Part 2 of the Bibliology series with Dr. Clifton Morris. In this video, Dr. Clifton Morris discusses Jerome's translation of the Bible [The Latin Vulgate]. He also discusses Erasmus' translation (thereof) and its domino effect.
Dr Morris does indicate that that Erasmus' Latin translation was an 'update' and 'fresh and new', but I wish that he could have spent more time indicating just how much the Vulgate was revised. My impression has always been that there was a lot more interest in Erasmus' Greek text than there was in his Latin translation.
Dr Morris does not tell us VERY EXPLICITLY whether the parallel Latin in Erasmus' Greek New Testament is the Vulgate or whether it is an entirely new translation of the Greek into Latin by Erasmus himself. 🤔
To answer my own question: it seems that Erasmus did produce a revised version of the Vulgate, and it is known as the Novum Instrumentum Omne. Amazon lists it as 'currently unavailable'.
