You have just made my day. I'm a beginner at Bible Journaling and boy have I made a mess on a couple of pages. I'm so thankful I found you. It was such a blessing for me to understand there is a better way to journal without ruining your pages. Also I LOVE the way you do your word studies. That is an excellent idea. Thanks for sharing your faith and talent. I'm excited to try again.

The extent of my Bible "art journaling" has been underlining, highlighting, and the occasional in-the-margin sermon outline or sentence diagram. Your art work is very well done. This whole concept is fascinating. I hope it causes many of God's people to spend more time meditating on His Word. God bless.

We will be using stencils and then making them not look like stencils, so one doesn't need to know how to draw to make beautiful Bible pages. It has a message to it for me- I am not perfect, be who I was created to be, love me, always acknowledge the creator and give him praise, honor and glory, trust him, know that his son Jesus's death on the cross was for me and those in this world to have eternal life in heaven. This is so creative! I just started looking into creative bible journaling and exploring the different types and I can honestly say I need to buy me a "creative bible" because I would often get distracted and start drawing during sermons or I would have to take notes to keep my mind engaged while at church. Often, times I would get into trouble if I'm not paying attention and I'm 20 years old lol. - Pretty sad, I know. lol. But, I'll look into getting me one because I've been wanting a new bible for sometime now. Looking through my old ones which are still somewhat new. It's too simple for me because it's a "youth's bible." I need more life related examples for me and something that will keep me engaged. This definitely helps!

Not sad at all. Doodling has been proven to help people listen better. I'd say go for it and get a journaling Bible with space to draw, doodle and write as the Spirit leads. Blessings to you as you step out into more inspired creativity.

+Rose McGuinn: By Deli paper do you mean "waxed paper"?
@rosemcguinn5301
@rosemcguinn5301 8 лет назад
Nancy Ruth Glad you've asked! This is a new subject for me, one that's fun! Deli paper is a form of waxed paper, but it is not as waxy as regular waxed paper. It's used mostly in delicatessens for the wrapping of sandwiches and such like in the States. It comes in oddly cut, squarish single sheets, all folded up neatly in fitted boxes with dispensing lids or facial tissue box-style openings for easy access. One side of each sheet generally has more wax to it than the other. The less waxy side takes Gelli printing using acrylic paint quite well. These sheets are semi transparent, and may be collaged. The frugal crafter, Lindsay Weirich at RU-vid has a tutorial about how to make one's own gel style monoprint block. (frugalcrafter at RU-vid to find her.) The thinness of each Deli paper sheet means that more layers may be used inside of tightly fitting places such as within books. They are also less delicate than regular tissue paper (wrapping style tissue) and so hold up to gluing a bit better. Shel C at RU-vid also has recently added a brilliant new octopus collage to her video roster. In that video, she shows one of the ways of using Deli Paper in collage making. I've seen some people make their own washi tape using Deli Paper and Score tape. I myself have recently experimented with stamping on some sheets. That's over at my Rose's Art Garden blog. Hope I haven't overwhelmed you with too much enthusiasm about the stuff! :)

Your voice "Sounds" like Ellen Burstyn! I've watched your video several times and I have ordered the Glazing Liquid. I had previously ordered the clear Gesso, as I saw in other videos, but my experience with the gesso was not so good. My Bible pages ended up all wrinkled and looked terrible. Your pages with the Glazing liquid don't look wrinkled at all. Hope that is how it will work for me! Thank you so much for doing this; It is SO Helpful...especially for us beginners! Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us, I love the glazing liquid idea and plan on using that in my Bible, I am currently using matte gel medium and Art Basics clear gesso, personally I want to work on a smooth surface (for painting and drawing), I don't want a texture, it appears that the glazing liquid doesn't create much of a texture if any at all... it looks like the perfect medium to paint and draw on.

I think you are very talented. I would urge everyone who does this to think past it being your bible. Because when we leave this earth someone else will be reading the things we put in it. Especially in a bible that looks so pretty. Most of the art work I have seen is just that, art. But some people may erroneously add"commentaries" which then is technically adding to how someone may interpret a passage. Some of us older ladies are teaching the younger generation. Weather we know it or not. 1Cor. 3:10 AMPC According to the grace (the special endowment for my task) of God bestowed on me, like a skillful architect and master builder I laid [the] foundation, and now another [man] is building upon it. But let each [man] be careful how he builds upon it, NKJ According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise masterbuilder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. BLESSING TO ALL WHO READ THIS AND WHO ADD THEIR ARTFUL COMMENTS TO THE WORD. I'M SURE GOD WILL USE YOUR BIBLES LONG AFTER WE ARE NO LONGER HERE.

