’ faith and persistence to the test still; Jesus moved on, continued to teach. Along the way, he even stopped to talk to a woman who suffered from hemorrhages for twelve years. By this time, Jairus’ daughter was dead according to Lk. 8:49, “While he was still speaking, someone from the synagogue officials’ house arrived and said: “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.” but Jesus told Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” Jairus’ faith and persistence did grow stronger so, though his daughter was dead, he fell at Jesus’ feet for the third time, saying, Mt 9:18, "My daughter has just died; but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live." Jesus continued on, Mat 9: 23-26, “(23) And when Jesus came to Jairus’ house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd making a tumult, (24) he said, "Depart; for the girl is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him. (25) But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. (26) And the report of this went through all that district.” This is my understanding of this story, my rendition of the differences among the Synoptic Gospels concerning this miracle. I believe that Matthew, Mark, and Luke were guided by the Holy Spirit into writing the same things. And so I defend my faith!

the same old problem of sloppily confusing ELABORATION with "contradiction". And not understanding the original Greek, which sometimes gets a bit lost and confused in English translations. I'll say right off the bat that Matthew 9 _does not_ actually "contradict" Mark 5. At least not in the original Greek. This is what this goofball does, typically, and claim "discrepancy". Mark 5 and Matthew 9 don't actually contradict each other, but some will think that because of FLAWED ASSUMPTIONS, and not understanding that filling in details that others leave out is not necessarily "contradiction" or "discrepancy". It shows a lack of real understanding of Greek and Hebrew idioms too. Matthew 9 could easily be translated as "my daughter is just now dying". The Greek "arti eteleutesn". But no supposed claimed "contradiction" actually technically violates the law of non-contradiction, and that's actually been admitted.

who provoked David to take a census of israel? lets see 2 different accounts and see if they line up.. And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. 2 And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. 3 And Joab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel? 4 Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem. 5 And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword. 6 But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab. 7 And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. 8 And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. 1 Chronicles 21:1-8 And again the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. 2 For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people. 3 And Joab said unto the king, Now the Lord thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing? 4 Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel. 5 And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer: 6 Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtimhodshi; and they came to Danjaan, and about to Zidon, 7 And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beersheba. 8 So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. 9 And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. 10 And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the Lord, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O Lord, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. 2 Samuel 24:1-10 please explain this.. how is it Satan did it in one verse and God did it in another...same David..same census...same israel... no contradiction right? So when you accuse others of an agenda and needing contradictions to suit that agenda..well it almost sounds cool but you are actually full of shit saying there are no contradictions...so who is being dishonest...? please explain these passages Mr. Scholar man

