In the Bible, the word "suffer" is used in two ways. One means suffering as in hardship or heartache or illness. The other way means to allow or permit something - like in Mark 5, verse 19, Jesus "suffered not" the Gadarene man to join them, but told him to go home to his friends and tell them what God had done for him.
