Guys, make sure you grab and marathon the film trilogy of Rûronin Kenshin this weekend!! Best kenjutsu stunt fights ever. Proper use of the weapon build too. No absurdity like edge on edge block and the like. Best wire work when th blades I've seen in ages too! Those guys are top gymnasts and excellent fencers. Beyond the show and anime visuel of the fights ( which are for once true to the manga fights) the mastery of their craft and the fight artistic an d martial direction is incredible. I hope you find the 3 movies and can share them with siniore Campobello. I've only seen Adorea provide audience with such a millimetered choreo using European fencing systems.

Every action have multiple counters. This is a variation of the simple feint and thrust action, why it works? Because is different.

It makes you missed your timing. You were expecting a feint and a real direct attack, suddenly the sword suddenly spin and it will break your expectation, confused you and you got thrusted while your brain is processing the information. Of course if you got exposed to it many times or just watch an explation video you will think it's a wasted movement

Yes, the foreseeable instinctive opponent reaction is in fact to blow to the head; but fortunately, there is an effective coverage given by the "advantage of ligament" (through the theory of the 5 methods for the gripping of the center in the opposing forces). In practice, the after blow is inhibited by the position of the bicorno itself.

This whole twisting motion after the feinted stab seems too slow and any opponent who didn't completely blind themselves by overreacting to the high thrust should in theory just bring their sword down and react

Philip Bombard uhm, to be honest in my experience the feint is the only thing that stimulates the parry that expose the target so it is essential ;-)

@@FedericoMalagutti in your clips of sparring there are several times when the technique is effective without a preliminary feint, the withdrawing of the sword being the feint itself. I am a big fan of feinting, though, so I don't disagree with you.