Pablo Honey you are sooooooooooooo cute!!!! Thank you for taking the time to paste those verses, and to give your thoughts. But I gotta be frank and blunt now. You're doing the same exact thing here that I mentioned in my first comment, of typically confusing elaboration with "contradiction". An old fail of Atheists and Muslims. If you have an honest sincere question about those two verses, that's one thing....however it's obvious that it's NOT sincere, but arrogant and accusatory, without being open-minded, honest, fair, or reasonable. But that's an old one, Pablito. 1 Chronicles 21.1 versus 2 Samuel 24.1...and it (again) shows (sighs) that people such as you DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT ELABORATION is...or added details, and expounding, or nuances. And automatically stupidly hastily ASSUME out-right "contradiction". And yes, because of failed agendas...of WANTING the Bible to have "mistakes" or "contradictions" in it...because such a notion fits your anti-Bible corny paradigms and wishes better. So you get desperate in QUOTE-MINING the Bible, idiotically and sloppily, and assume that every difference or variation has to be an out-and-out "contradiction". Despite the real facts. Instead of just an EXPANSION of details, and nuance. In 2 Samuel 24:1, God incited David to number Israel because God was angry with David. Ultimately, God wanted to teach David not to trust in His number of fighting men but to trust in Him. So, He moved to let David count the fighting men of Israel. He used Satan to do it which is why in 1 Chronicles 21:1, it says that Satan moved David to count the men. Both are true. But in different senses. So? God simply allowed Satan to incite David. The Hebrews often used active verbs to express “not the doing of the thing, but the permission of the thing which the agent is said to do”. (See _Bullinger_, 2898, p. 823, emp. in orig.) All this stuff has been discussed and addressed a thousand times over already, and is easily checkable. The fact is that throughout the Bible, God’s _allowance_ of something to take place often is described by the sacred writers as having been done by the Lord Himself. In the broad sense of God's permitting will. But, how can God allow Satan to do a job, and yet God is not responsible for the sin? It's not that hard for people who understand that the Jehovah of Scripture is supreme sovereign. God's authority extends even over Satan. God can use Satan (or "resisters" in general, whether actually the spirit being Satan himself, or human opposers etc) to accomplish God's ultimate will...His permissive will...by simply giving permission to Satan (or wicked humans) to do that which Satan already desires to do anyway. For a broader purpose. For reasons. God could have easily prevented Satan from inciting David to do that thing, but God ALLOWED Satan to incite David...(ever thought of that) for testing and to show important facts. The Jehovah of Scripture is sovereign, and can do and allow anything, for certain reasons. Another example is what we see in the crucifixion of Christ Jesus where wicked arrogant opposing men brought Jesus to death. Yet, at the same time, it was the predetermined plan of God that this be done. God allowed the Devil and the Jewish Pharisees and pagan Romans to do all that horror to His Son. For REASONS... Look at this inspired prayer to Jehovah the Father in the Book of Acts below: _"For truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, _*_to do whatever your hand and your purpose predestined to occur._*_"_ Acts 4.27-28, NASB, ESV. Also, we see in the Book of Job that God allowed Satan to test Job and demonstrate Job's character. Job 1.8-13. We see in John 13.25-27 that the Devil entered into Judas to betray Jesus, but it was the plan of God that Jesus be betrayed as Acts 4.27-28 above tells us. The Almighty allows the wicked one to work his evil, yet that word is ultimately used for the glory of God. Either for condemnation or blessing and judgment. All this is done without God sinning, and it demonstrates God's absolute sovereignty over all creation. Elaboration in accounts is not necessarily out-right "contradiction", nor does it technically violate the law of non-contradiction. As has even been admitted.

+sweetscholar I am a believer in Jesus in God's sovereignty over creation. So you assuming anyone having issues is atheist and out to attack the bible is invalid.I see what you are doing and it's nothing new. These are OUTRIGHT CONTRADICTIONS the way they are written. The writers should have elaborated better..But hey atleast God appointed scholars like you to come and get defensive and belittle anyone questioning scripture while cleaning up the mess of uneducated sloppy writers with your apologetics and hermeneutics of an inerrant bible...*clap clap*You added things that the original text NEVER says in order to make it not contradict...Of course God allows satan to do things that is a given to any believer...I know satan is only capable of doing what God allows..And that is why a lot of people get confused and blame God. Mainly because verses like this distort God's character to the highest extreme.. Can you think of a better way to distort God's character than alternate His name with satan's ? ummm...not really. So are you a valiant defender of the eternal conscious torment in a fiery inferno doctrine as well? and I suppose you have cleared up all those contradictory verses also? So can you now conveniently add to "The wages of sin is death" and make it really harmonize to mean "The wages of sin is death /eternal roasting in a fiery inferno with an immortal soul that doesn't die?" please do show me while u are at it any verse in the bible that says we are born with an immortal soul...just one... Truth is we were NEVER immortal yet pastors always stand at the pulpit saying "You will spend eternity somewhere..(because your soul never dies) it's up to you to decide heaven or hell... please pull out your fancy hermeneutical tricks and distort the original text to make it align with your doctrine.. WHILE YOU ARE AT IT PLEASE TELL ME WHICH VERSION OF SCRIPTURE IS "INFALLIBLE AND INERRANT" or is it ALL versions? are you a kjv only guy?