I hope you still check these comments Valerie... your work is AMAZING, hands down the best I've ever seen. My question is about the paint you use on deli paper... it is so transparent... wondering what you are using? perhaps it's not even paint but markers? @valeriesjodin5194

+tascha piatt I draw very lightly on top of the glazing liquid, so I don't have trouble with the pencil erasing. I think if there is too much graphite on the surface, it may smear and turn the surface gray, but I haven't actually had that happen.

I do have some more videos about some of the process especially a Bible Journaling e-course just launched November of 2017. You can see and find out more on my website: valeriesjodin.com/e-courses/

Hi Valerie I love your ideas, I have a question about the acrylic glazing....you are using satin, is there no shine to it?? compared to the gloss one, i know in paint the satin is just a little shiny, I have tim holtz new mediums and you can move your finger and shade with pitt pens on it..and now I have just bought and tried dina wakely clear gesso which is definately thinner then Tims but has no shine and you can barely tell I put 2 coats on the page....I havent tried pitt pens on it yet,just coated the page last nite....I personally like some shine, but the golden is pricey especially the satin /

+jeanheming It sounds like you have tried some things that work well for you. That is great! I am using satin. There is not any shine on my Bible pages.

Though I have not tried it yet, I understand you can use wax to keep your pages from sticking together. Perhaps this would resolve your "cross page" issue...
@JanetRibet

You can put on Dorland Wax after finishing, then they won't stick.

your drawing are so pretty, so are so many others i can see you ladies are true artistes. how does an non artist start with drawing?
@valeriesjodin5194
@valeriesjodin5194 8 лет назад
Hi Catherine, there are many possible answers to that question. Of course there is RU-vid videos and classes. Honestly, I started as a young adult when my kids were little. I wanted to draw them. We were so strapped for money, but I asked for drawing lessons for gifts and either my husband watched the kids or I traded babysitting. Then I joined a local art group that met once a month, shared ideas and helpful critiques. Blessings as you discover your artist within...

do you know how this glazing liquid compares to clear gesso on the bible pages? also do you paint with acrylic or watercolor? your work is just beautiful!!!!
@valeriesjodin5194
@valeriesjodin5194 7 лет назад
Thank you. Yes, since this video I have also used some clear gesso Art Basics brand. It works very well. I still use glazing liquid too, which can be as a base like the gesso, but it dries slower. The glazing liquid works very well if you want to extend the flow or drying time of the acrylic paint to make a soft edge. If I had to use just one product it would be the glazing liquid, but I use both. The Art Basics clear gesso works very well. I did not like the result of Liquitex clear gesso, and am going to try Dina Wakely's clear gesso next.

I just got my clear Gesso and I applied it to 1 page. After it dried it felt rougher than I like it to be so I took my emory board and using the fine side of it I lightly went over the area I would be painting on and it smoothed it out very nicely. My question is how do you keep the page from curling up after it dries. I tried ironing it with no steam but it is still trying to curl. Love your art work...Beautiful.
@valeriesjodin5194
@valeriesjodin5194 6 лет назад
It still wants to curl even after some ironing but I found it flattens out more over time as the Bible is closed.

Your lettering is beautiful! Have you studied calligraphy? Where can you get deli paper? I love that idea.
@valeriesjodin5194
@valeriesjodin5194 8 лет назад
Thank you. I taught myself calligraphy through library books and videos. For me lettering is like drawing or doodling, so it intrigues me. If you go to the blogpost under the description, it tells about deli paper and the materials I've used etc. I bought that deli paper at our local Cash & Carry store.

I really like that Idea! I have been wanting to do this but have not been able to get the journaling bible yet and a bit nervous also to start. But I like this idea a lot! Where do I get this paper from? Would tracing paper work or is it different from that?

Do you every use clear gesso for the page prep or do you always use the acrylic glazing? What is the difference between these two page preps? Thanks. Love your painting.
@valeriesjodin5194
@valeriesjodin5194 9 лет назад
+Grace George Grace, I used the Liquitex clear gesso and didn't like it because of the gritty texture. I haven't used Dina Wakely's clear gesso, but I have seen some lovely pages done with that. I like the acrylic glazing because it nicely seals the surface of the page with a smooth finish and I can also use it with the paint as transparent glazing.

This is really helpful, thank you Valery. But wondering: which media gives least ghosting. I can take some little bleed-through, but ghosting whole areas I do hate.
@valeriesjodin5194
@valeriesjodin5194 7 лет назад
The media which gives the least ghosting is colored pencil and dry Gelatos.
@valeriesjodin5194
@valeriesjodin5194 6 лет назад
I've experimented and have found some ways to lesson the ghosting with wet media. I go over this in my online course: Bible Journaling with Stencils & More valeriesjodin.com/e-courses/