Pablo Honey you're NOT a "believer in Jesus" because Jesus did not doubt God's written Word the you keep doing, just LIKE a typical Atheist (or Muslim), and keep stubbornly stupidly saying "contradiction" when I went into a WHOLE THING on how the example you brought up is NOT actually a " contradiction" and explained (in detail) just how it isn't, but simply an elaboration, and how in Hebrew usage, many times things were spoken of as someone actually "doing" something, by merely allowing it. For some oddball reason, you can't accept that fact, and take correction on that point. Why not exactly? By the way, funny you bring up "immortal soul" as I DO NOT believe what most churches WRONGLY paganly teach, that the human soul is inherently immortal, but that when a person is dead he's dead, and the ONLY hope out of death and the grave is a future resurrection. Through Christ's Blood and Kingdom. The concept of an automatic inherent "immortal soul" was as an Egyptian, Babylonian, and Grecian concept. The early Jews and early Christians did NOT really teach that. But taught strictly simply a "resurrection". A future coming back, by God's power and the Messiah, etc. NOT a combination "immortal soul" with "resurrection of the body" mish-mosh, of Roman Catholic distortions. But simply only a resurrection of the WHOLE person, with a NEW "body" (either a spiritual or a physical body, in the General Resurrection, on the "New Earth"). Not fully understood of course, but the basic outline is there. Some people go to heaven, by resurrection, and some people come back to Paradise Eden Restored on the "New Earth"...where there'll be "no more pain, sorrow, and no more death"...and "all things new" and _"wherein dwelleth righteousness."_) But the point is that the soul dies, and is in the grave (the state and place of death), and the unconscious dead await a resurrection, by the Lord's Reign and Ransom. The "Second Adam". That's GOOD NEWS, man. But the soul that sinneth, it shall die. The soul is mortal. And its only hope is ONLY a resurrection. NOT a pagan "immortal soul". I favor the doctrine on that of Adventists and Jehovah's witnesses, (though many call those two groups "sects" or "cults" or whatever, they're actually closer to the Bible on that.) Not all professed Christians believe what the Roman Catholic or Lutheran or Presbyterian or Baptist or Methodist or Greek Orthodox churches WRONGLY un-Biblically teach and spread. Side point. And no, KJV Onlyism is a heresy...and very cultic. And very illogical, non-historical, and counter-factual. All versions have their worth, but it's only the ORIGINAL GREEK AND HEBREW that are ultimate authority. Not any translation. Though some are better than others. But the original language manuscripts are the final appeal. Just to make that clear factual point. But as far as who incited the "census" by David. Did you even read my whole comment all the way though? Carefully? I took the time FOR YOU (and maybe others) to carefully and sincerely and earnestly, and instead of appreciating it, you're dissing, ignoring, ducking, and schmucking about it. What's up, Pablo? God allows things for certain reasons. And I gave you other examples of that, with Job, and with Jesus the Son of God, Himself. Job 1-3, and Acts 4, etc. So the point (again), man, is that 1 Chronicles 21 and 2 Samuel 24 do NOT actually technically necessarily out-right "contradict" each other, per se. Because it's very within the scope of possibility and logic the explanation I gave you. ELABORATION AND EXPOUNDING ARE NOT NECESSARILY DEFINITIVE "CONTRADICTIONS". Again, were you aware that in the Hebrew idioms, it's oftentimes said that someone "does" something that he actually allows someone ELSE to do, but for an overall purpose? And with the Sovereign God, that's especially so. Because Satan is the "ruler of this world" Christ said, but God the Father ALLOWS Satan to do certain things (temporarily) for sovereign reasons. But won't allow it forever. Read Revelation 21. Regards........

+sweetscholar I apologize and admit that my original comment was a little defensive and slightly rude.I assumed things I shouldn't have until I thoroughly read what you were saying. I have been debating with a lot of Christian friends that say "the bible is the word of God" and hold up an NIV, or KJV or NKJV NLT etc etc..I see contradictions(maybe some only APPARENT contradictions) all throughout these versions and I am genuinely trying to be honest and hope that they are NOT in fact contradictions..I will admit that some are not but there are many I haven't cleared up..I am not a scholar and I don't want to be personally.I do want the truth and that is why when I started to notice problems with translations I was still hopeful.I was not going to be dishonest and attempt to dismiss the bible as rubbish as some do once they find some apparent contradictions.. I do agree that Jesus did not doubt "God's written word"..But that is the Torah as it was in His day. At the same time it is my understanding now that Jesus is The word of God..NOT today's bible. I do believe the bible testifies of Jesus Christ. But I do not think you can put the bible on the same level with Jesus..That is one of my major issues that I see many pastors do today. Almost all of them. I find it interesting that this doctrine of eternal torment didn't come about until a few verses from Jesus were mistranslated.( that is my belief as of now from what I have studied) Apostle Paul in all his epistles didn't ever teach of this eternal hellfire with an immortal soul either..I think it is a horrible poisonous doctrine that actually twists God's character and that is precisely what satan wants and thrives on.. Anyways thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my previous comments.. The bible did not make me believe and accept Jesus just for the record. I called out to Him in my own darkness and wickedness and He gave me peace and the demons left.This was my experience seperate from the bible.This was no altar call. It was Jesus.Period. So that is what makes me believe. I also am not someone who thinks that you can say a sinners prayer and then bammm! donr deal..That is why I had MAJOR issues with some of Paul's writings also. That is a whole nother issue though. If I just wanted a free ticket to keep sinning I would have zero issues with a sinners prayer saving me..I would not have issues with Paul saying confess believe and be saved..Yet Jesus saying "those who DO the will of my father" are the ones who are saved.. Let me end by saying this: I do not have to believe in any inerrant bible in order to be saved or have Jesus as Lord of my life. there is nothing that says anything remotely close to that in Jesus words. I will continue to seek truth. Oh and Bart Ehrman is not my hero. I think He is an example of someone who NEVER knew Jesus or even had a serious encounter with Jesus or He would not just quit believing because of issues in the bible. He does have a few valid points but is also not thorough in many other points..

According to Genesis 11: 26, “After Terah had lived 70 years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.”, which means that Terah was 70 years old when Abraham was born. According to Genesis 11: 32, “Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran”, which means that Abraham was 135 years old when Terah died. According to Acts 7: 4, “So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Harran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.”, which means that Abraham left Harran after Terah died when Abraham was 135 years old. However, according to Genesis 12: 4, “So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he set out from Harran.” The question is, did Abraham set out from Harran when he was 75 or 135 years old?

Matthew 26:39-40 "And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.' And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, 'So, could you not watch with me one hour?'" So Jesus's disciples were sleeping when he prayed these words. How does the author of Matthew know what Jesus prayed in private? Would Jesus have recounted his prayers to a sleepy Peter right before being arrested? Why go off to be alone if you just come back and tell everyone your personal interaction with yourself.

Simply put... how many angels were really at the tomb when Mary went there? Matthew said one, Luke and John said two... who is correct? Harmonize the verses if you can but explain it to us. Let us not ignore each other's arguments and be quick to present a bold assertion seasoned with our pre-conceived notions. All who say the Bible is flawed let the Christians explain the "contradictions" and give them a listening ear.

I am excited about the progression of humans, cognitively, and the collateral effects that this cognitive progression has caused to the concept of religion being realized as what it really is, "mythology". This cognitive progression has in it, the unavoidable consequences of defining religion for what it really is, for seeing through the "thinly veiled" facade of a "supernatural entity" that created the universe, humanity and controls our future.......etc. In the next 50 to 100 years I foresee further development in this progression to the extent of and for, the betterment of humanity, finally the end of the world's belief in systems of religion replaced by, and wait for this.............."reality"! A fantastic future is in store when this process is completed.

I personally hold the mythicist position and don't even think that Jesus was a real person. However, when it comes to the discrepancies in the Jesus genealogies, my sister told me that one of them traces through Joseph Jesus' father and the other traces through Mary his mother, and that the Joseph mentioned in that genealogy is supposedly Mary's father, mistranslated as husband. For one thing, if you count the Joseph mentioned in that genealogy as Jesus' father, the number of generations the story gives doesn't come out right, but if you count that Joseph as her father, it does. Still, it is a contradictory book, and when people try to tell me it's the infallible record of the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the universe, my response tends to be "Yeah, right! In your dreams!"

With all the respect due Prof. Ehrman, all the contradictions he points out only affirms the fact that the events recounted actually happened but told from different perspectives not that they never happened. The same is true about differing accounts about Jesus - establishes the fact that Jesus was a historical figure
@markvsblack1910
@markvsblack1910 7 лет назад
I've seen this argument before and I think there's a couple of issues when applying it to the Gospels. First, if the Gospel writers were not eyewitnesses but were instead relying on oral traditions and/or earlier writings then their perspective on the events is highly limited to someone else's. The writer of Luke even indicates he was not an eye witness himself and that the information was delivered/handed down to him. If this is indeed the case then discrepancies between the Gospels would only affirm a lack of historical reliability rather than that the events having actually occurred. Secondly, while there is enough reason to believe that Jesus actually existed that doesn't make all the events in the Gospels automatically true. Anything in the realm of the supernatural would be doubted by historians, for example: someone resurrecting three days after being literally dead. Discrepancies between the gospels accounts about the resurrection events don't make it seem anymore logically possible than if they had perfectly agreed.

@JDUBB31B

Because it has to! Do you not get the point of the prophecies? Jesus had to be born "of the house of David" meaning he had to be born in Bethlehem. This is the reason for the shameless shoehorning constructed by the census story which took Jesus, allegedly a Nazarean, and had him born in Bethlehem ie "The House of David."This census, or tax as the video describes it, never happened which is another way that we know the story is fictional. The messiah had to have been born of this line and genealogy flows through the father. The video, and the bible for that matter, are crystal clear on this.

So let’s look at ALL 3 accounts and not just 2 accounts... I wonder why he would purposely leave the Gospel of Luke out of the equation? Matthew 9:18 ~ While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she SHALL live. Mark 5:23 ~ And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she SHALL live. Luke 8:42 - For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him. If you examine the verses properly, you will actually notice that they are not 100% identical to each other. These are 3 eye witness accounts but the details differ based on their expression of what took place - If they were exactly identical to each other, people would say it was one person writing and try to debunk the Bible for that reason. It’s clearly not a contradiction if the fundamental basis for this healing is the same. The difference in description doesn’t mean there is a contradiction at all... in the modern world some doctors refer to their patient in a coma as already dead and others describe their patient as dying - Is this a contradiction based on different descriptions? Men try to find contradictions in the Bible, because the Bible contradicts their ways of living.

Any slightest mistake in a book central to a religion is incredibly damning. The bible is supposed to be God's word and if gods word is fallible then god is fallible. But god is supposed to be infallible so that would mean that if there is a god the bible cant be used to explain what god is like. Thus the religion falls apart.

I'm in a unique position to be a Christian yet appreciate the scholarship of his hardwork & analysis, sometimes I agree but not all times. It's the theology of Christ 4 me, salvation by grace (unmerited favour) through faith only, that is significant to me because of the explanation of the law which requires faith because all men break that law, to me that is amazing truth because if you consider the 10 commandments and its sweeping legal wisdom, you must concur all men have indeed broken that law, and therefore shall no works of the law be justified, God MUST require faith in Christ only to fulfil that law because that law requires faith and only faith. It's theological truths are mind blowing despite the inconsistency, the gospel of salvation by grace through faith alone prevailed. Sadly most Christians today don't think critically, for example I don't trust the book of revelation at all, so I'm considered a heretic lol it's funny yet sad
